Family Tree

“What do you mean he’s dead?” Draco demanded pulling his daughter in front of him and looking into her eyes.

“He fell over dead.”

Harry was shocked. “How do you know this Lilly?”

“Grandmother Narcissa just watched him. She said that a rat ran out of the house after it happened.”

“A rat?” Draco wondered why his mother would bring up a rat.

“Ask your grandmother if she means Peter Pettigrew,” Harry told his daughter softly.

“Daddy, she can hear you! She said that yes it was him. She also said that Flunky is still ironing his hands and screaming in the manor.”

“That must mean the Flunky new what was going on. Harry I need to get to the manor and see what is going on.”

“Not without me, you don’t!” he stated.

“Grandmother said there is no hurry, he is already gone.”

Draco shook his head. “Lilly, sometimes I think that your grandmother should keep some of her comments to herself. Is that clear mother?” he said to the room.

“She said crystal, daddy.”

“So the ghosts can hear us at all times, Lilly?” Harry asked.

Lilly nodded her head at her father. “If they are here. Sometimes they are not here and if they are not in the room then they won’t here us.”

“Is my mother in the room right now?”

“Yes.”

“Do the ghosts speak with each other?”

“Some do. Not all of them though.”

“Do your grandmothers speak to each other?”

“I think that they don’t like each other very well, daddy,” she whispered and then smiled. “They said that they can still here me when I whisper.”

“Harry as interesting as this is, I need to go to the manor!” Draco demanded.

“Dobby!” Harry shouted.

A second later a pop was heard as Dobby entered the room. “Yes, Mr. Harry Potter, sir,” he said bowing.

“Dobby I need you to stay with the children. Draco and I are going to Malfoy manor. We will return soon. Do not allow anyone entrance to this house while we are gone, regardless of whom it is. Hermione Granger and Molly Weasley are your only exceptions, is that clear?”

“Yes sir, Dobby will do as you wish sir.”

“Dobby, stop calling me sir!” Harry demanded as he and Draco apparated away.

Sirius and Lilly looked at each other. “This magic stuff is so cool!” Sirius said in awe.

Lilly nodded her head. “Do you suppose that daddy will allow me a cat? Cats keep away the loneliness, you know.”

“How come you’re lonely Lilly?”

“Not now, silly, but later.”

“You won’t be lonely. You’ll always have me!” Sirius said hugging his sister.

“Someday you will have your own family, Siri.”

“No, Lilly, you will always be my family. Even if I grow up and have a hundred kids, you will always be my family.”

“But you will have Malfoy Manor, and I will live in my own home. That is how it is meant to be.”

“No, its not! We will always live together. I will take care of you. I promised, Lilly.”

Lilly smiled at her brother. “We shall see, Siri.”

Draco ran straight for the study and found Lucius lying on the cold floor. He felt only relief, and was shocked by it. He had thought he would feel something for the man who had fathered him, even a tiny bit of regret or sadness, but he felt nothing. He walked to the far wall and gazed at the family tree. Under the Lucius A. Malfoy he saw his fathers date of birth and date of death. It was weird to see such a thing. He had spent hours reading this chart while growing up. He had researched each and every name on the tree trying to find at least one witch or wizard who wasn’t pureblood. He never could. He reached up and traced the line from his father to his name. Under his name was blank. He frowned at this. His children’s names and Harry should have been listed with his.

“Flunk!” he shouted.

A second later the house elf appeared. “I am sorry master Draco for not stopping the bad man. Flunk is a bad elf and has punished himself,” he said holding up his mangled hands.

“Oh for god’s sake, Flunky, stop ironing your hands. He is dead and that is all there is to it. You are not to punish yourself again, is that clear?” Draco demanded.

“Oh yes, sir!” he said bowing at Draco’s feet.

“Get up!” Draco said impatiently. He never could stomach the subservient attitude of the house elves. It was one thing to do his bidding, it was entirely different to constant grovel at his feet.

“What does master want Flunky to do, sir?”

“Flunky, why are my husband and children’s names missing from this tapestry?”

“Dark magic sir. Only purebloods can have their name on this tapestry.”

“So even though Sirius is my son and heir he won’t be listed here?” he asked incredulously.

“No, sir. Only purebloods can be listed. It is charmed that way sir,” he said bowing again.

Draco was furious. He looked at Harry who shrugged his shoulders and then stormed, “Then un-charm the damned thing!” he demanded.

