Eternally in Darkness
Chapter 2
Hermione's eyes fluttered open. She felt incredibly sore. She slowly sat up. She was in the hopsital wing. Looking around, she noticed Snape asleep in a chair next to her. She felt.. different. She took a deep breath, taking in all the smells around her. Since when does the castle smell this good, especially after what just happened. However, when she thought back to yesterday, things were a bit fuzzy. Wait a second, everything is fuzzy. She desperately tried remembering things, but had a hard time doing so. "Why can't I remember anything?" she whispered to herself. She got up from the bed and looked around. There was a mirror on the wall. She walked over taking a look in it.
The sight that met Hermione's eyes was not one she was familiar with. Hermione's tanned skin was more pale, like it was glowing. Her brown frizzy hair was now long, wavy, and golden blonde. That wasn't the worst part. She touched her eyes, unsure of if they were real or not. Her eyes were a blazing red. She tried to look away, but was unable. She swung her fist forward, smashing the mirror. The sound woke Snape up. Hermione stared at her hand, it was completely unharmed.
Snape took in the sight before him. Hermione Granger was, well, beautiful. Her hair was a golden blonde and her skin was like silver. Her eyes made him shiver though. She appears to have just smashed the mirror to bits. Oh dear.. she turned on him. Her eyes narrowed to slits. He took a deep breath and her eyes relaxed. "Why can't I remember?" she whispered.
He just stood there, staring. She grabbed onto his robes. "Help me Snape! Why can't I remember!" She tried crying, but she couldn't. Nothing was coming out. She collapsed to the ground, still holding onto his robes. "Why can't I remember?" Shaking her head. Snape picked her up and carried her back over to the bed. "Hermione..." he began. She nodded, wanting him to continue. "Yesterday was the battle." She nodded, "I know that. But what happened to me?"
Snape took a deep breath, he held her hands in his. "You were bit, Hermione, by a vampire. You've been turned." He looked into her emotionless eyes. "I see. So that's why I don't need to breathe, blink, and am unable to cry." He nodded. "Hermione.." She stood, her anger rolling off her.
"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS TO ME NOW!" Hermione began growling, full of anger. Dumbledore rushed in with Harry and Ron. "This is your fault!" She pointed to the headmaster and began stalking him. "Ms. Granger, I assure you, it isn't. No one is to blame, except your creator." She began growling even more, but Snape placed his hand on her shoulder. This calmed her, but she didn't know why. She turned to Harry and Ron but they stepped back. They were afraid of her.
"What happens to me now?" she whispered.
Dumbledore sighed. "What did you want to do after the war originally?" She sighed, looking around. "I wanted to teach, here at Hogwarts." She frowned, knowing that wasn't really a possiblity any more. Dumbledore closed his eyes in thought. "Perhaps you still could. Would the Potions position interest you?" Hermione nodded, her eyes full of hope. Snape however, was furious. "What about me? What am I supposed to do if she becomes a Potion Mistress." Dumbledore laughed, "I assumed you wanted to continue with DADA, did you not?" Snape opened his mouth in shock, the old man was seriously going to let him keep the position he has desired for years. He simply nodded unable to find words.
Dumbledore turned back to Hermione. "Well, Ms. Granger, you shall spend your summer controlling your thirst and abilities, Severus will help you of course, and if you've done a good job, the position is yours." She smiled, but Snape still didn't look too happy. Probably grumpy he has to spend all summer with me.
Hermione stiffened when the breeze came through. "The smell..." Her eyes darkened even more. Dumbledore, sensing what was wrong, shouted to Snape just in time. Hermione was just about to lunge out to Harry when Snape grabbed her by the waist and apparated them out of there.
With a pop they landed in the middle of the forest. Hermione turned on Snape, but she couldn't attack him, she didn't know why. Instead she turned, sniffing the air for something sweet. "Time for your first hunt." Snape said. She turned, her eyes full of worry. "I'll guide you, and make sure nothing bad happens. Don't worry." She nodded, smelling the air again. Once finding something, she took off in that direction, Severus trailing behind her.
