Hogwarts Express
The next week Jenna went again to Diagon Alley to get all the non school items. Walking in and out of shops, she bought herself plenty of hygiene products, beauty products, and regular clothes before going into hobby shops and finally the book store for the trashy novels she loved to read. She had plenty of them at home to bring, but there were still so many she hadn’t read. Using some of her birthday money from her friends at her old school she bought a couple of them plus a few books on other subjects.
“Ahem.” Jenna whirled around to find one of the redheaded boys from last week leaning against a bookshelf. He was smiling. “Funny seeing you here, I didn’t happen to catch your name last week.”
“Oh, um, Jenna.” She was surprised that he actually came up to her just for her name.
“Jenna, that’s a nice name. I’m Fred.” He held out his hand and she shook it. “I see you’re into trashy novels.” She blushed and went to hide it behind her back but he stopped her. “It’s alright. My mom and sister read them too.” Another redhead popped out from behind the bookcase.
“Hi I’m George, Fred’s twin.” He smiled.
“Jenna,” She simply said. “I’d love to stay and chat but I have to finish getting my things and head home, my mom needs help with my brother and sister.” She gathered her things and left. The twins stared after her.
“She’s beautiful George.” Fred sighed and crossed his arms.
“Well we may end up seeing her again, she looks about Ron’s age. There are Hogsmeade weekends at Hogwarts.” George said.
“I’ve never seen her when we were at Hogwarts. You think she’s just visiting? She had a French accent.”
“Yes but her English accent was stronger. She’s probably a transfer, doesn’t happen often but it does happen.” The brothers left the store and apparated home.
September 1st arrived and Jenna had all of her things packed in her mother’s old trunk. It was a beautiful trunk, all the metal pieces on it were real gold and the wood was purpleheart wood directly imported from Central America. It had been given to her mom when she started school but she refused to tell Jenna where she had gotten it. She had asked numerous times but the answer was always the same. It was always “I don’t remember Jenna, I was 11, that was years ago.”
“Jenna! Time to go! The twins are ready!” Jenna levitated her trunk downstairs then went back and grabbed her backpack and another bag. “Jenna I know you’re 17 now but please don’t use magic in front of our muggle neighbors.”
“Fine Mom,” Jenna sighed as she dragged her trunk outside. She was having trouble getting it down the front steps without damaging it when one of the neighbor boys came over and helped her lift it.
“Wow, this is heavy.” He grunted before smiling and placing it into the open trunk of the car. “Where you headed?”
“Boarding school, and who are you?” Jenna rarely spoke to the neighbors; she felt that it didn’t matter because she was never home.
“I’m Eddie. I live next door, never saw you around though.” Jenna shrugged.
“Eh, I’m busy.” She brushed him off and went back inside to get her other bags as her mom put the twins in the car. After locking the house up, they drove the long distance to Kings Cross. Normally they would have flooed there, but Janie wanted to seem normal as possible around the muggles, letting the neighbors know that Jenna went to boarding school because she was very advanced at her age, and the school did more for that public schools couldn’t do, while avoiding questions about where it was.
Once they arrived Janie showed Jenna where to bring her trunk. Jenna was amazing at the large red train. This was a new and nice relaxing way to get to school, and would give her plenty of time to find and meet new people. She was holding her baby sister to say goodbye when a woman came over to her mother.
“Janelle, is that you?” A plump red-haired woman walked up to Janie. “Oh my how you’ve changed! Are these two little ones yours?”
“Hi Molly. These are my twins David Jr. and Joanna, and this is my oldest Jenna.” Molly smiled at them.
“They’re all beautiful. Jenna is going to Hogwarts now? Last I heard you were in France with David. Why the change?”
“David is gone. We moved here because I couldn’t live there anymore.” Molly pulled Janie into a hug.
“Well why didn’t you contact me or Arthur? We would have helped you. You seem to have your hands full. Dumbledore contacted us first about you returning.” Jenna realized that this lady was Molly Weasley.
“I’m alright Mol. How are you though? Last I knew; you had your hands full with five boys.” Molly beamed.
“Six boys and a girl now. Ron and Ginevra are attending Hogwarts still. Ron is in his seventh year and Ginny is in her sixth. The other five graduated.”
“Wow, you two must have had your hands full with seven kids, and here I am having trouble with three.” Janie shook her head.
“There, there dear. Why don’t you come stay with Arthur and me for a little while, we’ll help you with the twins.”
“I can’t Molly, I have a home already…”
“Pish posh, I won’t take no for an answer. Those muggles won’t care if you take a vacation.”Jenna turned to her mother.
