Chapter 2:

Chapter 2
I headed downstairs to the awaiting breakfast that was always in the kitchen no matter how many hours I spent bitching and complaining about not eating breakfast. I had just reached the bottom of the stairs and was heading towards the kitchen when someone knocked on the front door.
“I’ll get it!” I yelled into the kitchen as I turned on my heel and headed towards the front door, I opened it making sure that I had a wonderful smile on my face for whoever was on the other side of it, “Hello there, may I help you?”
“Yes you may, are you Celeste Dawn Aphrodite?” asked the very stern looking woman, who had crescent shaped glasses, as she read the name from a piece of paper.
“Ye…..Yes I am may I ask what you would like?” I asked the lady as my mother came to the door to see what was taking so long, “Hum mom this lady is here about me, she hasn’t said why yet but, she wanted to make sure that I was me and not some other kid.”
“Hi there I’m Maria Ann Aphrodite, her mother may I ask what this concerns and how it concerns my daughter?” my mother asked the lady as she stepped in between me and the stern looking lady.
“Yes if I may come in.” the stern looking woman said as she was lead into the sitting room she continued on talking, “My name is Professor McGonagall and I am the transfiguration teacher at a very special school called Hogwarts.”
“Wait a second your one of those kinds of people aren’t you?....aren’t you!” my mother started getting louder as she quickly jumped up off of the couch again from where she had just sat down.
“Yes I am a witch if that is what you are referring to.” McGonagall simply said as she let my mother go crazy and then calm back down again.
“They can’t take her back, they promised that when they gave her to me that they would leave us alone and would let us live in peace and not have to worry about them coming and taking her in the middle of the night!” my mother said and I was beginning to be able to tell the signs that my mother was seriously freaking out.
“Don’t worry Maria; I am not here to take her back from you.” McGonagall, “I am here to give her her letter to school. You did realize that she would be attending the school even though they gave her to you?”
“Well honestly I don’t know really anything about Hogwarts but that it is a school for witches.” Maria said as she sat down again.
“Well yes you are correct on that but, Hogwarts is so much more, it is a boarding school in which she will be staying at for 9 months out of the year, she will come home for a summer and winter breaks that is unless something drastic or horrible happens in which the student or students are allowed to return to their homes immediately, and she will be attending from now until she is at least the legal age, as a wizard that is, which is seventeen.” McGonagall started to explain things to my mother, “Hogwarts is also a school environment where she will be able to learn how to control her magic and also be able to make friends that are her same age that are at the same level of learning to control their magic. It is also a place where she can start to learn some of the responsibilities if she hasn’t learned the minor ones already.”
“It sounds like a wonderful place for her but, will she be safe there, I mean with all of the kids learning to control their magic is there ways that she won’t get hurt or someone there in case something bad happens during their learning?” My mother asked McGonagall starting to calm down a little bit.
“Of course there are times when our students get hurt, during learning to control there magic, that is why we have them learning in a school environment that is filled with the most experienced teachers that teach them different things about their magic, but of course we have a very skilled medi-witch which happened to have graduated from Hogwarts that has run our infirmary for the past couple of years.” McGonagall told my mother. “Rest assured Maria you will be putting Celeste in the best place possible for her to learn her magic if you decide to allow her to attend Hogwarts, which speaking of which sense we have not been able to get a hold of you until this close to the new school year, we have went ahead and purchased her things that she will need and have them at the school, since the train for this year leaves for the school at 11 o’clock sharp tomorrow morning.”
“Okay, thank you Minerva, I have some talking to do to my daughter and I guess we will see whether or not she attends Hogwarts tomorrow.” Maria said as she stood up from the couch.
“Yes well very well I look forward to maybe seeing you tomorrow for the opening ceremony after the train arrives, I hope that all goes well tonight and you are allowed to attend. I will see you then.” Minerva McGonagall said as she also stood up and made her ways towards the front door.
As my mother left the sitting room to show the Professor to the door I looked down at my hands that I hand laid in my lap and let my long hair wrap around my face so much that I didn’t even notice my mother come back into the sitting room and sit in front of me on the coffee table.
“Hey now what’s wrong? Why are you upset?” she asked me as she gently grabbed my chin and lifted it upwards so that I was looking at her.
“I don’t exactly know there is so much running through my head that I have no idea what to think, or say, or even do at this moment in time.” I tried to explain to her as I push my long hair out of my face and back to its rightful place behind my ears.
“Ok then let’s start with the thing that is the most on your mind, what’s on the most?”my mother asked me.
