Chapter 1 - True Heritage
Chapter 1
Harry Potter lay on his bed broken and bruised. He had yet again somehow managed to do something to annoy his Uncle and if he recalled correctly it was something along the lines of breathing. As a result Harry had been punched, kicked, and whipped just like he had every other day he had been home for summer. Harry thought that what annoyed Vernon most was that inexplicably Harry's magic healed him overnight and every morning he woke up looking only like he hadn't eaten in about 2 weeks, which in reality was pretty accurate.
However, today was July 30th and Harry would be turning 17 in 3 hours when midnight came. He couldn't say he was excited because he knew that it meant he was officially an adult wizard and as such would be put under more pressure to defeat MouldySnorts but it did mean he would be able to use magic as well as take his apparation test which he had arranged for the next day. From what he had read in the library he would also come into the inheritance of his full powers and upon reaching his majority he could leave the Dursely's as soon as he got the chance, despite what Dumbledore had told him about remaining protected.
As Harry counted down the hours to his birthday he recalled all of his memories of his friends and family, especially Sirius. It made his heart sore when he thought of Padfoot and how he would have felt to have his Godfather there when he turned 17, to see him become an adult and likely to play a prank on him as well. He prayed that wherever he was at that moment that Siri could see him and could see how much Harry truly missed him.
Finally midnight approached and Harry lay back on his bed counting down the last ten seconds of his adolescence.

"Happy Birthday to me," he wished himself.
Harry sat up and looked out of his bedroom window to see the customary owls coming towards him from Ron, Hermione and Hagrid. There was also a fourth owl whose shape he didn't recognise. All four landed in his room and held out their parcels for Harry. He decided to leave the unknown, mystery letter and open the presents from his friends first. He took the presents from an excitable Pig and then extracted the parchment from the other owl’s leg before it hooted and took off again into the night.
Harry opened his present from Hagrid and discovered that he had been sent a box of what were likely completely inedible rock cakes. There was a note that said Happy 17th Harry! on the box and despite the fact he would probably never open the box again he smiled at his half-giant friend’s kindness.
The presents he received from Ron and Hermione confused him greatly though. Hermione had sent him a copy of Hogwarts: A History which he was pretty sure she knew he already had a copy of and Ron had just sent him a note saying that he would be able to get his presents from him and the rest of the Weasely family when he came to visit later that day. Harry couldn’t remember agreeing to come and visit the family but shrugged to himself and assumed that he had simply forgotten about it.
Harry then unrolled the mystery parchment and immediately noticed that the top of the letter contained the Gringotts seal and coat of arms. He began to read...
