SIX YEARS LATER

Hermione smiled at Draco, “It’s finally here.”

“Yeah graduation. I for one am tired of school. How ‘bout you?”

She nodded, then laughed. “Wow, I never thought I’d agree to that. So are you going back to England to take over the family business?”

“Yea. I may as well, it’s a ready job. Though I may put in for a position in the Ministry. What about you?”

She shrugged. “I think I’ll stay over here. Too many bad memories for my taste. I’ll be heading to New York next week and applying for a position at the Ministry there.” she reached over and hugged him. “Thank you for everything Draco. You’ve been a truer friend then most.”

“You’re welcome, though for a while I was sure Ced was going to hex me every time I looked at you.” she laughed and looked down at her left hand where a diamond ring sat gracefully. “Don’t forget to send me the invitation once you have the date set. I better be the best man on either side.”

“If you’re not his I’ll hex him myself.” she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek. “I better get into my spot.”

Draco sighed as she walked past inhaling the cinnamon scent of her perfume. How could he ever be at their wedding? It would hurt too much maybe he could say something with his job got in the way.

Hermione frowned a bit as she took her seat not too far from the front. She loved Cedric she really did but what if she was making the wrong choice? She mentally shook her head. No she was going to marry Cedric no matter what. She deserved happiness and if he could provide that with his quirky ways then so be it. She couldn’t sit back and hope for someone else to come to their senses. She’d been through too much in her past to deal with anymore disappointment. She pushed any negative thoughts away and concentrated on the here and now. She needed to get past graduation and get a job and plan a wedding, she didn’t have the time or privilege to waste on negative things.

An hour after graduation Hermione, Draco, and Cedric were sitting at their favorite burger joint, going over plans for the years to come. “Will you come for Christmas, Draco?” Hermione asked slightly pleading. She didn’t think she could go that long without seeing him.

“I don’t know I’ll try to as long as you magic the food or order it. I don’t think I could sit through another one your home cooked meals.” she laughed and punched him in the shoulder.

“Hey her food isn’t that bad.” Cedric supplied.

“You’re supposed to sat that you’re her fiancé. I’m only her enemy turned friend I have to be honest. If you’re honest you don’t get any.”

Again Hermione punched his arm. “Shut up you ass. Gosh we may be friends now but you sure as hell haven’t changed.” She stood up from her seat and pushed her chair in. “I’ll see you guys later. I need to go pack for New York.” she apparated out.

Draco turned back to Cedric. “You better make sure you don’t do anything to hurt her, or I’ll come back over here and break your neck. I may not have been her friend that long but she is my friend and I will not have you hurt her.”

Cedric laughed. “What’s it matter to you? You don’t love her like I do.”

“So you don’t mind moving to New York if she gets the job she wants?”

Cedric furrowed his brows. “What do you mean? She’s just going there for a three month internship, she said she would flooing back and forth.”

Draco laughed. “You don’t know her as well as I do. She may be going for that but she’ll be hired and want to stay. So are you willing to move there if and when that does happen?”

“But what about my job? What about my life here?” Ced said with a frown. “How can I give up what I’ve worked hard for?” He had graduated two years before them and already gotten the job of his dreams.

Draco shrugged. “You must not love her that much. But I’m sure if you voice your concerns she’ll listen and give up her opportunities for you.” he knew it was wrong but he was intentionally trying to sabotage this wedding before there was one. “I mean if I loved someone I would want to give up everything to make them happy, but whatever, man.”

Cedric frowned. “I need to go talk to her.” he apparated away.

Draco smiled to himself and finished his meal before apparating away to his apartment. He started packing his bags for his trip next week and once he was finished he decided to head out to the club.

A/N: let me know what you think. I had to bring back a lil bit of the old Draco. Love him or hate him he is who he is.
