Chapter 2- The Transformation

Severus Snape was sitting in his office glaring at the documents on his desk.  Thanks to the testimony of Harry Potter and memories from Albus Dumbledore at his trial, Snape had escaped imprisonment at Azkaban for his crimes.  The Ministry of Magic had even given him an Order of Merlin, First Class award for his “outstanding wartime actions” when it was revealed that he had actually helped save the lives of many of the students at Hogwarts that fateful year.  After this had been exposed, the Ministry had asked if he would stay on as the new official Headmaster, with Professor McGonagall as his deputy.  He tried to step down, but at the insistence of the Minister and McGonagall herself, he grudgingly conceded to stay on as Headmaster.  Now he was sitting in his office going over yet another transfer request from a student who wished to leave Hogwarts to go to Salem Academy in America.  With all these brats transferring, it’s a wonder we have enough students to reopen the school.  

As he stood up to go pour himself a glass of firewhiskey, the flames on his fireplace turned green and Lucius Malfoy stepped out, sweeping the soot off his otherwise pristine robes as he stepped further into Snape’s office.  

“Ah, Severus, I’m very glad to find you here.”

“Lucius, what can I do for you?  Please, have a seat.”  Severus wasn’t pleased to be taken away from his firewhiskey, but he couldn’t deny that he wasn’t happy to see his old friend.  He hadn’t had any time to visit with Lucius since his trial was over and he had been acquitted of all crimes, again thanks to Potter, and it would be a pleasure to catch up.

“I’m afraid there’s no time Severus.  Draco’s begun his first change, and Narcissa insists that you be there, just in case something goes awry.”  Severus immediately went to get his bag and threw some potions in it: pain potions for Draco and some calming droughts for Narcissa.  He hurried back to his fireplace, following Lucius through the floo to Malfoy Manor.

Once Severus had entered Malfoy Manor, he immediately heard the screams signaling that Draco’s transformation was well underway.  Following Lucius to the second floor of the house, the two men quickly made their way into Draco’s room.

Upon entering the room, the men made their way to Draco’s beside.  Severus rushed over to his bedside, shoving a calming draught into Narcissa’s hands as he began administering pain potions to help ease Draco’s pain.  Lucius gently coaxed Narcissa to drink the calming draught, and then pulled her away from the side of the bed, allowing Severus to more thoroughly examine Draco.

“I fear there isn’t much that I can do.  The transformation is going smoothly as of now, and unless his body tries to resist the changes, he will be fine.  I will stay and monitor him, but there is not anything else to do until he awakes.”  Severus looked at Narcissa in particular at this last statement, taking pity on the distraught mother.  Lucius looked at him and nodded, gently leading Narcissa from the room.  Severus sat down on the chair Narcissa had just vacated, settling in for the next few days to watch his Godson’s transformation.
