Chapter Two: Trust Me
(*Quick edit- but I am in the process of securing a Beta, I am rubbish at editing my own writing.)
The château was beautiful. The sea rested just beyond the balconies. The rooms were decorated elegantly but lacked the touch of a well lived in home.
The chambers she had been given were something out of a fairy tale. The large white doors opened into a sitting room complete with fireplace. Another door opened into a bedchamber and private bath. Everything was soft, feminine and decadent.
Currently she was sitting in a sun parlor having a light summer supper of bread, cheese, fruit and wine.
“Mal…Draco, as much as I understand what is happening I don’t understand why.” Hermione looked down at her napkin.
“The fates decided my dear. I for one am thrilled you were chosen for me. You are brilliant, lovely and someone who will keep me on my toes.” He smiled fondly at her as she blushed at the compliment.
His entire being longed for her. He already knew that his heart and soul belonged to her. She had complete control over him now, and his heart sang because of that fact.
“But we hated each other for years, called each other horrible names. Even after your family switched sides during the war, we never once said a kind word to one another.”
She was so nervous. She was never a romantic per say, but she had hoped she and the man she dedicated her life to would have a foundation of friendship to build upon, not one of childhood malice. Fated or not, could they build a relationship from the stones of their past?
Draco moved closer to his mate. “I must ask your forgiveness. I treated you in a way that is inexcusable but I would beg your pardon.” His hand reached up to cup her flushed cheek.
“Gods, am I going to wake up from this?” she asked.
“No my darling, I am sorry to put you through this?” Draco stroked his thumb along her jaw line.
“I do forgive you Draco, for the past. This mating you had no control over.” She looked up the small smile on her lips not reaching her eyes.
“Thank you,” he moved to gently kiss her cheek.
Draco pulled away and his gaze stopped on her full lips. His thumb moved the short distance from her jaw to her lip and brushed over the pouting flesh. He felt her sharp intake of breath.
“Will you let me feed you?” he asked.
“What?”
“It is part of the ritual, let me give you nourishment. By letting me, you’re offering me your trust.”
Hermione could not move her eyes away from his beautiful pale eyes that sparkled in the late evening sun. She felt like she had lost all rational thought as she opened her lips for his gift.
She wrapped her lips around the plump grape and took the juicy fruit into her mouth. Draco smiled as she savored the treat.
He picked another morsel and brought it to her mouth. This time her teeth scrapped along the sensitive pads of his fingers- he growled softly.
Hermione felt her skin prickle at the sound. She felt the noise travel through her body and settle in her stomach. She had never felt anything like that before.
She suddenly felt the need to feed him too- an overwhelming urge to care for this wizard she hardly knew and had not seen in two years.
Hermione picked up a piece of cantaloupe and lifted it to Draco’s smiling lips. He took the dripping fruit between his teeth and made sure to lick all the excess juice off her long thin fingers.
They continued the ritual until the tray was empty.
Neither spoke for a few moments. The air around them seemed charged with energy.
“So what of my apothecary?” She asked- she was off balance due to the adoration she saw in his eyes and wanted move onto a neutral topic.
“If you will allow me, I know of a Potions master who would be willing to run the Apothecary while we are, otherwise engaged.”
“Whom?”
“My godfather Severus.”
“Professor Snape would be willing to watch over my Apothecary?”
“Well Hogwarts is not in session and you were always one of his favorite students.”
“Thank you, I would be honored.”

Not long after supper Draco led Hermione to her suite. With a chaste kiss on the cheek he bid her goodnight and disappeared to his room down the hall.
The second she was alone in her rooms the reality of the entire situation hit her like a rampaging Chinese Firebolt.
She was mated to a mythical creature- who was Draco Malfoy- her childhood enemy-who kidnapped her and took her to France- who feed her dinner-
She started to pace and her breathing went jagged.
What in the name of Merlin was she going to do?
She didn’t even really know what a Gancanagh was. If there was one thing Hermione Granger hated, it was not knowing.
She started making a circuit around the rooms. Her mind was racing, she felt dizzy, she needed the library, there must be a book there that could explain all of this.
Just as she was about to barge out the door Draco appeared and wrapped his arms around her trembling body.
Draco had felt her panic and fright from all the way down the hall. He thought she would eventually calm down and go to bed, but when he felt the near panic attack setting in, he decided he had to step in.
“Shhh love, let me help you.”
“I…don’t…” she hiccuped.
“Let's go to the library and I will get you all the books we have on my kind.”
He brought her to the library and settled her on one the couches while he fetched all the volumes they had on Gancanaghs.
He sat next to her and piled the books on the table.
“Take your pick.” He smiled as he watched her take the top book on the pile and started flipping through the pages.
~~
Hours passed and she finally fell asleep from exhaustion. She was curled up on the couch- her head on his chest, her arms clutching the last box from the stack.
He carefully moved his fingers through her curls. He felt completely at peace with her coiled around him. She had calmed once she had gone through all the literature and had a better understanding of the conditions of the ritual.
They had already exchanged trust but there was so much more before he could claim her.
Draco draped a blanket over them and he drifted off to sleep making plans to seduce the witch in his arms.

A/N Thanks for all the reviews- I do not really know where this plot bunny is going so I am letting the muse lead the way :-)
Cheers,
