She’d seen inside the Malfoys’ vault at Gringotts once when Draco had to withdraw money for that term’s textbooks. It was impressive, but Hermione only shrugged if wide-eyed people asked her about his family’s fortune. The Galleons weren’t the real Malfoy family treasure.
If Draco had ever been afraid of his girl being a calculating witch, it vanished when he found her in the library at the manor, sitting on the floor surrounded by books. Her face was full of such happiness that Draco vowed then and there to do everything he could to make her look that way again.

“Malfoy, there you are! Professor Karminoff wants to know how our project is going, and I – oh!”
Hermione stopped short when the wind blew Draco’s hood back from his head. At first, she only stared dumbly at him.
“You don’t like it.” Disappointed, he tried to appear nonchalant.
“I didn’t say that.” Not caring that they stood right outside Asclepius Hall, in plain sight of everyone around, Hermione rose on tiptoe and pressed a kiss to the side of his neck. He shivered as her fingers combed through his now-spiky, short hair.
“It’s you, Draco,” she purred into his ear.
Ignorance
“He doesn’t know about their breakup.”
“That’s painfully obvious.”
They watched as Ron Weasley edged around the dance floor, eyeing the dark-haired witch in the silvery halter top. “He could beat up Theo, if it came down to it,” he observed.
“Ron wouldn’t do that!” Further comments became unnecessary as Nott entered the party with Cho Chang on his arm.
“He hasn’t seen.” Draco cupped a hand around his mouth. “OI! WEASEL! PANSY’S AVAILABLE NOW!”
All eyes turned to them, and Ron’s face went a violent shade of scarlet. Hermione sighed. Sometimes, she forgot that he was still a Malfoy.
June
“Come on, Granger. You’ve been there a few times already. We don’t even use that room anymore.”
Hermione shook her head. “I can’t, Malfoy.” Her eyes were watery. “Please, let’s not discuss this again.”
“Fine.” With a flourish, he tossed an antique key into her lap. “Then we’ll just have to crash at the Paris flat, because I want you to stay with me all summer. You can Floo to your internship. Now, I’m off to Potions lab.”
With that, Draco turned and strode away, whistling.
“You git,” she called, fondly.
“I love you, too,” he murmured under his breath.
Knockturn
Swiftly, Hermione ducked as her attacker flung a curse. From her crouching position, she threw a hex that sent him instantly to the ground. She stood up, looking around sharply. Onlookers quickly found something else to stare at.
Draco hadn’t even had time to drop the parcels he carried. “Damn, Granger,” he breathed, awed.
“I told you I can take care of myself.” She shrugged and took his arm again as if nothing had happened. They ignored the unconscious mugger, stepping around his body. He was impressed, and proud of her.
And he’d never been so hard in his life.
Loud
The first game of the term was upon them. The St. Viviane’s purple and white uniforms stood out boldly against the green of the pitch. Hermione and Luna waved pennants, cheering as the two teams zoomed into the blue sky above.
“Go Vultures!” yelled someone to their left.
“Take ‘em down!” another spectator called cheerily. “Show ‘em who’s boss!”
“NEUTER THE HELLHOUNDS AND FEED THEM THEIR OWN BOLLOCKS!” screamed Hermione, in a voice so shrill that people actually stared.
Luna blinked in surprise. “Well, you’ve certainly grown more enthusiastic about this ‘silly game’ since your boyfriend became Seeker,” she observed.
Music
Draco shut the door. Silently, he pulled his quarry from a drawer, inserting the disc as he’d watched Hermione do. With another look at the clock to be certain that she wasn’t due to return for another hour, he lay down and fitted the headset over his ears.
He lost track of time, and didn’t notice the door opening as he sang along. When he looked up, Hermione had her arms crossed and eyebrow raised.
“I know, I know -- Madonna is a talentless hag, and you were just trying to figure out how Muggles can enjoy something so trite, right?”
