Dinner went off without a hitch, much to Lucius’ surprise. Once the dinner was cleared away, dessert was displayed magnificently on trays pushed by house elves, much to the ire of Hermione, who had become Ron’s wife. She murmured angrily throughout dessert, and refused to touch any of her hot fudge cake a la mode. Ron tried to get her to eat but he was rewarded with a vicious kick in the shin. Lucius watched her discomfort with amusement.

James, however, enjoyed the dessert a little TOO much. His father watched him nervously, aware that sugar did strange things to the boy. Not only did it speed him up, as it did many children, but it also seemed to give an interesting boost to his draconic and magical abilities. One time James had consumed an entire batch of brownies and discovered that he could breathe fire. The drapes had been replaced the next day. Tonight James’ eyes had an unnatural glow, and his fingers seemed to glimmer with raw magic. Draca sat on one side of James, and watched him with interest.

Once the majority of dessert had been plowed through, Lucius stood again, and the group quieted down.

“If we are almost done with dessert, we can return to the ballroom and…shall we say…cut a rug?” he said.

Draco’s mouth dropped.

“Oh Sweet Goddess…don’t let him speak slang again….especially old American slang…” he said. Bill smiled at Draco.

“It’s all right. It doesn’t matter how old or rich you are…fathers are always embarrassing.” He said. Draco nodded.

The dancing started out very unproductively. Lucius had chosen slow music, and that did nothing to rev the spirits of the vivacious clan. Fred and George decided to take matters into their own hands, and approach the old-fashioned wizard. Lucius was in the middle of slow-dancing with Narcissa, and looked slightly miffed when the two wizards tapped his shoulder.

“Hate to interrupt, Mr. Malfoy…but your party music is…” Fred started unsure what to say.

“Dead. Deader than the Dark Lord. I mean dead as in rotting slowly. Dead as-” George continued, and Lucius growled.

“Well, gentlemen. You don’t appreciate my choice of music? Perhaps you can do better.” He said. The twins grinned at each other.

“We though you’d never ask.” They said together.

“Oi! James!” Fred called, and James popped out of nowhere.

“Yes uncle?” he asked.

“Do that keyboard thing.” He said.

“Any song in particular?” James asked, and cracked his knuckles.

“Make it lively.” He replied.

James grinned, and his hands began to glow. He spread his arms wide, and a piano keyboard appeared in front of him. He waved his hands again and Lucius’ music faded. He pressed his fingers to the keyboard, letting a chord flow. Then, he let loose.

His fingers flew over the keyboard with agility and speed that impressed Lucius. A lively tune soon had the entire room dancing. Even Lucius had to admit that the tune was much catchier than his stale songs. He swept Narcissa up in his arms again and began to dance with her. But she was soon panting, and begging for a break. He pecked her on the lips gently, and let her rest. He spied Arthur and Molly dancing in the center of the room, and decided to stir things up a bit. He approached the couple, and tapped Arthur on the shoulder.

“May I be allowed to steal this lovely creature from you for a dance?” he asked. Arthur turned and looked at him.

“I…of-of course!” he said. He stepped away, and Lucius took Molly’s hand in his.

“Mr. Malfoy…I’m not a very good dancer.” Molly said softly. He chuckled.

“We all have secrets. Just follow my lead.” He said, and swept her into the rhythm of the song James was playing.

James decided he wanted to have fun himself, so he spelled the keyboard to keep playing even as he stepped away.

The sugar he had consumed was driving him up the walls. Suddenly, he had an idea. He crossed the ballroom to the nearest wall. He placed his hands on the wall, and then put his foot up. He then hoisted himself up and placed his other foot on the wall. He was climbing the wall. No one seemed to notice him, until he reached the ceiling. Narcissa screeched and pointed, and the entire room fell silent, the only noise still being the music from the keyboard.

“Get down here this instant, James!” Harry called.

James was giddy from sugar and magic. “Spider James, Spider James! Does….whatever a Spider James does!” he sang, and began to crawl across the ceiling. Ginny, in a panic, swooned and fainted. James was crawling towards the large crystal chandelier that hung in the center of the room. Lucius’ eyes widened.

“Get away from that! It’s six hundred years old!” he called. James looked down at Lucius, and stuck out his tongue. Lucius drew his wand. “Get down, you little beast!” he said, and sent a stunning charm directly at James. James quickly dodged it, and Harry turned on Lucius.

“Don’t you dare hex my son you arrogant prat!” he said. Lucius growled.

“Well then get the little half-blood off my ceiling!” he cried, and sent another stunning spell at James. James dodged again, but lost his grip on the ceiling, and started to tumble. He grabbed the large chain that held the chandelier, and the great crystal structure began to swing, causing gasps and screams from below. There was a terrible snap as the chain broke from James' weight, and the chandelier began to fall. Molly was right under the thing, and panicked. She threw her arms over her head. Lucius reacted to her predicament before he knew what he was doing. He tried to knock her as far out of the way as he could, and shielded her with his body. A fraction of the structure struck him as it hit the floor, sending razor sharp crystal shards flying and trapping him on top of Molly. James had spread his wings and caught air, keeping himself from falling with the chandelier. He watched in panic as it struck Lucius and his grandmother.

Lucius cried out in pain as the crystal slashed into the flesh of his back. He felt pinned by the weight of the metal.

“Are you okay?” he managed to choke out to the trembling witch beneath him. Molly was on her back, with the trapped wizard looking down at her. She nodded softly.

“I am because of you.” She said.

Then the room burst into action. The Weasley boys immediately levitated the broken chandelier off of the two, and gently pried them apart. Lucius was supported by the twins, and Charlie and Ron helped their mother up.

Harry looked up, shaking with rage. “James! You’re in trouble!” he cried. James burst into tears. Not for fear of his father, but for fear of what he’d almost caused. The falling chandelier would have most certainly killed his poor grandmother if it hadn’t been for Lucius. Not only had James just destroyed a six-hundred year old Malfoy possession, he had almost succeeded in killing a person. And he could definitely see the slashes in Lucius’ back. He landed, shaking with tears, and his father gave him a sound slap on the back of the head.

Draca ran to her grandfather, tears streaming down her face. He patted her head softly. Arthur approached him, his face white as a sheet.

“That was a brave thing you did, Lucius. Thank you.” He said.

“No problem.” Lucius said, and promptly passed out.
