Unexpected Consequences
When Neville and Hermione had left the Room of Requirement, they had not shut the door completely. Neither had noticed in the hurry. The person who had been following them pushed it open and stared inside. The bed was mussed a little, but they hadn’t been in there for very long, he thought.
He felt his heart drop when he realized that they must be a couple. They had come here to snog but for some reason had left in a hurry. He didn’t notice the other door. Closing the room up, he scowled fiercely. Oh, this would not do at all. Not at all.

Madam Pomfrey led a mortified Hermione into one of the private rooms. It was likely the Wizarding flu, she thought, but she decided to run some standard tests on her. She went through the list and somewhere towards the end she stopped. She stared at the glow around Hermione in consternation and tried the spell again. She had the same reaction.
Hermione frowned at the look on Madam Pomfrey’s face. She looked extremely unhappy and a little uneasy.
“What is it? What is wrong?” she asked worriedly. The Wizarding world has so many different magial illnesses and Hermione knew it would be her luck she had contracted an incurable one. Madam Pomfrey sighed.
“Hermione... have you had any other odd symptoms lately? Feeling ill? Being tired? Anything?”
Hermione scowled thoughtfully. She had been ill sometimes but not extreme. She had also been tired, depressed and sore. She had thought it was because of the things she had gone through, including the ordeal with Snape. She had been quite depressed.
“Yes, some. I thought it was just leftover from being killed.” She said matter-of-factly.
Madam Pomfrey held back the laughter she felt suddenly bubble up in her throat. “It is the complete opposite, my dear. I am afraid you are pregnant.”
Hermione just gaped at the Medi-witch. She wasn’t quite sure she had heard her right. Pregnant? Hermione then did something she had never done before. She fainted.
Neville waited outside the private room patiently. He had scourgified his robes and sat in a chair to wait for Hermione. He had never really dated a girl before but he knew it wouldn’t be right to just leave her when she might need him. He wouldn’t do that to any of his friends, much less a supposed girlfriend. After waiting for a good twenty minutes, he sighed.
He wasn’t sure what he had got himself into. When Hermione had asked for his help, he had said yes. What good Gryffindor wouldn’t jump in feet first without thinking about the consequences? Now her plan had been implemented, he had his doubts. Professor Snape was not someone you wanted to have a grudge against you. But then again, Neville thought, considering her revenge, Hermione Granger was not someone you wanted to hold a grudge either.
He sighed and continued to wait.
In the room, Madame Pomfrey shook her head and waved her wand.
“Enerverate!”
Hermione opened her eyes and groaned when she saw Madam Pomfrey staring at her. She grabbed a pillow from the bed and covered her face. This isn’t happening, she thought. The pillow was pulled away from her.
“I will send Mr. Longbottom in, Miss Granger. Maybe you can discuss this with him.”
Hermione gave her a bemused look. Why would she want to discuss this with Neville? And then it hit her. Madam Pomfrey had no doubt seen them during breakfast and assumed the child was his. If her true relationship with Neville was revealed, most people would believe it belonged to Draco. She had to hold back the hysterical laughter. Her life was such a mess.
Madam Pomfrey left the room and a few moments later, a bewildered Neville entered the room.
“Er... are you alright? Madam Pomfrey said you have something to tell me?” he asked nervously, wondering if what she had was contagious.
Hermione began to laugh. “She... thinks the... baby is... yours.” She said between bursts of laughter. It took a moment for what she said to sink in and then he began to laugh too. Oh, how the rumors would fly.
She finally calmed down and patted for him to sit next to her. “This isn’t going to work, you know. I can’t take the potion if I am pregnant so I have to come up with another plan. Maybe we should break up?”
Neville shrugged. “I guess. I...”
Hermione gave him a smile. “Oh don’t worry, Neville, I’ll help you get your girl. We should make this spectacular though. Maybe...” she trailed off, thinking about the breakup. “Look, I will meet you for dinner in the Great Hall.”
She left the room to find Madam Pomfrey waiting outside.
“Please do not tell anyone yet. It is going to be a surprise for a good many people and I want to be the one to tell them.” Hermione requested. Madam Pomfrey nodded her assent and Hermione left.
She walked down the halls, deep in thought and did not see the person following her. She didn’t hear anything until someone grabbed her around the waist and pressed a hand over her mouth.
“Did you think you were going to get away from me that easily?” a voice purred in her ear.
