The night of the Halloween Ball arrived and I was in a better mood than I had been in for weeks. It wasn't because of the dance of course, I'm not a bloody girl. It was because of Harry. Ever since our kiss a few days ago it was as if I were in some dream world, or like if I were playing quidditch but instead of riding a broom I was floating.
I put on my black and silver vampire costume and charmed two of my teeth into small fangs so that I really looked the part. Quickly I whispered a spell so that my hair would be slicked back.
"Mmm, you look good enough to eat," my mirror self says as it throws me a wink. I laugh at the playful gesture from the mirror before I whisper out the spell Pansy taught me in order to give myself black nail polish. Another spell, taught by Pansy of course, has my pale lashes darkened by black mascara, as well as a dark layer of eye liner. Satisfied with my vampire get up I quickly pocket my wand before exiting my suite.
As I walk over to Pansy's suite, passing other figures in Halloween costumes, I can't help but wish I were going to Harry's suite instead of Pansy's. I want to see my boy with a desperation felt never before, however duty calls and as a Malfoy it is my duty to escort my soon-to-be bride.
I run a hand over my face before plastering on a fake smile. Hopefully Blaise doesn't have a date so I can leave Pansy with him if she wants to dance, or Daphne if she wants company. I plan to spend this Halloween night in some dark corner with my boy so that we can kiss again. Truly that is were my brain has been for the last couple of days--on kisses. More specifically, Harry' kisses. Well, actually just that one kiss but with tonight's Halloween Ball, surely it will turn into more than just that one pleasurable kiss.
When I finally make it to Pansy's suite I knock on the door a few times. Almost instantly the door is thrown open and standing over the threshold is Pansy in her blood red vampiress dress. Pansy has her strawberry blond hair done up, in order not to clash with the red of her dress, with a few ringlets hanging down. Her lips are painted a deep red and that is the only makeup she has on. When I bow over her hand in greeting, kissing the back of her knuckles, I notice that our fingers are painted the same jet black.
"I'm sure there's not a vampiress in the world as lovely as you," I say to Pansy as I hold out my arm for her. She giggles at me as she takes my arm, and only now from the close proximity do I notice that the jewel on her choker isn't black but a deep dark red.
"I'm sure that I'll be the most beautiful witch in Hogwarts with such a handsome vampire escorting me."
I chuckle at Pansy before thanking her for the compliment as is expected. As we make our way towards the Great Hall I decide to indulge Pansy in some small talk, because if I don't start it who knows what Pansy will start talking about. She is a girl after all and I hope to stay clear of any topics girls talk about. Just the thought of having some type of 'girl talk' makes me shudder a bit.
"Pansy," I say to her softly as we pass costumed figure after costumed figure. I still haven't seen my Harry. "What kind of jewel is that on your choker? Is it Perhaps a ruby?"
"No, it's an imperial garnet."
"Ah," I say as we make our way to the Great Hall. "It must be extremely rare for never have I seen one with such an intensity of color. It's very striking"
"Too true," Pansy says as I spot the open doors of the Great Hall a small distance away. "It is especially difficult to cut over one caret so getting a stone of such color and this size was extremely expensive."
"I'm not sure the stone was worth all of the money, or the effort," I say to Pansy as we enter the Great Hall. When I look down at Pansy she is frowning at me. I smile at her. "For truly the the stone pales in comparison to your exquisite beauty."
Pansy's frown quickly turns into a smile. "Oh, Draco, you are so sweet. Already I am enjoying this night more than I ever hoped for."
"Then I am pleased," I say as I spot Vincent, and Blaise at a black silk covered table. All of the tables are covered in either black, dark purple, or orange, with either a black cat, a witch, or a pumpkin center piece, surrounded by an array of candles. Also the chairs had been decorated for the festivities, each having a black bow tied to the back with a fake pumpkin in the center of the bow. Some chairs even had balloons tied to them and I make sure I avoid sitting in one of those as balloons are so childish.
When we sit down at the table I try not to snicker as Pansy takes the chair with the balloons tied to the back of it. As I look around the darkened room for Harry Pansy chats with Blaise and Greg. After the third room search I still haven't spotted my boy so I return my attention back to the table.
"Have you seen Daphne?" Pansy asks Blaise. Blaise nods towards the dance floor .
"She and Greg are dancing."
"Ooo," Pansy squeals, jumping up from her chair. "Lets go dance Draco."
