The Final Battle

Disclaimer: I don’t own the characters, I only take them out to play with to suit my weird needs. Then I reluctantly give them back to JKR.

Chapter 21
The Final Battle

Lucius apparated to the front gates of his manor first. He quickly scourgified himself and put a strong wall up in his mind to block what had just happened with Hermione. Then he cast a spell that would erase the most recent spells he had cast. This way the Dark Lord would only be able to know that he apparated.

He hated leaving Hermione that way. He never wanted to see her crying when he couldn’t be there to comfort her. But he had been summoned and he mustn’t dawdle. He apparated directly to the throne room of Voldemort.

“Ah Lucius, so nice to see you tonight. We have business to attend to and perhaps after, a revel to satisfy all.” the Dark Lord hissed.

Oh Gods, this was going to be a long night.

******************************************

Hermione had cried when Lucius was summoned from her after only an hour after their binding, but she knew that he must go or suffer terribly. She pulled herself together enough to calm down.

Getting out of bed, she went to her room and decided to get dressed and have a bit of a read in the study. She picked out a book on advanced spell-making and began to walk out to the study to sit in Lucius’ chair. As she was doing that she felt the tug of apparition, but it wasn’t her.

She dropped the book on the couch and concentrated on Lucius. She touched the new mark on her breast and suddenly she knew the exact location that Lucius had apparated to. First, she felt him go to the front gates and then she felt magic. Next she felt him apparate to someplace she didn’t know, but she had coordinates flashing in her mind.

Quickly Hermione ran to the fire and ignited it with her wand then threw in some floo powder, yelling “12 Grimmauld Place”.

“Harry, Ron, Molly, anyone! Can you hear me?” she screamed into the fire.

“I’m here Miss Granger.” Dumbledore said. “What’s wrong child?”

“I know where Voldemort is. You need to get the Order together and go to the following coordinates. Lucius was just summoned and that’s where he apparated to. Please help Headmaster.”

“Calm down Miss Granger. It is just I who is in the kitchen and I’d like to know how you know these coordinates, if I may be so bold.”

I don’t know how I know. I had a binding with Lucius tonight and I could feel him when he apparated, then the coordinates just kept flashing in my head.”

“Fine Hermione. We will discuss what kind of binding at a later time. Right now I must gather the Order and prepare. This may be the end of Voldemort’s tyranny.” he replied.

He blinked out of the fire and she got up to stand in front of Lucius’ chair. She couldn’t lose him yet and she was a member of the Order. She would help in the fight and save her lover.

She quickly ran into her rooms and donned muggle clothing, as it was easier to move around in than robes. She was very adept at slightly changing properties of spells and potions, also with numbers. She adjusted the coordinates and then began to wonder how the bloody hell she was going to get out of the manor.

When she had first arrived, Lucius told her she wouldn’t be able to apparate in the manor and she didn’t think she could just walk out the front door either, especially with Draco still skulking around.

She had to try something. First she’d try apparition, if that didn’t work she’d head for the door, hexing Draco if she had to. She was getting to Lucius no matter what.

Dumbledore had gathered the highest level ranking members of the Order and told them what was going on, specifically leaving out the binding. They had coordinates to apparate to and they were 6,000 members strong, while Voldemort had a mere 1,500 death eaters. Granted, they were more than deadly, but the Order was determined to get this over with.

Everybody had been informed by the coin that Hermione had created for the Order. It was much like the galleon she had done for DA in their fifth year, but this time it glowed red with the numbers being where they had to apparate to.

Harry, Ron, and Dumbledore apparated at the same time, which was a few minutes after the other Order members did. Their job was to take down as many of Voldemort’s ranks as they could so the path would be easier for Harry.

********************************************

Hermione stood in the study and focused her intent on the coordinates she had tinkered with. She held her hand on her left breast as she did so, hoping that the power Lucius has transferred was enough Malfoy for her to apparate. With a loud clap she was gone of the manor and standing outside a different manor. It was a dark and disturbing place to be alone. She began to hear pops of apparition inside this foreboding place. The Order must have arrived. She only waited another 60 seconds before apparating into the room.

She was so glad to see her fellow Order members there, casting spells to incarcerate or severely injure the death eaters. She looked around and quickly cast a spell not allowing any to apparate out of the manor, but still letting other Aurors and members to enter.

The death eaters and Voldemort were caught completely unawares. They were taken down quickly, Hermione casting Incarcerous on Lucius herself, making sure he didn’t get any of the more damaging hexes. She also discreetly put him where nobody could see him.

By the time Harry, Ron and Dumbledore arrived, the path to Voldemort was completely clear. Even Severus had been bound, to protect him from losing his cover in case this didn’t go as planned.

“Well, Harry Potter, sssso nice to ssssee you again. Not here to try to kill me again are you?” Voldemort hissed.

Harry didn’t even bother to respond. He unsheathed a large sword encrusted with rubies and cleaved it right down the middle of Voldemort’s skull. Nothing escaped, as did wisps before. He was truly dead. No dueling, no back and forth snarking at each other. The bloody bastard was finally fucking dead from a sword strike.

Everyone in the room was rejoicing, except Voldemort’s followers. Well a couple of his followers were rejoicing internally, Severus and Lucius being the majority.

The Aurors began to gather up the death eaters in order to send them to Azkaban. They released Severus but were about to take Lucius away from her for a long stay in the wizard prison. Hermione was at the Tonks’ side immediately. She knew Tonks and was going to plead for her wizard, explaining how it was he that gave her the coordinates.

“Tonks, you can’t take Master Malfoy.” Hermione said with a bit of pleading in her voice.

“Hermione, you know I have to. It’s my job to get these wankers off to where they can’t hurt anyone anymore. You know that.” the female Auror replied.

She pulled Tonks to the side and whispered “But he’s the one who gave me the information on where to apparate to. He’s not a criminal. As a matter of fact, the last time he left this place he almost died.”

“How did he give you the information Hermione?” Tonks asked.

Just then Professor Dumbledore came striding over. As always, Dumbledore to the rescue. Hermione looked at him with pleading eyes.

“Nymphadora, this man will not be going to Azkaban. He has helped in a way he knows nothing of, but he has indeed helped immensely. Now if you will please release him so he may be questioned by me and then return home.” Dumbledore told her.

“Yes sir.” Tonks replied, but she knew she wanted to get the goods on how Hermione knew from Lucius where to go. The Auror knew that Hermione had been at Malfoy Manor serving as a maid or something. Quite likely that a little more had gone on. Maybe it had been some pillow talk.

Dumbledore escorted Hermione and Lucius to a small study off the main hall. He intended on getting at least some answers.

“Excuse me sir, but how did you know this room was here?” Hermione asked the Headmaster.

“Well, Miss Granger, always the most curious. I knew the room was here because this used to be my home before I went to teach at Hogwarts. It would be fitting that Voldemort would want to take over at least something of mine. I should have thought of it sooner. Now if you don’t mind, I’d like to ask Master Malfoy and you some questions.”

“I don’t mind Professor.” Hermione replied.

“Neither do I. As long as I can possibly get some answers too.” Lucius said.
