Chapter 2

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling and various publishers do. I am making no profit from this. Rating: NC-17 Pairing: Remus/Severus Warnings: Sex, profanity, not epilogue compliant, slash, and a small dash of angst Author's Notes: Sorry this took so long to get out! I hope you enjoy this chapter and all the information in this chapter about doppelgaengers I made up myself for the purpose of this story. Why One Should Not Have Sex In front of a Mirror Chapter 2 It wasn't hard to figure out where the rainbow clad doppelgaenger was in the school, all Severus and Remus had to do was listen for his high pitched giggles and screams of terror from the students. "Stop that thing!" Severus bellowed down the hallway, students and other teachers alike scrambling to the sides of the corridor, not daring to get in the way of an enraged potions master with his wand drawn. "That man has illegally entered Hogwarts, he is dangerous and must be detained at all costs!" Remus's message did a lot more good, soon more and more students were firing spells at the creepy Snape look a like. The look a like seemed to be able to dodge or dance out of reach with uncanny grace. Even several teachers in the halls attempted to slow down the prancing imposter, but only hit students as he narrowly avoided the spells, having no qualms about using them as human shields. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on who retold the tale, Harry and his troop of friends were walking back to the Gryffindor tower at that exact moment. "What the bloody hell is going on?" Ron, rather loudly, muttered as he became jostled back and forth by the retreating crowd. Both Harry and Hermione had similar looks as they all grabbed onto another when the horde became particularly active, spreading to the sides of the passage. Only the golden trio was left in between the multicolored nightmare and the rest of Hogwarts. On a wind of luck, Remus spotted Harry and his friends standing rather dumbstruck in the middle of the hallway, a perfect position to hit Severus's doppelgaenger, "Harry stop that man, he's dangerous!" The command snapped Harry from his bewilderment and into action. Using reflexes honed from Quidditch and battling Voldemort so many times, he whipped out his wand and aimed. Using the unnatural grace Severus 2 displayed before, he spun out of the way of Harry's silent spell, leaving Severus 1 to dodge the Stupefy now barreling down the hall. "25 points to Gryffindor for being such a doll!" The doppelgaenger announced taking Harry's hands into his. Severus snarled in frustration as Remus physically held him back from blasting his evil twin while in range of his silently thought of nephew. Harry couldn't move if he wanted to, his entire body was paralyzed with flabbergasted distress as this glorified beauty commercial Snape dodged his spell as if it were a mere trifle. And awarded his house points no less! "And so good with a wand too!" Severus 2 giggled gaily, one of his fingers lightly stroking Harry's holly wand up and down in a very suggestive fashion. He turned his heated gaze full onto Remus, slowly licking his lips, "you must be extravagant with a wand too! I do dearly want to find out if you would let me." The werewolf couldn't help but blush under the intense gaze that his lover's doppelgaenger was sending him. It was strange, and rather flattering, to be the object of such open affection. As much as he loved his Severus, it was slightly disappointing that he never did anything affectionate in public. "You stay away from him you narcissistic cur." Severus growled so low Remus almost didn't catch it. New warmth blossomed in Remus's chest, one so protective and caring that it completely washed away the previous feeling invoked by Severus 2. While not a public declaration of love, his mate wasn't willing to roll over at let this charlatan have his way. The other Severus must have somehow heard the statement, or had some knack of reading lips, for the come hither look twisted into some ugly feral grin, "you know I can't do that sweetie. I will have him by the end of this day." A small wave of the hand announced his departure as he fled down the hall and around the corner. Severus was just about to hunt down his twin until the voice of the Headmistress stopped him short. "What is going on here!" It was more of a demand then a question, but no student had the courage to respond. It was Remus who finally spoke up after he took Severus in his arms. "Somehow Severus's doppelgaenger came through the mirror in my bedroom and is now roaming through the halls of Hogwarts, handing out house points." He felt Severus shaking from either rage or embarrassment over the situation; Remus felt it was a combination of both. He could only sympathize with the humiliation his lover must be feeling of learning that his doppelgaenger was a raging queen and running around for everyone to witness. "Both of you to my office right now!" Minerva spun on her heel, fully expecting both men to follow her back to her office. Both men stayed rooted in their spot, with the same exact question on their mind. "And who is going to go after my doppelgaenger?" Severus sneered out first, not happy at all to let that gaudy maniac roam around the school freely. Remus nodded his head in agreement, the wolf itching to chase after the twin. "I will have other teachers pursue but not engage this evil twin. So far he seems to be doing more good then harm for the moment. Should he cause harm to anything, the professors have all rights to detain him." She waved to one of the teachers left in the hallway to go and find the creature. The man nodded, grabbing a fellow co-worker and running around the corner. Severus straightened himself out, brushing away invisible dust from his robes as he grudgingly followed