Inwardly I groan, and I almost ask Vincent or Blaise to dance with Pansy instead. However, as Pansy's soon-to-be husband it is my duty to give her the first dance, the second dance, and even the third dance. I take Pansy's arm in my own, deciding that perhaps this will be the best time to dance with her as Harry still hasn't arrived yet.
When we make it to the dance floor I bow at the waist and Pansy curtsies. We both step forward and I place my left hand on Pansy's waist. Pansy places her left hand on my shoulder before we clasps each other's' right hand. The first song is fast paced and Pansy and I move across the dance floor in unison. Though I am deeply focused on Harry, I can't help but feel pleasure as I dance with Pansy. It is clear from her flawless dancing, which is almost as good as mine, that she has had an excellent teacher. As the song changes to a slower paced one, I am able to focus on the other people on the dance floor and I am immensely glad that Pansy can dance so well because I would hate for my fiance to be horrible dancer, and embarrass me out on the dance floor like a few of the other Hogwarts students.
"They must be Gryffindors," Pansy says as she nods slightly to the atrociously dancing couple a few feet away from us.
I grin darkly down at her. "Of course they are. Who else would dance that horridly?"
"Hufflepuffs?" Pansy asks curiously and her and I laugh together as we dance into the next song.
The next song is almost a median of the last two. It wasn't as fast as the first nor as slow as the second; it is an upbeat song exactly in between. I grin at Pansy as I let go of her waist. She seems to know exactly what it is I plan to do as she loosens her grip on my shoulder. I take a small step back before twirling Pansy out. Her red dress flares around her ankles and I make out small pare of black d'orsay before I have Pansy twirling back in my arms. When she is flush against my chest I turn her body towards the side, lowering her over my left arm. When I pull her back up we are back in our original dancing position though our bodies are much closer.
"Oh," Pansy breaths, so close to me that I can feel her breath on my ear. "There's Daphne over there, we should head that way."
I turn the both of us around, Pansy still close in my arms, and indeed there is Daphne a few couples away, dancing with Greg. "Ah," I say as I lead the both of us closer to Daphne and Greg. "Perhaps you are right." Perhaps Daphne will keep you occupied so that I can find my boy.
When Pansy and I make it over to Greg and Daphne we switch dance partners. Daphne is a little bit taller than Pansy, especially as she is not wearing heels. The top of her head reaches just below my eyes instead of my chin as Pansy's does. Based on Daphne's costume I assume that she has dressed up as a wood elf. Her vivid red hair is brushed back from her face, kept in place by a gold laurel leaf crown. She has shimmery gold makeup around her eyes and on her lips. As I clasps her hand I notice that her nails are the same glittery gold color. And as we move around on the dance floor her hair shimmers and I suppose she spelled the glittery stuff in her hair as well.
When I twirl Daphne out a twirl her back in her dress does not have the same effect that Pansy's did. Her dress is a deep green color with one arm missing so that the top of the dress is asymmetrical. The dress in and of itself is very short, with the bottom reaching the top of Daphne's thighs, however, she has on green stockings so Daphne doesn't appear skimpy or anything, like some of the other Halloween outfits.
As the song draws to an end I am extremely happy as I have fulfilled my Malfoy duty. Now I can leave Pansy is Greg's or Daphne's company. When I return Daphne back to Greg Pansy takes my arm in hers, laying her head on my shoulder.
"All that dancing has me a little parched," Pansy says and I get the unmistakable urge to leave her out on the dance floor. I have already wasted enough time with her when I could be with my boy, however, I am nothing if not a gentleman, so I escort the both of us off the dance floor, leading us to the food and beverage section.
"Sparkling pumpkin juice?" I ask Pansy as she pulls out a black lace fan.
"Please," Pansy says as she fans her flushed face.
I pour a glass of the bubbly orange liquid before handing it to Pansy. She takes a delicate sip as I pour myself a glass. "Treacle tart?" I ask her. Pansy nods her head and I put some treacle tart, as well as a few other snacks on a black and orange paper plate. When I am finished Pansy takes my arm again and I lead us back to our table.
