Midnight Rendezvous and Bulldozing Wizards

My Mate
Chapter 20: Midnight Rendezvous and Bulldozing Wizards

Ginny couldn’t sleep.

It wasn’t just that so much had happened recently. No, it was because she kept getting waves of angry and bitter emotion that she assumed were coming from Draco. This telepathic/empathic thing was weird.

She could tell that he was still awake, and she had the feeling that he was pacing the floors. A flash of heartbreaking pain, wrenched her from bed and had her grabbing for her robe.

Before she really knew what she was doing, Ginny was standing outside his door debating whether to knock or just sneak in. Finally, she just grabbed the handle and creeped into his suite.

At first she didn’t see him, but a slight movement in the shadows caught her eye. There wasn’t a single light on, but the moonlight shining through the window sill was enough for her to avoid running into anything.

He didn’t speak as she came up to stand behind him, but he had to know she was there.

“Are you all right?”

He gave a short bitter bark of laughter. “Why wouldn’t I be all right? I’m a Malfoy after all and we are always better than all right.”

“Cut the superior crap, Draco. We’re linked remember? You’re hurting and…”

He shook off the hand she tried to lay on his shoulder.

“I’m not hurting, I’m angry.”

“You’re both.”

“She got knocked up by my professor.”

“How dare you speak that way about your mother! It couldn’t have been easy for her.”

“She gave her kid away and married Lucius!”

“She probably didn’t have a choice! You can’t know everything that happened or why she did what she did, and she seems to genuinely regret it, so at least give her the benefit of the doubt.”

“Now that prick is my half-brother!”

“I thought you were good friends with him.”

“Were being the operative word.”

Ginny stared at him realization dawning over her features. “You’re jealous of him aren’t you?”

Draco scoffed, but he avoided her gaze. “That’s absurd!”

“No it’s not. You always viewed Severus as a father figure and you knew that he thought of you as a son, but now he has a real son and you’re jealous.” Draco opened his mouth to retort, but Ginny kept going.

“Not only that, but you used to be an only child and now you’re not the only one any more and you’re jealous because your mother has another son that she loves.”

“You’re crazy!” Draco’s fists were clenched so tight, they were white.

“And you know what else I think? I think that you’re jealous that Simeon has Severus for a father and your father is Lucius. You’ve wanted to be Severus’ son and now someone has usurped your place.”

“Shut up!” Draco snarled.

Ginny ignored him.

“You’re afraid that because Simeon turned up, now Severus and Narcissa won’t love you as much. That Simeon will take your place in their affections and they’ll have to divide their love between you two.”

Draco turned away and Ginny almost keeled over at the pain the washed over her. She slipped her arms around him from behind. It was the first time she voluntarily embraced him. She laid her cheek on his back, feeling the softness of his cloak.

“My mother would tell you that love doesn’t divide. It multiplies. The more people you love, the more love you have to give.” She laughed softly. “She had seven kids and she wasn’t short of love, believe me. Your mother isn’t either. I can tell.”

“I look exactly like my father, Virginia. Whenever she looks at me she sees him. But now she has a son that looks like the man she loved. Even if she did love me as much as Simeon, it would still pain her to look at me.”

Draco stiffened, as if just realizing what he had blurted out.

“Has your mother ever told you that?”

“Of course not! I just know. How could she not feel like that?”

“She’s your mother! She’d love you no matter who you look like or who you remind her of.”

“That doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be hurt!” Draco slammed his fist into the wall.

“She knows you’re not your father! She loves you no matter who you look like or even what you’ve done! The worst thing you could do now is to turn away from her when she needs you the most!” Ginny grabbed his shoulder to make him face her.

“Severus and Simeon are not ready to forgive her yet and the only person she has right now is you, and you’ve done the same thing as they did. You have been her world for a long time now and the only thing that’s kept her going was you…”

His face was blank and she wished she knew what was going through his head.

“…so tomorrow morning you’re going to march yourself down to the Hospital Wing and you’re going to talk with your mother and make sure she knows that you love her and are supporting her. Understand?”

Ginny punctuated the last part with a firm finger to his chest and almost screamed when he grabbed her finger lightning fast and hauled her into his arms, clamping tightly.

“You’re sexy when you get bossy.” Draco growled a split second before his lips crashed down on hers.

Ginny shuddered as sensations bombarded her. It was amazing how fast he went from sullen and brooding to amorous and passionate. A second later all thoughts were pushed out of her head, when Draco began sucking on her neck.

There was a frenzy of moaning and hands flying. Somehow they had ended up on the bed, her cloak discarded on the floor, and her nightgown pushed down to her waist. Ginny squealed when Draco enveloped her nipple, swirling his tongue around it.

She was being swept away by the maelstorm of passion that he was weaving around her. To make it even more intense, she could feel the desire and emotion from him enveloping her like a cocoon. Ginny had never felt anything this strong before.

“Stop.”

“Why? You haven’t changed you mind have you?” Draco retorted angrily.

“No, but we’re not. I mean, we’re not married or are we just going to live together or something?”

“Of course we’re getting married! We’re mates!” He stared at her as if she were out of her mind.

“Yeah, but still, we hadn’t talked about it or anything and I didn’t know…”

“I would not live with my mate without marrying you.” He looked afronted.

“Well, we should probably talk about…” She vaguely waved her hand around. “…you know…”

Now he seemed confused. “No, what am I supposed to know?”

Ginny squirmed uncomfortably. This was awkward.

“We haven’t really talked about…you know, when…and soon, or later, or…”

“Oh.” Draco sat back on his heels. “This weekend.”

The look on her face was priceless. At least, it would have been if she could have seen it.

“But…but that’s only four days away!”

“Exactly.” His words were muffled from where his mouth was buried in her throat. He obviously thought the matter was settled.

“But that’s too soon!”

“No it’s not.”

“Yes it is.”

“No it’s not.”

“Yes it….Draco!” Ginny managed to shove him away and scrambled off the bed.

“We cannot get married in four days! Weddings take time…and well, I’ll have to break it to my folks, which won’t be pleasant and…”

“The sooner we’re married the better. My mother will be pleased and it might help her recovery.”

“I can’t believe you’re trying to guilt me into this!” Ginny threw up her hands in exasperation.

He watched her pace around the room, her nightgown swirling around her pale legs and her bright hair tumbling about her shoulders and tried to concentrate on the conversation. Merlin, but she was beautiful.

“Saturday. The wedding will take place on Saturday.” Draco stated adamantly.

Huffing, Ginny gave up trying to reason with him and headed for the door, only to find herself once again wrapped up in his arms.

“After all, you want to be married before we complete the process don’t you?” His lips nibbled at hers. “Because I won’t be able to hold out much longer.”

Draco sealed their mouths and thrust his tongue through her lips. Ginny moaned feverishly as his hands smoothed over her body, pulling her closer.

All of a sudden, she was abruptly shoved out the door and it closed behind her.

Ginny stood in the hallway for two whole minutes before making her way back to her room.
