I Loved Her First
I Loved Her First
Severus stood to the side of the main hall at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and stared out at the couple on the dance floor. His heart was breaking slowly as he watched the raven haired beauty held tightly in the arms of the dashing blonde wizard. She was smiling so prettily up at him, and Severus missed the days when that smile was reserved only for him.
His mind flashed back to the first moment he had seen her…..He stood at the bedside of his cherished bride as this little miracle slipped into his world. The medi-witch had held her up, all pink and soft with a head full of inky black curls. She had screamed like a banshee as they cleaned her up, then put her into his arms. Immediately she stopped crying as she stared up at him, and from that moment she owned his heart.
He couldn’t fight the memories as they flooded back to him….her first smile had been for him, her first word was Daddy. He remembered the doors of his classroom opening and his little angel toddling down the aisle to get to him. Sitting beneath his desk playing with a little cauldron as he taught his classes, following him around, hidden beneath his robes as he patrolled the school at night. He remembered how she would mimic him in front of the class, and try to take house points from the students as she toddled through the halls.
He recalled the soft smirk of her lips when she was sorted into Slytherin, the pretty smiles she always had for him across the classroom, the way she would crawl into his lap and lay her head on his shoulder and whisper ‘I love you Daddy’, for no other reason than ‘I just wanted to’.
Not so long ago she swore that she could never love anyone as much as him, that he was the only man she needed in her life. An hour ago he had walked her down the aisle, and with a heavy heart he had given his baby’s hand to the man of her choice. She could have done worse he supposed, than Scorpius Malfoy. Despite his lineage, he was a decent lad, and he was completely devoted to Sara and had been since their fourth year in school. His little angel had the boy completely wrapped around her finger and dancing merrily to her little tune. Just as she had done with him.
“Are you alright, darling?” Hermione slipped up next to him and slid her arm around his waist. He lifted his arm and draped it over her shoulder, pulling her close against his side.
“I don’t know.” He said softly as he watched his daughter dance around the room in that beautiful white gown.
“You can’t hold her forever, you have to let her go.” Hermione said quietly as she laid her head against his chest.
“I can’t do that, she’s mine, and she always will be.” He said, catching his breath when his little girl looked up and smiled at him. She slipped from her new husband’s arms and glided towards him.
“Come on Daddy, dance with me.” She said as she grabbed his hand. Hermione smiled as she watched Severus being led to the floor by their daughter. He hated to dance, but sometimes she wondered if he actually felt pain if he refused Sara, not that he ever did.
“Don’t look so sad Daddy.” She said, looking up at him with those wide amber eyes so like her mothers.
“I’m sorry sweetheart, don’t mind me.” He said, kissing her forehead. “I just want you to be happy.”
“I am Daddy, I love him.” She said as she glanced to where Scorpius was dancing with his own mother. She turned back to her father and smiled softly. “But don’t worry, you were the first man I ever loved, and the only one I know for sure I will always love.” Severus smiled when he felt her bare feet step up and onto the tops of his, just like the first time she had made him dance with her when she was five.
“I love you too.” He said, hoping she wouldn’t see how hard it was for him to let her go. She laid her head on his chest as they danced. Severus looked over to see Hermione wiping the tears from her eyes as she watched them. Sebastian was rolling his eyes one second, his knees buckling the next as he fell into the table.
“Sara, that wasn’t nice love.” Severus said with a chuckle.
“Sorry Daddy.” She said, lifting her head to smirk at him before laying her head back on his chest as he laughed. ‘That’s my girl’ he thought to himself, and no matter what, or who came into her life, he had been the one to love her first.
I Loved Her First by Heartland
Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each other's face
So much in love you're alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it's still hard to give her away
I loved her first
How could that beautiful woman with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it's still hard to give her away
I loved her first
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first