the headmistress to her office on the fourth floor. Remus quietly chucked behind his lover as he heard the grumbled threat, "I'm not quite sure who would come out of that scuffle alive, and I give them three minutes tops." ** The office remained much the same when Minerva took over, many metal odds and ends all over the place, some not even leaving their original spots. Fawkes's perch has long since been removed and the candy dish off in some corner. The most noticeable change was books and parchment were methodically organized and in their proper places. "I don't wish to know the details of why you two were in front of the mirror, I would like to know how he got into the school though." She fixed both with her patent stern gaze, making Remus scuff his feet against the floor and look at his knees while Severus glared right back at her sitting straight and proud. "We are not quite sure how that happened, we just kind of looked over and he was in the bed next to us." Remus offered, it was about as true as he could make it without adding the extra details that she did not want to know. "I have a theory about this. Since he is in fact my twin in every sort except for taste, personality and tact, the wards in the school must have let him in recognizing the magical signature already. It is the only explanation since the school awarded the house points he gave out." Severus pointed to the sand filled jars right behind the old witch. The red sand in fact was a little higher then before. "How do we put him back in the mirror where he belongs? I must confess to having limited knowledge on doppelgaengers. Remus, do you have any knowledge of this?" She spoke in a soft voice, looking at the defense professor expectantly. "I confess to having some but I doubt enough to actually capture him back into the mirror. From what I have read doppelgaengers can only roam in this plane for the span of the day that they entered. Since he came into our world so late into the evening, he only has about 5 more hours left before he is pulled back into the other world." Remus sighed, letting his head rest on the backing of his chair. There was a lot of trouble that evil twin could get into in the span of 5 hours. "We must capture him before then! Who knows what damage he will do." Severus finally barked, getting up from his seat. He began to pace around the room, his brain going into over drive of ways to capture his wayward doppelgaenger but coming up with nothing. Surviving in that realm had turned him into a formidable opponent, one who did not mind using anything at his disposal. "Did you not hear Remus Severus? All we need to do is make sure this copy of yours does nothing harmful and at the stroke of midnight the doppelgaenger will be banished back to his realm." She graced Severus with an exasperated look, almost pleading with him not to make this a big event. "Yes...at the stroke of midnight." Severus gave in, his shoulders dropping as he heaved a quiet sigh. Remus laid a hand on his lovers shoulder, a small gesture of comfort. The humiliation must be worse then he thought if Severus was so willing to give in without a fight. Normally it would be several fights and close to hexs being cast before Minerva and Severus could agree on something of Severus's life. It was only the lack of better prospects, and Remus pleading with him, that got Severus to take up his teaching career again. Thought not without a few added benefits of course. "Why don't Severus and I keep an eye on the doppelgaenger and if we can banish him back to the mirror early then it is an added perk?" Remus stood in between the headmistress and Severus, already sensing the quarrel that would come from his suggestion. Minerva seemed to slowly roll the idea over in her mind, her facial expressions clearly showing her feelings of the schemes that played out from it, "Alright I shall let you pursue him. But, you are under the same orders as all the other teachers! We only just made the finishing touches on this school, I don't want to have to remodel anymore rooms or hallways." "We promise to do everything in our power not to unnecessarily damage the school Headmistress." Remus smiled as he quietly ushered his mate out of the office. Thankfully Severus waited until they were out in the deserted hallway before he exploded. "What were you thinking you blunder head! We need to detain and banish that atrocity at all costs before midnight! Leave it to your dormant people pleasing nature to rear its ugly head up again at the wrong time!" The werewolf closed his eyes and let out a long deep breath. It would do no good to rise to Severus's insults, especially since they were made in the irritation of the situation and not at him, 'I really need to teach him better ways of venting his anger.' "Mate we will do everything possible to banish him to the darkest depths of hell if we can. I can only imagine how frustrating this is for you, but please calm down." Remus was exceedingly pleased when Severus relaxed in his embrace. "You are right, I must think with a clear head if we have any chance of capturing him." Severus lightly returned the embrace before backing off. With a nod, Severus was striding down the corridor, trusting that his partner would follow. 