“Ok umm let’s see the thing that is most on my mind is who the heck was that women and what is this place called Hogwarts that she was talking about?” I told my mother as I looked up at her with confusion in my eyes.
“Ok the lady who was here is named Minerva McGonagall and she is a professor at Hogwarts, which is a boarding school. She is the Professor of Transfiguration.” My mother started explaining my question to me, “Hogwarts is a special boarding school for witches and wizards from the ages of 11 to 17, they start at 11 because that is when their magic seems to start manifest within the kids and they go till they are legal adults in the magical world which is at the age of 17.”
“Ok now on to the new thing that is on the top of my mind, what are a witch and a wizard and why am I supposed to go to this school?” I asked my mom getting more confused with each question instead of the other way around.
“Ok a witch is a girl with magic in her bloodline and a wizard is a boy with magic in their blood.” My mom told me, “Now as far as them wanting you to go to Hogwarts, which would be because you my darling daughter are a witch. Oh and did I mention that you can’t tell anyone that like me, that is who doesn’t have any magic in their blood about you being a witch.”
I don’t know what I was expecting to come from this conversation with my mother but, that was the last thing that I could ever expect to come from my mother’s mouth. I had been standing up but, when she said that I feel back down onto the couch again.
“Yo…..you mean I’m a witch…and that I have mag…..magic running with my blood through my veins? And then on top of that I can’t even tell anyone about it?” I asked my mother, trying to understand everything that was now buzzing through my mind.
“Yes darling you are a witch.” My mother told me.
“So I take it I am going to go to that school tomorrow first thing in the morning and have to stay in a place that I have never been before for 9 months?” I asked her, freaking out for 1 I have never had to stay in a place that I didn’t know anything about for 9 whole months and on top of that for seconds I have less than 24 hours to tell all of my friends and of course Michaela that I was going to have to leave for 9 months and that I can’t tell them why.
Before I realized what was happening I had stood up and ran out of the sitting room and straight down the hall to the front door, I jerked it open and then just took off running not knowing where I was going, or who I was going to see I just knew I had to get out of that house and away from my mother’s sweet understanding eyes. I stopped about three blocks away from my house where there was a nice little park at. I sat down at one of the benches and pulled out my cell phone. I quickly dialed in Michaela’s number and hit dial.
“Hey baby are you ok?” He asked me immediantely as soon as he answered the phone. “Hey love I need you to meet me down at the park by my house ok, ASAP I’m there already ok?” I told him as I laid down on the bench.
“Ok I’ll be there as soon as I can.” Michaela said as he hung up his phone.
As I waited for him to get to the park I took the quiet time to think about what had happened tonight and to make sense of all of the new information that I had learned not only of myself but, also of the world that I lived in.
*Great, and to think that my life was actually starting to get better and be somewhat normal, though I guess that I shouldn’t be surprised I mean sense when has my life ever even had a chance at being normal...*
I’m not sure exactly when Michaela showed up at the park because the next thing that I remembered was waking up in a nice warm soft bed. Then all of a sudden the memories of what happened last night came rushing back to me and I sat up now fully awake trying to find an alarm clock. When I didn’t spot one I rolled over and seen Michaela sleeping beside me. I quickly reached over and shook him like crazy.
“Michaela, Michaela come on wake up, come on get up I’ve got to go!” I said as I kept shaking him, it wasn’t very long before I had him fully awake.
“What’s wrong Celeste, calm down babe and tell me what’s wrong why are you in such a rush just call one of your friends and have them cover for you like they usually do.” He said as he tried to pull me back down to the bed again.
“No you don’t understand I have got to get home, because I have to leave my house to go to the train station by 10:30 and its already 9:45 so I really have to get going!” I told him as I stood up and look around for my clothes that he had taken off of me last night.
“Okay okay calm down I am going to take you to your house.” He said as he also got out of bed and through his pants back on again before yawning and grabbing his car keys.
I ran out to his car, not even noticing him mother and father or younger sisters who were sitting at the dining room table. By the time they pulled into her drive way it was 10:15 she quickly ran up the stairs to her bedroom and changed into a travel outfit and making sure she had her hair pulled up into a ponytail. She grabbed her duffel bag and through her favorite outfits (seven of them of course) into it, with as many multi outfit pairs of shoes she could fit before running back down the stairs to see her mother waiting by the front door.
“Hiya mom how are you this morning?” I asked her still trying to get my breath back.
“Cutting it kinda short wasn’t you?” she asked me as we headed out towards the car. We rode in silence the entire way to the train stain.
