He could see her curled into a little ball under the back porch. Her parents were so caught up in their argument that they hadn't even noticed their three-year-old daughter run from the house and crawl under the porch. He didn’t know how long he had stood there before he crawled under the porch after her. Her pale face was covered in dried tears and dirt. Severus lifted her into his arms and wrapped her in his cloak. Being forced to watch his daughter suffer this way was unbearable. He whispered,
“Don’t cry, sweet! I will fix this, I promise.”
