Preparation

C2: Preparation

The Chamber of Secrets hadn't changed since he had left it.

Luckily for him, the sixty feet long Basilisk corpse was too poisonous to root.

It was still as 'fresh', as the moment he had slain it years ago.

It took Harry hours to render it to pieces.

As with every magical creature, no part of it was useless.

Potion indigriences, wand core materials and more, all highly sell-able, if he needed money, which he didn't.

His two main sources of income were selling pensives to Pickle, a member of Dumbledore's Order and potions to various others.

The one buying the most, was a crippled potions master.

While the one handed man was not able to brew any difficult potions any more, he was able to sell them to St.Mungo's, the Ministry and the apothecaries, all he had to do was vouching for their quality after of cause performing some basic tests, which his one, though badly shaking hand, was still able to.

The man increased the prices for St.Mungo's only ten percent – eight of which were for taxes – he wouldn't still have his left hand if not for the stubborn healers in St.Mungo's, willing to work on him for hours just so they could preserve his cut up and badly poisoned limb.

When selling to the apothecaries, he made much more, doubling the prices he needed to make a living after all.

The Ministry got to pay five hundred percent, they only bought Veritaserum and other restricted potions anyway – he had been crippled in an accident caused by a stray spell from a fight Aurors against Death Eaters crashing into the side of his potions lab in Knockturn Alley.

Harry made much more selling his potions through Mundungus Fletcher, another member of Dumbledore's Order.

'Dung' sold them on the black market taking ten percent.

The first and only time he tried to cheat him, Harry showed the man how stupid it was to try and cheat a Master Legilimens, locking him in his worst nightmares for an hour and promising worse, if it happened again.

It didn't but Dung started learning Occlumency.

The funny thing was, that most of these potions could also be bought at the apothecaries for much less.

It was surprising, how much people spent for birth-control-, pain-reliving- and healing-potions to someone not asking their name or to see their faces.

Given Harry got most of his indigriences from Neville, who had a really big greenhouse in his 'trunk' – the one Harry made for him and the Forbidden Forest – collecting them himself, it was a more than profitable deal.

When he was done, he put all the pieces into an storage trunk – insides heavily enlarged – and searched the chamber.

He found Slytherin's private library, although half of the books were missing – taken by Voldemort, he guessed.

He took the rest, nearly none of them were dark – because Voldemort had of cause taken all dark books.

He also found a bedroom , a potions laboratory and a training room – all of which he raided.

When he exited the chamber in a flash of black, there was nothing valuable left.

The next morning saw Harry at Ollivander's.

The wand-maker brought him into his workshop, after Harry asked him to.

There Harry showed the old man the things he had brought with him.

Rare core materials:

Basilisk heartstrings, scales, blood, bone and tooth, as well as Black Phoenix feathers and tears (which while not cores themselves, were used to enhance wands for healers).

Common core materials from the Forbidden Forest like Unicorn-tail hair as well as Hair, blood, bone and teeth of other magical creatures.

“Quite a collection you have here, Mr. Potter.”, Ollivander said, “The question which comes to mind seeing this would be, what service you want from me which would require a fee this great.”

“What I want from you, would be knowledge.”, Harry replied. “All you know about magic, including wand-creation.”

“I haven't had an apprentice in many years, but I don't think this is what you are talking about.”

“You are right of cause.”, Harry agreed. “What I want is you to agree to letting me view and copy your knowledge using Legilimency.”

“A very painful progress...”, Ollivander said, “I don't know if...”

“You are talking about Forced Legilimency like the Legilimency Users and -Masters employ. I employ natural Legilimency, also but wrongly called weak Legilimency. The difference is, natural Legilimency is unable to penetrate the memories of a a unwilling subject if the wizard or witch is capable of at least basic Occlumency. While there are ways to seduce the unwilling mind of a magically weaker Occlumens, it's a long and draining process were forced Legilimency breaks through their protections within a moment. In return natural Legilimency does not hurt or harm the subject at all, used on a willing wizard or witch, it is even pleasurable as well as much more effective and a Master Legilimens does not need eye contact to read surface-thoughts, this skill can't even be detected by the most skilled of Occlumens, it's nearly impossible to protect against and does not even require any conscious effort. In fact we need to concentrate, to not use this skill at any given time on everyone within a range depending on our magical strength.”

