Chapter 2
Chapter 2 - The Leaky Couldren.
"Diet coke, please." Was all I got out before the barman laughed in my face. I had walked a million miles from the nearest tube station and had a really bad time trying to find the door, for someone to laugh in my face at a perfectly normal drinks order. I was irritated and concerned I had wandered into the wrong Leaky Couldren when a familiar huff of stressed panic came from behind me.
"I\'m so sorry, I was meant to get here before you but the port - bus I was meant to get came and left really early." He had walked from the door and to my side during his little speach and he\'ll never know how in that moment he was my knight in shining armour. Here to save me from the laughing Tom and his lack of diet coke. I was so relieved by his presence in the dark dingy little pub that I didn\'t even realised he hadn\'t emerged from the same door as I did, he had entered from a door marked Toilets. Just one of the many missed signals I would have until the big reveal later that day. "Tom, she\'ll have a water and I\'ll have a Butter Beer."
"Umm, Hi?" I said as he lead me to a table as far away from the other patrons as he could possibly get. I watched as he gave the other people in the pub little looks. They were all looking at him with a strange awe. Like they weren\'t trying to make it obvious that they were watching him ut it was becoming increasingly more obvious that they were.
"Hi," he beamed at me, finally relaxing. "Did you find the place ok? It can be hard for mug - it\'s just quite hard to find." He said, stumbling over his words as the barman came over with our drinks.
"Yeh, found it fine. Googled it; lot of weirdos know about this place." I said, leaving out the part about it being hard to approach and then really difficult to find the door. In retrospect, I always wonder if he knew what I meant when I mentions Google. He just politely smiled and nodded vaguely.
We laughed and shared stories about our lives and what we did. He had 4 brothers and a neice. I asked him about his large family and he gave all the non magical facts willingly skipping around the parts like My father is obsessed with non magical stuff and My brother doesn\'t have an ear because it was spelled off during a fight on a flying broom. He made the right decision. I told him about my Mum, my Dad and my big brother. My cats got a lot of air time and I spoke emphatically about my love of books and learning and how I wanted to become a teacher. He told me that he knew someone that I\'d get on with perfectly and that she was a teacher.
It wasn\'t until 4 hours later when Tom was closing up and throwing out some of the obviously all-too-regulars that we realised how much time had gone by. We had talked, like I hadn\'t with anyone in years and once we really got into our conversation he really relaxed and was funny, if a little strange. he had really nice skin and his hair was the perfect shade of ginger. It was a little darker than garish but at the same time made him stand out. I loved it.
I was falling for him. I know thats weird, we\'re married and we\'ve had children and things going too fast has worked for us but I know how incredibly rare that is.
"I\'m going to have to tell you something in a minute." He said, he\'d tensed up again and a small blush was working it\'s way along his cheekbones. "I mean, we\'ve only known eachother 3 days and I already know that I\'m going to fall for you." I wanted to interupt him and tell him how brilliantly insync we were and how I was thinking the same thing but he just looked so terrified. A look that scared me to death and then 3 words that would change my entire perspective on life. "I\'m a wizard."
"Errrr, ok?"
I\'m not lieing, I honestly said that. I didn\'t believe him but I saw this thing on the Real Lives channel, that if you agree with a psycho that they won\'t kill you as fast. I saw that episode of How to Escape an Axe Murderer over and over in my head and I let the well stored information wash my brain from any of the love I had felt prior to his confession. This had taken a while and he looked like he was going to throw up.
"Humour me?" This was when I realised that I was going to fall desperately in love with him, because I did. I let him take my hand and I was lead dumbly to the door marked Toilets where he took out a long peice of light wood and tapped the door knob. I watched as he pulled me through the door and waited for when he was obviously going to take out a gun and shoot me in the head. But all he did was take the peice of wood and tap it on some bricks on a wall that I hadn\'t even realised was there and nearly collapsed as the wall folded away to reveal a street. I once went to Duhram to see a friend from college who was at University there and I\'ve always thought that Diagon Alley looks a bit like the road that leads up to the St.Chad\'s College halls.
"So I\'m going crazy?" I said to him as he pulled me down the cobble stones that were lined with cramped little shops and lead to what looked like a small palace.
