Summary: Severus has been captured by Aurors for the murder
of Dumbledore and the rape of Hermione. He requests something unusual and the
lives of everyone will never be the same.

Chapter 18: Diagon Alley

   “Enter,” Minerva
called when there was a knock on her door.

When it opened she saw Hermione standing there.

   “Yes, Hermione.”

   “Well, I was
wondering if I could have my list of supplies that I need for this year,”
Hermione asked.

   “Of course,” she
said, grinning at her.

She walked over and produced a list that she then handed to
Hermione.

   “Do you want
Kingsley to go with you?”

Hermione nodded and Minerva summoned the black Auror.

            Ten minutes
later both of them were in Diagon Alley. The line of shops had hardly any
business, which meant that Hermione got her shopping done very quickly. While
she waited for her seventh year course books she chatted with him, something
that she had never been able to do.

   “Do you think my
baby will be fine?” she asked him.

   “I’m sure he will
be,” Kingsley said. “At least, that’s what we all think.”

Hermione bit her lip and then took the bag that the manager
gave her.

   “Thanks,” Hermione
said.

And they both left the shop.

   “Where’s Hermione
at?” Severus asked Harry ten minutes after Hermione and Kingsley had left.

   “I think she went
to Diagon Alley to get her things,” Harry said. “She went with Kingsley for
protection.”

Severus suddenly felt jealous, though he didn’t understand
why. He figured that it had something to do with the bond.

   “Well let her know
that I was looking for her,” he told Harry.

Harry nodded and Severus went outside.

            Severus
spent that morning making sure that he had what he needed for all his classes
and then he went to Hogsmead for a Butterbeer. As he walked, he thought about a
time in which he wouldn’t have to worry about Voldemort wanting to harm people.
He entered the Three Broomsticks and Madam Rosmerta gave him what he asked for.
She then joined him with her usual cherry drink.

   “I heard what
happened,” she told him.

He sipped his butterbeer and looked at her.

   “And what part did
you hear?” he asked her.

   “About what Mr.
Weasley did to you and Hermione,” she said, going a little white. “How
disgusting!”

   “I’ll agree with
that,” he said. “But he’s in Azkaban and that’s all I care about.”

She smiled at him.

   “That I’ll agree
with.”

And she finished her drink and left.

            When
Severus returned to the castle he saw Kingsley talking to Minerva. Both of them
looked at him and let him pass. He decided that it was about time that he had a
talk with Hermione and figure out what she planned on doing for the baby. He
found her ten minutes later chatting with Ginny.

   “I hope they don’t
have a ball this year,” he heard Hermione tell Ginny. “I won’t be able to wear
a nice dress.”

   “It won’t be long,”
he heard Ginny tell her.

He heard a sigh and knew that it had come from Hermione.

   “I know, but I don’t
have to like it.”

Severus agreed with that and decided to leave the two
witches in peace.

            Remus
shivered as he entered the tall and foreboding walls of Azkaban. It had been
along time since he had been here, but he would never forget them. He signed in
at the front desk and then told him who he wanted to see.

   “I’m sorry sir, but
that wizard is dead,” he informed him.

Remus went white.

   “When did this
happen?”

   “Last night,” the
man answered.

Remus bolted for Hogwarts.

Note: What happened to Ron? Next chapter: Minerva hears
horrible news and we find out that Severus fancied Hermione long before the
horrible events happened.