“A useful skill to have...”, Ollivander said.

“True. However most Wizards who employ Mind Magic prefer forced to natural Legilimency, simply because it's far easier to learn and once you've mastered one, you can't use the other, although every Forced Legilimency user can read surface thoughts with eye contact.”

“Why do you prefer natural Legilimency?”

“I learned of Legilimency through the knowledge of an Legilimens, who was reading my mind at that time. My first use of it was to craft artefacts creating a mind-speak connection to whoever wears them. Wiling mind-speak, while possible for both arts is a skill belonging to natural Legilimency and as I used it with more and more people connected, it evolved far past what any Forced Legilimency User could hope to archive. Imagine I can mind-speak to any person wearing one of these.”, the emerald eyed wizard said, showing Ollivander one of his amulets, “Regardless were they are, or what kind of wards they or I are behind. I even can relay thoughts from one of them to another or a group, effectively creating a mind-speak link for them. Even a Legilimency Master could not hope to mind-speak to more than two people at any given time using this method, much less relaying thoughts. At this very moment I relay no less than twenty-one conversations, mind-speak with three others, control a number of other artefacts and talk to you. This is what a Master Legilimens can do. Which would you prefer? The ability to Mind-Battle with Occlumens for their memories or this?”

“Natural Legilimency.”

On Harry's face blossomed a wide grin.

“Good choice, but we strayed from topic. Will you share your knowledge for these?”

“Yes, if it's not harm- or painful. I will however want to know of Natural Legilimency in return. As well as how to make such amulets. I know of young people who would like to learn wand-creation but for several reasons I'm unable to teach them. These mind-speak links would solve the problem nicely.”

“Or you could simply share your knowledge with them. It's not that hard to learn but way past the point were one can switch to Forced Legilimency. As for the Amulets, I would agree to create a dozen for you, but not to tell you how to make them.”

“Alright, that's fine with me.”

“How do you want them to look like?”, Harry asked.

“Plain a sparking wand engraved in front and Ollivander on the backside.”

“I'll return with them in an hour. We'll do it then.”, Harry said and with a flash of black was gone.

An hour later, he returned with the amulets as promised and they went to the workshop again.

“They only need a drop of your blood dropped on them to bond with your magic. The wearer and the bonded will be able to mind-speak, if the bonded has the required Legilimency skills for the enchantment to draw upon, it of cause needs skin contact with the wearer.”, Harry said, as he gave them to the old Wand-maker. “The Backside is enchanted to show the Family name of who it's bonded to. So you could give and bond them to others if you want. They can however only be bonded once. If the bond is broken – through the death of the bonded or damage to the amulet, I would of cause be able to re-shape and re-enchant them.”

Ollivander looked at the amulets in the small wooden case, before he sat himself on the stool in front of the workbench.

“How do we do this?”

The black haired wizard smiled.

“For sharing knowledge we need eye contact. Just relax, look into my eyes and I'll do the rest.”

The old wand-maker raised his eyes to the younger wizards and was immediately engulfed in the safe and powerful feeling of his mental presence.

A mere moment later, knowledge of Occlumency and Natural Legilimency streamed into his mind, as well as how to send, hear and relay thoughts using the amulets.

What felt like moments, but was actually several minutes later, the wand-maker returned from the mind-link no worse for the wear. It was indeed pleasurable.

“One last thing...”, Harry said, pulling the black phoenix amulet from his pocket again. “Would you agree to keep an eye open and tell me if you notice something suspicious? With Voldemort back, I can use all the help I get.”

Ollivander took the amulet, put it on and promised: “I'll keep my eyes and ears open.”, before he turned to his new wand-cores.

“Hmm... which shall I use first?”

“My suggestion would be the black Phoenix Feathers...”, said Harry, before he was gone in another flash of black, off to buy and collect a couple of things mainly the tools and wood needed to make wands himself, though not the 'the wand chooses the wizard' variant like Ollivander. He knew how to bond a wand to a wizard or witch – which had to be done during the creation process. Now that he also knew how to make them at all he could finally do it.