As we both take our previously evacuated seats Pansy begins chatting with Blaise and Vincent again and I once more eye the room for Harry. My eyes survey the darkened room twice before I spot the figure of my boy. I growl angrily as I watch him dance with Longbottom. The music has changed from classical to some form of modern techno and most of the people on the dance floor are jumping up and down or doing some other form of 'dancing.' I get up from the table quickly, throwing a hasty 'goodbye' to the trio sitting there. As I make my way towards Harry I eagerly admire his werecat costume. Harry is sporting a pair of black knickerbockers and a pair of half black and half green jester shoes. Harry doesn't have on any stockings so his pale legs gleam in the dim light. I rake my eyes up higher, taking note of the black tail swishing back and forth, as well as the thin line of pale flesh visible between the top of his pants and the bottom of his emerald green vest.
Harry is sporting similar makeup fashion as me and the black eyeliner and mascara makes his eyes seem larger as well as the green of his eyes a deeper color. Harry's emerald vest is embroidered with some geometric pattern that matches the one on his shoes. When I get closer to Harry I notice the small pair of black cat ears that is hardly noticeable from his head of messy jet black hair.
As if he can sense my presence Harry jerks around when I am but a few feet away, his eyes going wide and his mouth turning up in pleasure. "Draco," Harry breaths out over the loud music. I can't actually hear him but I'm sure it's my name he's calling as he rushes over to me. Without any hesitation Harry throws his arms around me, giving me a tight hug in greeting. I return the embrace, wrapping my arms around Harry's waist and when my boy draws back I don't release my grip.
"How long have you been here?" I ask Harry as I maneuver him into dance position. Harry blushes as I draw him flush against my form. He bites his lips and looks at me from under his lashes.
"Since you and Pansy were dancing."
"Ah," I say as I slow dance with Harry. "Don't tell Pansy this, but when I was dancing with her, I was thinking about you."
Harry beams a smile at me before he glances around the dance floor. "Everyone's watching us," Harry says as his grip on my shoulder tightens.
I smile at him as I spin us in a tight circle. "That's because we're slow dancing to techno," I say to Harry, laughing aw he continuously eyes the room.
"Oh," Harry says, turning his eyes back to me. "I thought they were all looking because were both boys."
I chuckle at Harry as I bend him over my arm as I had done Pansy earlier. When I pull Harry up his face is flushed red and I hold him tightly against my chest. "Almost half of the wizarding world consist of same sex couples, Harry. It's a very common sight. If anything I would say they are watching us because I am Draco Malfoy, and you are Harry Potter."
Harry frowns slightly as he bites his lip before sighing, laying his head on my shoulder. I can feel his breath on my neck when he speaks. "I guess your right," Harry says. "Though I would give anything not to be Harry Potter." I frown at Harry's muttered words but when the song changes to rock I quickly lead us off of the dance floor. Now is my chance to make Harry mine again, to claim his mouth as I will one day claim his soul.
When I lead us out of the Great Hall I can hear a few other couples giggling in shaded alcoves but I ignore them, trying to find a dark private one where Harry and I won't be interrupted. Finally I find a good enough spot behind an old suit of armor and I lead Harry to the hidden bench behind me, sitting down on the cold marble before I drag him down to my lap. Harry wraps his arms around my neck and, placing his head above my collar bone and I can feel the warmth emanating from his skin.
"Can we do what we did last time?" Harry asks me softly. His breath tickles my neck but ignore the urge to turn my turn my head away.
"Do what?" I ask Harry, raising his head up with a hand under his chin. Even in the dim light I can make out the bright green of Harry's eyes as well as the fiery red flush on his face.
Harry flush increases in color and he bites his bottom lip. I reach out a hand, removing his lip from the clutches of his teeth, before I lower my head, meeting his lips with my own. Harry gasps and presses his lips hard against mine. I can taste the slight tang of his blood where his teeth pierced his lip and in that moment I feel as I would imagine a vampire must feel: seducing his victim, stealing with an innocent kiss the life blood which flows under Harry's skin.
Our kiss doesn't last very long as the need for air becomes too great. The both of us pull back, gasping in deep gulps of air as we wait for our heart beats to slow.
"That was nice," Harry says, and in the dim light I can see a pink tongue dart out to lick at his lips. "We shouldn't do this alot though, we might get in trouble."
I chuckle at Harry before taking his chin in my hand, giving his lips a peck of reassurance before I stand up from the bench, bring Harry with me. "As long as we kiss in private there is nothing to worry about."
Harry nods his head and I take his hand in mine, leading us back to the Great Hall. "Have you kissed Pansy in private?" Harry asks me in what he perhaps believes to be a calm voice.
