Chapter 2
This is obviously going to be a little different from the real Pride and Prejudice but I thought it would be funny and interesting to put Harry Potter characters into the book. Pride and Prejudice is definitely lacking anything sexual so this story will differ in that aspect...
Chapter Two
Hermione was excited for the ball as she made her way up the steps at Gryffindor Manor since it was always fun to see friends and dance. The lantern light reflected off the endless line of shrubbery that extended beyond eyesight and the neighs of horses filled the night air. Hermione shivered in the small breeze and pulled her cream colored wool shawl closer around her shoulders. She had chosen to wear her best dress for the evening which was an empire waist white muslin gown that clung to her curves. Her curly golden brown tresses were twisted atop here head with a few tendrils framing her face. Hermione chose a simple silver hair comb with a pattern of green gems to wear in her hair. The night air did wonders for her complexion with the cold leaving her cheeks rosy and her eyes sparkling with laughter.
Ginny was next to her as they entered the Manor and Hermione noticed that she looked especially lovely this evening. Ginny has on the palest blue gown that brought out the color in her eyes and her fiery red hair complemented her pale complexion. Hermione glanced at her chattering younger sister Lavender and Parvati who were decked out in as many ribbons and gaudy bobbles they could stick to themselves. She could not decide if it was better or worse than what her sister Padma had on. Padma looked like a nun in a beige dress that seemed to go all the way up to her ears and her hair was severely pulled back into a tight bun.
Hermione gasped aloud as she entered the ballroom at Gryffindor Manor. Beautiful flowers were hung everywhere on the golden walls and candles gave the room an ethereal glow. The crystal chandeliers sparkled and the dance floor was filled with men and women dancing jubilantly. The married women sat in exclusive groups on cushy settees criticizing everyone in the room while their husbands stood in groups discussing politics and how much they would rather be hunting.
Immediately Hermione spied her best friend Luna Lucas and excused herself from Ginny who has already been asked to dance. She could hear her mother bragging to some of her middle-aged married friends in the corner. “See that’s my Ginny. She’ll have that Bingley wrapped around her finger before the night’s out if you ask me.”
“Oh heavens, Luna! I’m so glad you’re here. This place is a madhouse already!” Hermione grabbed her blonde friend in a quick hug and admired the deep purple gown she was wearing. “You look wonderful, Luna. That color looks beautiful on you of course. Have you danced yet?”
Luna laughed and replied, “Oh, Hermione. You know no one is going to ask to dance with me. I’m an old maid by their standards.” Hermione gave her friend a gentle slap on the arm and both girls fell into friendly banter.
After an hour or so Hermione felt Ginny grab her arm from behind and whisper into her ear. “Mr. Bingley is here and he has guests.” Ginny gestured towards the front of the ballroom where an elegant group of people was entering. “That’s Mr. Bingley with the black hair. And that blonde fellow is a friend of his he picked up on his trip to Hogsmeade. His name is Mr. Darcy from what I have heard. And that woman with them is Mr. Bingley’s sister.”
Hermione looked at Mr. Bingley and noted that he was a handsome gentlemen of average height with unruly black hair and electric green eyes. He seemed to be lightly muscular with an eager smile for everyone he met. Miss Bingley was the exact opposite of her brother with long pale blond hair and a squished little nose that gave her the appearance of a pug. Hermione did not much care for the disdainful looks she shot at everyone in attendance. It was Mr. Darcy that caused Hermione’s heart to skip a beat. She inwardly gasped as she got a closer look at him. He was about 6 feet tall with a lean yet muscular build. His blond hair was slicked back slightly but some pieces still managed to fall into his face. Hermione could do nothing but stare at him as he moved amongst the people in the crowd. She felt a tug deep in her belly when for a moment his glacial silver eyes met her chocolate brown ones from across the room. Hermione though she might swoon which was very unlike her usual behavior. She was slightly embarrassed to see that this Mr. Darcy turned the other way and acted as if he had not even seen her. Hermione heard her mother beckoning in a loud voice from across the hall so she grabbed her sister and made her way over to their mother in an attempt to get her to quiet down.
“What is it? You’re making quite the spectacle,” said Hermione grumpily.
