chapter 20

Chapter 20
another smut free episode, building up to a Lemon next, and actual story development too, amazing.

A few days later Mia was eating dinner thoughtfully in the great hall. Even a brief scan of the room found faces looking dour, dreary and generally depressed. The students all seemed quiet after the excitement of Christmas and the ball, looking at the 4 champions she saw faces which seemed more stressed than people so young had any right to be.
Poor Harry Potter in particular she thought, looked beside himself, pushing vegetables round his plate frustratedly. The staff table was no better, Hagrid whom she’d spent a couple of mornings trying to cheer up with breakfast cakes, was still red about the eyes following his upset with the daily prophet. Snape who never looked happy at meal times was glaring determinedly at his meal once again avoiding any conversation.
Only Dumbledore was close to his normal self as she smiled at him over pudding and received a generous crinkly eyed grin in return.

Leaving the hall to return to the medical wards after the meal Mia stopped as she heard a familiar voice behind her,

“Miss Skuld, hold on there for a moment, I need a word” Alistair Moody approached quickly despite his bulky frame and odd gait.

“Professor, how can I help?” She asked looking around for any observers, finding none.

“You need to move again tonight. Time is passing and I will be needing a distraction so I hope you can kill two birds with one stone as it were” He looked at her, with an unpleasant smile, that brought involuntarily to mind Barty and her magpies mutual dislike for one another.

“Ok, but can’t you tell me what’s going on, I’m, I’m not sure about how things are going. Its not working out how you said.” She reached out a hand, a gesture looking for reassurance, but finding none as the man quickly put a finger up to his lips, for quiet.

“I can’t talk to you now, listen, speak of the devil as it were.”

“What?” she asked before hearing the sound of fast, deliberate footsteps approaching,
“Right, just follow my lead ok?” she whispered urgently, pinching her cheeks to redden them then standing back hands on hips to look angry, “How dare you!” she spoke loudly, almost shouting, “With all due respect professor who I choose to spend my time with is none of your business!”

So as the tall potions master rounded the corner he was confronted by the scene of a supposed dispute after hearing Mia’s raised voice. He looked at them both with one brow raised,

“Having some problems Miss Skuld? Moody?”

“Don’t play innocent with me Snape, I know what kind of man you are and you should stay away from nice young girls like this, as I’ve just told Miss Skuld”

Snape straightened his back, standing to full imposing height,
“I’m afraid I must, in that case, agree with the young lady, who she chooses to spend time with is no concern of yours. And I’d say it would be prudent to stay out of my affairs in future.”

“Are you threatening me? You..”

“Would any of you care to enlighten me as to what is going on?” A new voice rang out, interrupting the flow of insult.

“Headmaster, everything is fine, a little disagreement is all.” Gesturing dismissively Snape stepped outwards widening the group, the distance between himself and Moody had somehow become uncomfortably close.

“Alastair?” Dumbledore looked questioningly at the scarred, scruffy looking wizard.

“No problem Albus, no problem.” He glared at the other two momentarily.

“Everything’s fine Professor, I was just getting back to duties, so please excuse me all.” Mia also stepped away, nodding to the Headmaster; she deliberately avoided eye contact with her newer lover, instead flicking a look imperceptible to the others to the other man. With that she turned and made a hasty retreat up stairs.

Later that evening the young healer made her way through the labyrinthine passages of the castle which led to the dungeons and the office of the slytherin head of house.
The chill in the air made her skin goose pimple slightly under the thin fabric of her robe, dressed for company rather than practicality she felt a thrill of anticipation at the encounter ahead as well as nerves concerning what was going on elsewhere in the castle that evening.

Stopping at the heavy wood door she stopped to shake her hair lose, from its pins. In recent weeks she’d been colouring less, allowing some of the natural highlights to shine through, odd strands of chestnut and moss.
Feeling ready she knocked the door.
No response.
She knocked again, this time a disgruntled voice sounded from within,
“Enter.”