"No, this is Diagon Alley." He said, laughing a little, obviosuly even more relaxed than before now out of the pub. "...and I have a lot to explain."
"Yeh." I had no other words.
"Do you want me to take you somewhere less crowded for this explanation?" He said, taking his hands either side of my face and look me in the eye. He had my undivided attention and even though at that moment I was more scared then at any other time in my life, I would have done anything if he would have kissed me in that moment. But he didn\'t, and I\'m glad because when he did it was spectacular and at that moment I was far too stunned to have noticed the way his nostrils flared and how his toungue practically begged entrance into my mouth.
"Uh, ok."
He took my hand again and lead me to the door of a purple shop. I didn\'t notice when a flying ball of fuzz hovvered around my head or when a hollagram of a very old man turned into a very young man just to my side. I didn\'t pay attention to anything until I was spoken to.
"Uh, are you alright?" A tall and brilliantly handsome older man asked from the counter. He had a beige cardigan and a white tshirt on and some very old fashioned look glasses in his hand. He looked caringly at me and as though he felt sorry for me. I looked at him for a long moment.
"Not really, no."
Percy looked at my horrified.
"Would you like to go home?" He asked with a worried look on his face, he looked like I might slap him and run. I personally though that my hand was too tightly holding his for me to do anything of the sort but he always was a worrier. When Arthur first went off to Hogwarts, he didn\'t sleep for a week.
"I don\'t know. Where am I again?"
"Diagon Alley and this shop is Weasley\'s Wizarding Wheezes."
"So, do you own this shop?"
"Nah, Perce\'s too uptight for our line of work. This place belongs to me." Another boy had been stood there the whole time and I hadn\'t even noticed. he was looking at me like I couldn\'t be real and I was look at him with the same expression. "Godric Percy, how the hell did she go for you?"
"\'Cos he\'s smart and funny and he has really nice eye lashes." I said without thinking, A sentence I was be ridiculed about for nthe next few weeks and something that Severus would Receit at our wedding.
"Leave them alone, Fred." The nice man at the counter said, giving me a smile and then looking at Fred like he would be punished later. He probably was, they always were a couple of little words.
"Come on," Percy sighed as he took me up the red stairs and through a quite generic above shop flat, I was living in one similar at the time. Which helped me to relax into the amount of information I was about to receive.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So, let me get this right..." I said sitting with my legs croassed on the sofa of what turned out to be his twin brothers\' flat. We had sat down with a cup of tea and he had explained everything. First, why he was in Soho Square and then elaborated on the information I needed or that story and then about his family. "You are a wizard and there are lots of wizards, like more wizards than I could probably imagine?"
"Mmhhmm."
"And you work for the Ministry of Magic which is like the government that helps to run your world and keep it a secret."
"Mhhmm"
"And three years ago there was this massive war where people in your family died and lots of other people too?"
"Y-yeh." I could see that me even talking about it really hurt. By what he said, it happened well over two years ago but if my Mum had died I wouldn\'t ever get over it. I\'m not over it. "The only thing is I needed to tell you early on because well... my family are really close. We were close before the war but after it well, we\'re all in eachother\'s lives. It\'s a bit incestuous but not actually incestuous. I love them but they are always in my life and are who I most socialise with so - "
"So, I needed to know everything because if I was going to stick around I would be meeting them very quickly and very regularly." I understood. My Mum once told me that if I spent more time in my head and less in everyone elses that I would be getting a first and not a 2:1. I seem to be the person that understands people and clicks with others very quickly. I knew what he meant because my family are the same. We haven\'t been through a great war but my Uncle and Auntie and my cousins and my family are all in the same boat and my Mum and Dad\'s bestfriend from school and stuff is like family so I got it. I saw a lot of similarities in our family. Fuck lot of differences too though.
"You\'re a bit perfect." He said smiling at me, the tears in his eyes still there but just made his eyes look more happy.
"Can we come in now please?" Came a muffled cry from the next room.
"If you\'d like." He called back sounded exasperated but still beaming at me.
"So now that you\'re initiated want to meet the whole gang?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Took me like three tries to get this one right.