“Oh, girls. Good now I have all of you together. You father is going to introduce us all to Mr. Bingley and his companions. This is our chance, girls.” Mrs. Bennet looked utterly flustered as they made their way over to the party and at the last minute said in a rather loud whisper, “Now you, Ginny. You get up front here so Mr. Bingley can see you. Yes, there you are.” The Bennet family finally made their way over to the group and Hermione thought something might seriously be wrong with her stomach.
Mr. Bennet sidled up to the front of the gaggle and began the introductions. “Evening, Mr. Bingley. Good to see you again. You have a lovely home. This of course is my wife, Mrs. Bennet. And these are my daughters Miss Ginny Bennet, Miss Hermione Bennet, Miss Lavender Bennet, Miss Parvati Bennet, and of course Miss Padma Bennet.” At each of their names the girls curtsied and blushed appropriately.
Mr. Bingley smiled broadly and bowed at each girl although he couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of Ginny. “Well I’m glad you and the lovely ladies in your family could attend this evening. Allow me to introduce myself to your family. I am Mr. Harry Bingley.” At this Mr. Bingley gave a deep bow and continued, “And let me introduce my companions of course. This is my dear friend Mr. Draco Darcy. And this is my lovely sister, Miss Pansy Bingley.“ The Bennet family offered greetings to the newly introduced members of Mr. Bingley’s party but Hermione was surprised to see that both Mr. Darcy and Miss Bingley barely paid any attention to them at all. It was barely civil. Hermione blushed furiously and was more than glad when the introduction was completely over.
However before they could get far Mr. Bingley addressed Ginny and asked, “I was wondering, Miss Bennet, if you would honor me with the next dance.” Hermione could see a furious blush spread across Ginny’s face. Mrs. Bennet could be heard none too quietly squealing in the background. Ginny could barely look Mr. Bingley in the face as she replied in the affirmative.
As soon as they moved away from the party Hermione turned to Ginny exclaiming, “I knew it! Mr. Bingley likes you.”
Ginny giggled, “Oh, Hermione. Isn’t he absolutely delicious looking. He is so handsome. I can’t believe he asked me to dance.”
“Well I can believe it,” said Hermione . “Oh wait here he comes.” Hermione pushed herself into the crowds lining the sides of the dance floor as her sister was whisked off into a country dance. Eventually she found Luna and they both settled onto chairs. Time flew by and Hermione was pleased to see that Mr. Bingley asked Ginny to dance a couple more times. She was just a little disappointed that no one has asked her to dance since usually she barely sat down during balls.
At one point while Hermione was sitting by herself, Luna having excused herself to get a drink, she noticed that Mr. Bingley was standing near behind her chair having not noticed that she was sitting there. His friend Mr. Darcy was standing conversing with him. The late hour and the heat of all the bodies had lulled Hermione into a sleepy state but the steel tones of Mr. Darcy’s voice woke her from her daze. She tried to pretend that his gravelly tones were not what was causing her nipples to pebble against the front of her bodice. And the wet feeling between her thighs must be from the heat of the room she assured herself. Trying to ignore the strange sensations running through her body Hermione tuned into the conversation going on behind her.
She heard Mr. Bingley say in a curious tone, “Darcy, I haven’t seen you dance with a single lady this evening. And there are plenty of available ones. It‘s not like you.”
Hermione heard a frustrated groan and the reply came, “Harry, you know you have been dancing with the only good looking girl in the room. Ginny Bennet is the most attractive girl here.”
Mr. Bingley chuckled lightly. “I’ll give you that. She is gorgeous. But there are plenty of other attractive girls. I haven’t seen her lately but what of Hermione Bennet? She is a good looking girl.”
Hermione heard a snort that nearly caused her to whip her head around but she kept her composure in fear of being caught listening in. “Hermione Bennet? Not good looking enough for me and far from my type of woman. I like them curvy with something I can hold on to you know that, Bingley. She looks like she would fall apart if I got too rough with her.” At that Hermione could hear rough laughter from both men and rage coursed through her body. After her head cleared Hermione realized the men must have moved to the other side of the room because they were no where in sight.
Hermione jumped up from her chair and immediately went in search of Ginny and Luna. All the while she was screaming inside. How dare he? Not curvy enough? She couldn’t believe she had thought he was attractive.
