Relationships, explained

When Harry finally made it back to the Gryffindor common room he fell into the chair in front of the fire place, almost unwilling to act on his thought from before.

There's no point, she'll never believe me anyway...

He confined himself to helplessness, and chided his animalistic nature. Why couldn't he resist her charms? He knew he loved her now, hell he loved them both, but how to make his Hermione see?

The falling out with Ron over her had been inevitable - he couldn't justify his desires for his best mate's girlfriend any more than he could justify leaving his best mate's sister for said girlfriend. The sliceable tension that filled the room in which both boys slept was tolerable but constant. Seamus, Dean and Neville had since given up trying to reconcile the boys and preferred to ignore both of them over any more arguments. There would never be a reconciliation if Ron could help it - he had made that clear to all of them. To have his heart broken and family betrayed was just too much.

Hermione was of course stunned when Harry confessed his love for her after breaking up with Ginny, and at first she avoided Harry and Ron altogether, preferring to hide away from the inexplicable attention. She couldn't understand it. Harry was like a brother to her, as was Ron. She had hoped for something more from Ron and only continued to come up disappointed.

It was clear as day to anyone that Ron was the more committed of the two, but Hermione just couldn't forge the feelings she knew would make him happy. As she thought on it, it made sense not to be with either of them - she didn't want to be between friends or the cause of their already growing hatred for one another. And so, within a fortnight of Harry's profession, she split up with Ron but left Harry disappointed too. She had been on her way to rendezvous with Harry to tell him her feelings when she had caught him in McGonagall's classroom no less naked and moving on top of another woman.

Well he certainly doesn't waste any time does he! She thought angrily. How dare he! What a lying little... ergh!

The thing that annoyed Hermione the most wasn't the fact that Harry had obviously decided to move on with his life, but the fact that she was jealous of the woman he was being intimate with. Jealous? She didn't even like him like that! It made no sense to the extremely logical Hermione, and she brushed the thoughts away for later dissection in the privacy of her Head Girl quarters later that evening.

A/N. I'm sorry it's so short, I've been distracted with my studies lately with the semester coming to a close so I'll be able to focus on this story once I've completed all my assignments.
