Chapter 21. Break Down

“These two ladies” he said, showing a hologram of Lily and Lilith. “…are to be under your complete protection. They will be your first priority. Protect them with your life, or you will pay with it. I do not care whether I am hanging off the edge of a cliff, loosing my grip, if they are in any sort of danger, your priority will be to them. If they get hurt, Merlin help you, because I will return from the dead and haunt you till the day you die, then in the afterlife. Is that clear? A soft buzz went through the crowd gathered beneath him.

“IS THAT CLEAR?!”

A collective “Yes, My Lord” came from the Death Eaters.

“Good. You will keep tab on the both of them, let me know if anything that seems unusual happens.”

Tom sat in the throne room. The meeting had been exhausting. Why did he even try to make them understand? It had been a week since the fight with Lilith and she would still not call him back, or owl him back, or see him at all.

“Protection for a muggle?” it had chimed through his halls for hours now. The inner circle were smart enough to figure it out after Cassander told them about the incident in the park (including the fact that he had not turned into a murderous maniac and politically still stood for the same things as he had in school), and wisely held their tongues. The same could not be said for the rest.

“Dim witted pureblood fanatics” he muttered under his breath.

Not all of his most trusted had been at the party at Cassanders therefore he had held another meeting with the Inner Circle later, were he explained and answered questions. These men were the captains and had each their ‘troops’. Generally, they were Tom’s closest and most useful friends.

He had to start at the beginning; when he first met Lilith, and how he met her. Why he had been so space the last two years (the official story was a mega guilt trip, but they knew the truth because all their wives were extreme gossipers) and his sudden return to mother earth a.k.a. finding out he had a daughter, Lily.

They all agreed; family came first.

Cassander gently opened the door to Tom’s rooms when he didn’t answer his call. He didn’t think Tom would mind as Cassander had seen everything more than once before.

“Tommy?” he heard quiet rustling in the study and walked in the mahogany doors. Immediately he spotted he shivering figure in the far corner. He jogged over to the lither form of Tom and gathered him in his lap.

“Shh. What’s wrong love?” he whispered as he dried the tears away.

“She hates me!” He said between the quiet sobs.

“She found out about us…” he sniffed. “…and Sirius. She hates me.” He said and burrowed his face in Cassander’s chest.

“She doesn’t hate you Tommy. She’s just confused and probably angry.”

The blond sighed and stood up with the crying man still in his arms. He laid him in his bed and stripped off his damp clothes and tucked him in. He was already heading out the door when he heard the quiet voice from the bed.

“Don’t go…please?” Cassander smiled weakly, stripped quickly and got into the silky covers. Tom curled up against him as he wrapped his arms around him.

“I want to go visit Sirius tomorrow, would you come with me?” Tom asked quietly. Dropping a kiss on his temple Cassander sighed peacefully. He loved this, but he knew he needed to talk to Lilith soon.

“Yes, I would like that.”

“He’s already told me this – “
