Chapter Two

Hermione looked out to the foothills and mountains from the balcony, wondering not for the first time if Harry and the others were still searching for her. Why, she contemplated, were they even bothering. It wasn’t as if they gave a damn when she had found them in the bed. Their reaction had her all but screaming at the time. Since then she had lost whatever fury she had over what she had seen and now she was just lost.

Her best friend and her lover had seen fit to begin a relationship behind her back. This wasn’t as shocking as when she discovered that not only had Ginny known, but also had on occasion joined them in bed. And when Hermione became angry, they had turned it on her. Ron had called her a cold bitch and Harry said she was a prude. This was nothing compared to what Ginny had said. If she had been enough of a woman, they wouldn’t have strayed. But their relationship had never even gone there never mind involved another couple. Ron and she were barely to the step of going beyond the missionary position never mind that! And it had been he, not Hermione that had been reluctant to try new things. But did he bother to mention that?

Hermione had begun to leave with those words still stinging in her ears, telling them as she left that if this was what they wanted so be it. Ron tried to get her to stop, telling her that it wasn’t out of the ordinary for there to be triads of this sort.

She blinked at them saying, “You mean to say there are others that just openly accept being lied to by people they call friends and family…”

“Hermione…”Ginny started only to have Hermione hex her with a spell that had the girl hanging upside down and unable to speak.

“No, I’m going to have my say,” she told them. “You not only lied to me, but had the nerve to make it sound as if it were my fault. Fine, you’re a triad. And yes, I know they exist within the wizarding world and just how beautiful they are.” She looked at Harry who was blushing hotly. “I probably know more about them than the three of you combined. My problem is that you were supposed to be…” She got into Harry’s face and snarled, “My friends! My very good friends!” He tried to step back, but she punched him in the nose first. Turning to look over to Ron, who by this time was trying to step back away from her. “You used me and you expect me to be compliant to this? I am abused by your actions and I’m obligated to what? Rejoice?” A chair flew and crashed into Ron, making him hit the wall.

She turned and walked over to Harry, whose nose was now bleeding like a fountain and was trying as he might to get away from Hermione. It would have worked too if not for the sticking charm she put on his feet.

“Oh Harry, how I wish I could do something more hurtful to you than break your nose, but in all honesty it is you who are receiving the very short end of the stick in this matter.” She looked at the two youngest Weasleys. Ginny was trying to scream to let her down and Ron was out cold against the wall. “If one of them is bad enough, two is much worse.” She looked back over to Harry. “And there will come a day when you think that by me walking out as I have that I have cursed you in some way. But I have not, Harry, I have but given to you what you wanted—a simpering little mother’s boy and a spoiled brat.” She snarled and hit his chest with her index finger as she added, “You wanted them, and you got them—with every single thing that comes with those two. Enjoy.”

Hermione had walked away with only her wand and her Gringotts key, wanting to have nothing more to do with anything or anyone in that house. The first thing she did was go straight over to Remus, as she didn’t want him or Sirius to hear what had happened from anyone else other than her. She had shown them her memory, telling them that she was going to be leaving for a time.

“You can’t let this get to you,” Sirius told her, as he rocked her back and forth as one would a child.

“I ignored what I needed,” she breathed. “I took what was expected of me instead and I…” She sobbed against his shoulder. “I don’t know what to do.”

Remus rubbed her back as he breathed, “Please, love, it’s not as bad as you think. Ron wasn’t right for you and you know it. You’ve known it for a long time.”

“B-but I don’t even think he’s gay! I think he’s in a r-relationship with Harry and Ginny for the bank!” she sobbed. “J-just you see.” But then sobbed again admitting, “Oh I don’t know! I’m just so upset!”

This had Sirius growling in anger. “They’ll have to sign prenuptial agreements. It was in the will. I made certain of that.” Both Remus and Hermione looked over to him a little stunned he should have thought of doing as much back before Harry was more than a baby. “I may not have been a Slytherin, but I was raised by several generations of them. You learn to be paranoid young when that happens.” Sirius combed her hair out of her face. “What are you going to do?”

“I don’t know,” she breathed, feeling broken and battered. “I thought they were more than just my friends. I thought of them as family. And they, apparently, saw me as a doormat.” Hermione worried her lower lip and murmured, “Leaving England is as good a place to start as any.”

And so the two men helped her go to somewhere for Hermione to heal her wounded heart. So she was in the last place she would have ever thought of going all in the attempt to put her life back to rights.

And there was chapter two! Cookies go out to zairaphel for knowing that the "Archie" reference was to Archie Goodwin of Nero Wolfe fame. I love those books. Excellent writing done in the first person. I recommend it to anyone that calls themselves a fan of mystery writing. Thanks and have a great day!