'And maybe warm you up to the idea of public affection,' Remus smiled at his thoughts, lightly jogging to catch up and imagining the lovely ass the black robes were hiding. It took over an hour before either one of them were able to find any traces of Severus's doppelgaenger. Remus's heightened sense of smell was pointless, the twin did not give off a scent, at least while he still could not permanently exist in this world. Remus tried to listen for him, but there was still too much ambient noise in the castle for him to clearly pin point an exact location. Better eyesight was not much help either; the man's wardrobe almost glowed in the dark with how bright it was. Severus was also becoming more and more anxious, and expressing it vocally. "To scared to come out and face us now! Guess staying in that world for so long made you only better at running away!" "Severus, I don't think taunting your evil twin will make him come out faster." Remus sighed leaning against one of the walls in the semi circle alcove him and Severus decided to regroup in. "If he has any sort of resemblance to me he will appear to defend himself from those accusations." The potions master glared at his lover, expecting such knowledge to be obvious. "For once you are right my darling bitter twin. I could not stay hiding in that room while listening to you reprimand this hunk of a man." Severus 2 spoke while leaning against the only doorway in the room, his hungry eyes never leaving Remus. "Please stop with such comments, as you know I am already involved with someone." Remus's glare hardened further with every step the doppelgaenger took towards him. Glaring turned into visible shaking as the creature wrapped his arms around Remus's neck. "I know, but you would be better off with me who will love you properly and give you all the affection you need. Inside and outside of bed." Severus 2's mocking look slid over towards Severus 1, a wicked smile lighting up his face. Severus started storming over with his wand drawn, ready to blast his evil twin from the face of the planet. A quick look from Remus stopped him in his tracks, but did not stop him from glaring. "And how do you know that I don't get proper affection from him? You have only been in this world for a little bit." Remus looked smug, and Severus 2 looked smug back. "I have been spying on you two for a while through the mirrors. It is pretty obvious to me Remus that he doesn't make you happy. I've been able to see those disappointed looks you give when no one else is watching." Remus looked at the creature that was clinging to him in shock. It was true that the several times he tried to be affectionate outside of their room with his lover they were all turned down. He knew Severus was an overly private man and did not like the public knowing much about him, but it still hurt to be denied something as simple as holding hands. "Then date the Remus in your world if you want him so much." Severus 1 sneered, glowering pure death at his twin. "Oh I did try to date the Remus in that world after seeing how happy you looked twin dear. But that Remus is such a brute! He's so mean too, won't go shopping or pamper me the way I am suppose to! He cared more about his bike then he did me. You would get along well with him, after all you are filled with unattractive anger." The doppelgaenger pouted, batting his eyes up at Remus, "you on the other hand are perfect for me. Affectionate and loving, you also don't say no to often! And I can give you all the affection you could ever want." "You are going back to your world at midnight, and I am not very good with long distance relationships. Even with the, bountiful incentives you are offering me." Remus's voice was that of comforting a crying child, but his eyes held a look of cold steel. "You don't have to worry about a long distance relationship, I'm not going anywhere! I told you when we first met; I am the real Severus Snape. That one over there is the real doppelgaenger." The twin motioned back to their audience. Remus waited for the retort from his lover, a raging outburst of slander and he was the real Severus. When no sound came, slowly Remus's eyes followed the accusing finger to the form of his mate. "Severus he is lying, right?" Remus barely managed to squeak out, seeing his lover pale as parchment, his eyes that of a terrified doe found off guard. After several quiet moments Severus finally spoke. "No he is not, I am the one who will go back through the mirror at midnight." "Well," the real Severus clapped behind Remus's back, "now that we have this all settled I want my kiss!" Remus was in to deep of a state of shock to stop the kiss; he just kept blankly staring at the place his lover used to be. ** Severus had no idea how long he sat on the bed in their shared room, looking at the beat up antique mirror Remus always refused to get rid of. He knew the fate that was coming closer for him with every chime of the clock. But in preparation for accepting his new future, he forgot what the clock chimed last. It was a cold comfort knowing that he had not already passed through the mirror just yet, maybe Remus was waiting till the end to say goodbye. It would be typical Gryffindor nature. Tentatively fingers reached out again, millimeters from brushing the cool reflective surface. The hand dropped back down to his side when the door opened, a very tired and disheveled Remus looking at him appeared in the mirror. "This is where you went, I have been looking all over the castle for you." Remus spoke softly, sitting next to Severus on the bed and looking into the mirror. "I figured this was the most ironic place for me to accept my fate, it is also the shortest walk to the mirror when it finally strikes midnight." Surprised Remus looked over at his lover, those wonderful black eyes that he adored staring into lost their passion and became dulled around the edges. "What are you talking about? Who says you are going to be the one to go back when we still have 3 hours before it's midnight." "You're going to choose him, leaving no place in this world for me. And two versions of the same person cannot exist in one world for long. So if one of us doesn't go back, the world's original person stays by default." Severus gripped his robes tightly in his hands, wishing time for once would speed up and quicken his defeat. Remus growled pushing Severus onto his back. Continuing with