"No," I say. I can feel Harry's body relax against mine. "Have you kissed Longbottom?" I ask Harry. Harry mouth drops open in shock.
"Of course not, Draco! I didn't even know that two boys could kiss until I kissed you. Besides, Neville is just my friend. I only wanna kiss you," Harry finishes shyly, looking me in the eyes from under his dark lashes.
I grin at Harry, drawing him closer to me. "And there is no one I want to kiss but you."
Harry returns my grin and we enter the Great Hall, hand in hand, each of us in blissful oblivion until it is shattered by a stuttering voice. "T--Troll! Troll in the dungeons!"
The students who can hear the Professor gasps as a loud outcry begins across the hall. I glare in disgust at the Professor as he passes out in fright. The man is pathetic and I'm surprised that he actually has a job teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. Or perhaps his teaching position is a reflection of Dumbledore's stupidity.
"Silence!" the Headmaster yells as he stands up from the head table. Though the murmuring doesn't stop completely it does lower a significant amount. "Prefects, please escort all of your housemates to their common room, no matter if they have suites or not. A troll can be a dangerous thing, this is not the time for students to be separated."
As students begin crying out in distress, the teachers quickly make their way up to the Head table, circling around Dumbledore's tall form. Harry tightens his hold on my arm as the Prefects attempt to bring order to all the students. "Draco," Harry begins distressingly.
"Shh," I say, patting Harry's cat ears. "There is no way I'm going to the dungeons if the troll is in the dungeons. How idiotic can Dumbledore be?"
"I want to stay with you," Harry says.
"Of course."
"Where is Pansy?"
"What?" I ask as I turn around. Blaise is in the company of Greg and Vincent.
"When you two left Pansy took Daphne with her to go and look for you!"
I frown at Blaise as I rapidly think of all the places Pansy would go if she were looking for me.
"Why are we just standing here? We need to go and find her!" Blaise yells. Any other situation and I would have made Blaise pay dearly for yelling at me. However, Pansy's safety will be on my head, or lack thereof if I don't find her. And fast.
"Let's go," I say, quickly leading the five of us out of the Great Hall. We sneak through the doors behind a large group of students as they try to organize the younger students into lines. I snort in disgust at their horrible skills but am greatly pleased that it allowed us to exit the Great Hall without incident. As we jog down the corridors, keeping a close lookout for Pansy and Daphne, I notice Blaise costume and though I have a hunch about what it is I ask him just to be sure.
"It's Van Helsing," Blaise says distractedly as his eyes dart around for the two missing girls. Though my thoughts should be focused on Pansy, and subsequently Daphne, I can't help but wonder who the vampire is that Blaise wishes to kill.
"Oh," Harry says, taking me out of my thoughts. "Did you hear that?"
Immediately we all stop our movements as we strain our ears to listen to the noise that Harry has just heard. When I make our the faint sound I furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
"It sounds like someone's crying," Vincent says.
Greg points down a dark corridor. "I think it coming from down there."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" Blaise yells as he leads our group down the corridor. As we walk further and further down the hallway the sound of someone crying gets louder and louder. We all mutter out a 'lumus' in order to light the dark passage, each of us eying the doors for any room that the noise might be coming from.
"Ah," I say as my wand lights up the words 'Lady's Lavatory.' "The noise is probably coming from in here."
Blaise nods his head and raises up his hand, silently counting down 3-2-1 with his fingers. When he does get to one we swiftly enter the bathroom.
"Oh Draco," Pansy squeals out, throwing her arms around my shoulders. "I knew you would come looking for me! Didn't I say that, Daphne?"
Daphne shrugs in disinterest as she pets the hair of a brown bushy-haired girl. The girl seems vaguely familiar and when she lifts up her tear streaked face the memory of the train ride to Hogwarts awakens. Ah I think to myself in remembrance, the beaver.
"Come on," I say to Daphne. "We have to go."
Daphne stands up, trying to bring the girl with her but she refuses to leave her spot on the floor.
"No! I'm not leaving. I don't wanna go..."
I sigh in annoyance at the bushy-haired girl. Truthfully I don't care if she stays or not but with the troll running free, if the girl ends up dead, that might come around and bite me in the arse. "Do you want to die then?" I ask the girl.
"What?" she lifts up her head again and there is confusion painted across her face.
"There is a troll running around the school and we do not leave immediately to a safe room then we might end up as troll's food." Well, of course I wouldn't end up a trolls food but from the look of the girl she definitely was easy pickings.
