At the Gryffindor table

~ @}~>~~

Harry and Ron stared on in horror as the new seventh year sat down next to Malfoy and started speaking haltingly but eagerly to Blaise Zambini. Dumbledore had introduced her to them earlier that afternoon and they’d been sure she would be in Ravenclaw or with themselves in Gryffindor.

To be more accurate, they’d come along when Dumbledore had asked Hermione to meet a transfer student as Head Girl and as a seventh year and show her around and get her more comfortable for her to begin classes with them the next day. From the expressions at the Head table this was an unexpected occurrence. She had certainly seemed bookish enough to join the cousins she had claimed in Ravenclaw.

Harry presumed the thought of having her in Gryffindor with them had just been wishful thinking brought on by an intense desire to know this strange girl. Ron elbowed Hermione who hadn’t looked up from her combined welcome speech/ lecture to the first years.

‘Oof, what was that for Ronald Weasley?!’ she prodded the redhead in the ribs before realising hat he was looking at ‘What the…? What’s Thera doing over there? With them?’ his hissed the last word in shock.
‘Dumbledore said I was meant to be her guide for the first few weeks until she gets her feet, how can I do that if she’s in Slytherin? How is she in Slytherin?’

Harry frowned at her in thought.
‘I don’t know. I’d say it must be a mistake, but surely the Sorting Hat doesn’t make mistakes. There must be something in her, she must be there for a reason…’ his train of thought drifted away at the idea of the new girl being evil somehow. She had been fairly quiet during their little tour, but friendly enough. She certainly hadn’t seemed at all bothered by Hermione’s divulging that she was a Muggle-born.

Ron seemed equally confused at the situation and seemed about to say something when Dumbledore stood up for his usual beginning of the year speech. All went quiet and thoughts were forgotten as the beginning of the school song rang out through the Great Hall.