the motion, Remus climbed on top of his lover, straddling his waist while holding down flailing wrists, "and who said I was going to choose him over you!" "When you let that harlot kiss you!" "I am sorry that I was a little shocked over the news! It is not everyday that someone can say they are bedding a doppelgaenger." Remus was happy to see the spark of passion ignite again in those onyx eyes, but there was still the look of quiet defeat beneath them. "I am not as blind as everyone thinks I am to how you feel. I know you are disappointed in me over not showing enough affection, but I am not going to change that drastically from what I was before. I am and will remain a private man!" Severus attempted to twist out of the grip he was in, but it was as useless. Now he was wishing Remus would have just said goodbye in those few minutes before midnight, it would have been a lot less troublesome then this fiasco. "I am not asking you to change, I would never ask you to change like that! Yes would some handholding be nice or a simple chaste kiss? Very, I want to show everyone that you are mine and I won't let you go." Remus heaved, wishing he could cram his feelings for the potions master beneath him into that stubborn mind and make him understand how much he wanted him. "Then go with him, it will make your life far more simple. Just leave me in peace." All the tension left Severus's body, making him almost melt into the comfort. He did not want to have another battle with Remus over his better qualities, not when the stakes of losing the fight were so high. "I don't want him you stubborn fool! I chose you, the wolf chose you, and you are the Severus Snape that we want to stay!" Remus closed the distance between them, crashing his lips onto the stunned pair below. If his words and declarations could not reach Severus's heart, then maybe his actions would. Severus would almost call Remus's kiss violent, but he was returning it back with equal passion and fervor. It was teeth clicking together, lips being smashed against each other and all pure love. He smiled into the kiss and took the werewolf's hands into his own as he heard a dull bang and the mirror crack. It was the best kiss he would remember. ** Still trapped in the grogginess of sleep, Remus stretched and yawned, rolling over to find his surly lover and cuddle up to him. When he met nothing but the cold air, he sends out an arm to somehow find the missing body, but still nothing. And then the clock on the dresser chimed one. Memories of the previous day caught up to Remus in a rush and jolt him awake, scanning everywhere for his mate. A distressed whine pours out past his mouth, as the room shows no signs of Severus being in there. The whine turns into a cry of hopelessness as he sees the old mirror in the corner cracked and several pieces shattered on the wooden floor. He slept through midnight and his lover being whisked away to another world. He never even got to say goodbye or fight to keep him in his bed. The sound of water running through the pipes caught Remus's attention. Whipping his head around to the bedroom door, he prepared himself to launch at who ever was about to walk through. Severely injure if it was the other Severus thinking he was welcome in Remus's bed after what just happened. It was his lover who walked through the door instead. Lank hair, sallow skin and huge nose all wonderful beauty to Remus's eyes. "You look like the dark lord came back from the dead and won. What the bloody hell happened while I was in the loo?" Severus rushed over to his partner, the back of his hand automatically going to the cold and clammy forehead. Remus doesn't, couldn't, answer the question. Instead, he drags his mate on top of him as he falls back into the sanctuary of his bed, "I thought I lost you." Severus blinks a couple of times, processing the soft confession from his lover. Looking between the ruined mirror and the relief on Remus's face, the connection dawns on him. Relaxing in Remus's hold, Severus pillows his head on the werewolf's shoulder and breaths in the musky scent that never failed to calm him down, "I'm not going anywhere, he's the one who went back and broke the mirror in a fit of rage." Remus tightened his hold on Severus, plunging his nose into the slightly oily midnight locks. Herbal extracts invades his senses making him want to ravish his lover all over again. His ever incessant curiosity finally got the upper hand, "how did that happen love? I thought you where the one who was suppose to go back into that parallel world." Severus gave out a small sigh, wishing that his lover forgot that little piece of information. "Another way to decide which version stays is if that person's world completely accepts the original person or the doppelgaenger, and who ever is chosen stays in that world while the other goes back to the other world. My world didn't completely accept him, so he went back through the mirror." A soft blush graced Severus's features through the explanation. Remus did not have to have his lover explain what was in between the lines as a brilliant smile appeared on his face. All Severus's romantic gestures and confessions were subtly hidden over nonchalant phrases and gestures. This particular confession touched him deeply. Bringing his lovers face up to his, Remus looked deeply into the onyx eyes above him. Severus was not sure what his enigmatic lover was studying in his eyes but it was starting to make him slightly uncomfortable, though his natural stubbornness prevented him from looking away. "You're my world too, always." Remus sealed the promise he made to his mate in a tender kiss. ** Blur: Thank you for the review! I hope I did not disappoint you with this last chapter! And thank you to all the people who read the story! Hopefully I shall have more coming out soon!