“Flunky can’t sir. The first Malfoy put the charm there and it can’t be removed.”

Draco screamed in frustration. “Then we will remove the damned thing!” he shouted as he ripped the ancient tapestry from the wall. He stared at the shredded green fabric that was bunched at his feet. “Now replace it with a correct family tree, Flunky!”

“Draco, love, calm down. It doesn’t matter,” Harry said pulling him into his arms.

Draco felt the tears in his eyes. “Yes, it does matter. Our children will not grow up with this hate and prejudice in their own home. They are our children! My children! They are Malfoy’s by blood regardless of whether or not my hateful relatives think so! Sirius is my heir, and Lilly is equally my daughter! They will be listed on every family tree that contains the Malfoy name! I am not ashamed of them, and they will never experience the feelings of not being good enough!” he stormed pulling away from Harry.

Flunky stood back as he watched his two new masters. He had created a new family tree the same as the other only with every name that should have been on there before. He liked these new masters and new that life in the manor would be much easier.

“Flunky, can this be right?” Draco asked looking at the new family history. There were a dozen more names on the list that were not previously there.

“Yes, master, several Malfoy’s have married outside of pureblooded families. Their spouses and children were never added.

Draco snorted with laughter. “I always thought it was strange that so many Malfoy’s never married and produced children. Now I know why! Look, Harry!” he said pointing to a name several generations back. “Christa Malfoy married Herman Granger! Their only child was Daniel Granger. He married and they produced Paul Granger who married Jane Walton and they produced, Hermione Granger! I can’t believe that I am related to Granger!” he said laughing.

Harry smirked. “Now you know why she is so powerful, coming from your family. I wonder why her father and grandfather were not wizards?”

“Sometimes when a pureblood married a Muggle the family would place a spell on their offspring at birth to make them a squib. My grandfather died the year before Hermione was born, and my father must not have known she was a relative. Without the spell being cast, she would develop her magical abilities naturally if she had any.”

“And all those years you called her a filthy Mudblood. Do you feel guilty now, knowing she is your relative?”

Draco laughed. “Nope! But it makes me feel better to leave my children to her.”

“You are still a git, you know that?” Harry asked him affectionately.

“That is why you are totally and hopelessly in love with me!” he said kissing his spouse.

“That, and I like you rather large cock, buried inside of me,” Harry said wolfishly.

“Harry!”

“So what are we going to do about your father, Draco?”

“Burry him in the family vault, I guess,” he said with a shrug.

“How do you feel about his death?”

“Relief that he is gone and can’t hurt us any longer.”

Harry was quiet for a moment and then said, “Should we inform the Ministry of Magic about Peter Pettigrew?”

“No. If we do, they will want to know how we know and I don’t want Lilly exposed for being a medium. She will have a difficult life ahead of her as it is, and I don’t want her childhood ruined already. We will tell the ministry that the house elf notified me and that we found him this way. Honesty, Harry, nobody will even care. He was a nasty piece of work who somehow always escaped his punishment. His good luck finally ran out.”

“Shall we have a funeral for him?” Harry asked still trying to gage exactly what Draco was feeling.

“I think that we should just have him interred in the vault. He doesn’t need any pomp and ceremony. We could have a dinner party afterwards to celebrate me as the new Lord of the Manor,” he giggled.

“Only you would suggest a party to celebrate on the day of your fathers death!”

“He ceased being a father to me long ago, Harry. Now he is just a man who died here alone in his house. No friend and no family to mourn him. I don’t want to be him when I die. I want to be mourned by our family and friends. I want to be remembered as a great father and grandfather. I want everyone to remember that I was a fantastic and loyal friend. This is not how I want to go.”

“You are already loved, my love.” Harry said kissing him. “By the way, speaking of parties, do you feel like going to one tonight?”

Draco raised his eyebrow in his arrogant way. “Who’s?”

“It’s a Weasley birthday party, and Molly has demanded that we make an appearance.”

Draco laughed looking again towards the family tree. “Wasn’t Molly Weasley a Prewitt?”

“I think so, why?”

He pointed up to the tree where Minerva Malfoy married Percival Prewitt. “She comes by her bossiness naturally.”

A/N:
So who caught the hint? First person to guess correctly will have a character named after them! So what do you think? Shall the boys go after Peter? How about the Malfoy connections? Next chapter up is the family dinner. By the way, I won't be updating again until I receive 100 reviews. I love reviews, and I love holding already written chapters hostage! hahahahahhaha!