The girl sniffs a few more times and Pansy hands her a white embroidered handkerchief. "Thanks," the girl mumbles out as she wipes her tears from her face. When she finally stands up I let out a sigh of relief as I do not want to be in her company for longer than necessary. The sooner I leave this restroom, the sooner I can ditch Pansy and the mudblood, and the sooner I can be alone with my Harry.
"Oh, my god," the mudlood whispers out in shock, clutching her neck and taking a step back, pressing her back flush against the tile wall. I frown, turning around to see what it is the idiot mudblood is looking at when I am assaulted by the most horrendous scent ever. Truly I feel that I am moments away from puking, or worse, death.
"Bloody Hell, it's the troll!" Blaise yells out as we all scramble to the far end of the lavatory. My nose wrinkles in disgust as I see and smell the troll. It has got to be the most offensive creature ever to walk the earth. It's ugly and green and huge and clearly very stupid. And it stinks like something unimaginable.
"Grrr?" the monstrosity growls out. It's probably surprised that it has such a nice feast laid out. However that thing will definitely not get any closer to me. I think I'll have to burn everything I'm wearing because I'm sure the scent will never get out.
When the troll lifts up it's arm, about to swing it's huge club down I brandish my wand. "Wingardium Leviosa," swish and flick. The huge club floats in the air and the troll looks at in dumbly as it floats over his head. I flick my wrist again, ending the spell. Gravity causes the club to fall down like a ton of bricks on the troll's head and the huge horrid thing staggers to the bathroom floor. Everyone jumps as the troll's fallen form has knocked over almost all the bathroom stalls, as well as a few of the sinks. There is water flying everywhere and in seconds we are all soaked and wet.
"What is going on here?" Instantly we all focus our attention to the bathroom door. "Holy Merlin! Who did this?" Standing in the doorway is Professor McGonagall, looking as stern as ever. "Who used unsupervised magic? Well, which one of took down the troll?" When no one answers the woman lets out a huge huff. "Well then, if you all did this then I guess I'll have to take ten house points from each of you."
I open my mouth to admit that I did it, because getting ten house points taken is better than getting sixty house points taken, however, before I can let the admission out the mudblood steps forward. "That won't be necessary, Professor. I was the one who used magic to stop the troll. The other people just came to see if I was alright when they heard all the noise."
"You took down the troll?" Professor McGonagall asks in clear disbelief. "I don't believe you."
Hermione pulls out her wand and demonstrates to McGonagall the same spell that I had just used, picking up the troll's club before gently placing it back on the ground. "I let it fall on his head," she says clarification. McGonagall just huffs again before leaving the room.
"Thanks Hermione," Harry says softly just in case McGonagall is still in close proximity. Hermione grins at Harry.
"Is ten house points worth more than your life?" she asks Harry cheekily. Harry returns her grin as my Godfather walks in.
"McGonagall tells me that it was Miss Granger who took down the troll." Hermione nods her head and I suppose she is preparing herself for more house point deductions but I'm sure Uncle Sev is going to reward us Slytherins with house points for something, especially when McGonagall just tried to take sixty house points.
My hunch is confirmed as he rewards each of us, except the mudblood, with ten points for courage or some such rot. I smirk at him as he stalks out of the room, ordering us to return to our suites immediately. I take Harry's hand in mine, squeezing it tightly before I let it go. Though it would please me to walk with my boy back to his rooms first duty calls.
I hold out my arm to Pansy and she takes it in her own. I lead us out of the bathroom then mutter a drying spell so that we won't have to walk with wet clothes on. When we make it Pansy's suite I bow goodbye to her and she curtsies at me. I let out a sharp whistle and in a little less than ten seconds my large eagle owl flies from the perch were I ordered him to wait. In his clutches he is holding a large bouquet of the same pink roses that Pansy seemed to like so much from our Hogsmead trip.
Pansy smiles at me as I give her the flowers and she reaches her arms over my shoulder, hugging me tightly before giving me a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks for the wonderful night, Draco. I enjoyed myself immensely and the roses are absolutely beautiful."
"I am please," I say to Pansy. I bring her hand to my lips, softly kissing her pale knuckles. "Goodnight, Pansy."
"Goodnight, Draco," she calls after me, her soft voice barely reaching my ears as I quickly walk down the corridor. I have wasted enough time with Pansy already. Now it is time for just me and Harry.