“Mom, go stay with them. You need a break. You haven’t really talked to anyone since Dad died.” Janie shrugged.
“I guess Jenna made my choice for me.”Molly smiled and Jenna offered her the baby, which Molly took happily. Just then a bunch of red-haired people joined them. “Well Molly, I see all of your children inherited yours and Arthur’s red hair.”
“Well you can’t mistake whose children they are then.” Janie nodded. Just then Jenna was tapped on the shoulder.
“Hello Jenna.” She turned around to see the twins from Diagon Alley there.
“Hi Fred, George. I’m guessing Molly is your mother?” They nodded.
“Would you like us-,” started Fred.
“To escort you to-,”George continued.
“The train?” They finished together. Jenna shrugged and kissed her mom goodbye before starting off with them. By the time they were at one of the doors, one of the twins had disappeared.
“Okay, which one are you?” She asked the one remaining.
“Fred. You need to least learn to tell us apart.” He pointed to the stud earring in his ear. “I have a silver one. George has a gold one.” She nodded.
“What a great way to tell you guys apart, and if your hair gets any longer, they can’t tell at all.” She smiled smugly as the train whistled. “I have to go. I guess I’ll see you during Christmas break or something.” She boarded the train with a final wave to her mom and walked down the hallway, briefly peeking in doorways to find an empty cabin. She finally found one in the middle of the train and AFTER putting her two bags in it she curled up and took out her sketch pad and pencil box, ready to draw away the train ride.
About two hours later her cabin door slid open and the blonde boy from a few weeks ago stepped into the doorway.
“Can I help you?” she asked, not even bothering to look at him.
“So I see you are new here.” She snorted.
“Obviously blondie.” She didn’t appreciate him pointing out the obvious.
“My name is Draco Malfoy. Who are you?” He asked haughtily. She shrugged.
“My name is for me to know and you to find out. Now please leave so I can continue with what I’m doing in peace.” However, instead of leaving her alone, he shooed his cronies away and sat down across from her.
“I want to know your name.” He simply said. She sighed.
“Matthews. My surname is Matthews. However, you are not getting my first name.” He shrugged.
“That’s fine. Matthews is a pureblood name.” He leaned towards her. “What are you drawing?”
Jenna didn’t even answer him, she just kept drawing, switching the flesh colored pencil for a light yellow one, then a silver. He sat most of the next hour, just staring at the soft look on her face as she focused on her drawing. He was so lost in her features that he didn’t even notice the door being opened…
“Draco!” A plump, pug-faced girl was standing in the doorway with her arms folded across her chest. Jenna peered up from her drawing.
“Do you mind? It’s difficult enough to get the colors right WITHOUT being interrupted.” The girl just glared and turned back to Draco.
“Why aren’t you in my cabin with me? I’ve been looking all over the train for you. A filthy Hufflepuff even tripped me.” She pouted, which made her look even uglier. Jenna immediately decided that she didn’t like this girl. She had insulted Jenna’s mother’s house.
“Shove off Pansy, I wanted time alone.”
“But-but….this girl-,” Draco cut her off.
“All the other cabins were full. We’re not doing anything, not even talking so SHOVE OFF.” He slammed the door in her face. “Merlin she’s annoying.”
Jenna looked over at him, he looked peeved.
“Then don’t hang around her. Find something she doesn’t like or would never do and she’ll either leave you alone, or try to do it and fail miserably, lowering her self esteem and confidence, and she’ll leave you alone then, or just get revenge.” He just stared at Jenna and she shrugged. “It’s worked for me.”
After about another two hours Jenna began to get hungry; her stomach was growling audibly as Draco opened a bag and pulled out some sandwiches which were charmed to stay warm. Hearing them, Draco smiled.
“Want one?” He held out a steaming sandwich, which she gratefully took. “So, you said your surname is Matthews?”
“Yea, my dad is David Matthews. He was a famous wizard photographer and wedding planner. My mom helped too. That stopped a couple of months ago.” She sighed. “Dad died, Mom knows he was killed, but the Aurors say it was a suicide, which doesn’t make sense. He didn’t show any signs of anything. We all know for a fact he was happy, Mom was pregnant with twins, I was top of my class at Beauxbatons, we had more than enough money. It never added up.”
“Wow, I’m sorry. My father mentioned his name awhile ago; he took my parent’s wedding photo, which he sent off to be painted.” Jenna smiled.
“He never sent them off. He did them himself, but he never told anyone. He didn’t want the fame of being a fantastic painter along with his wedding business.” She showed him a page in her sketchbook or her siblings.
“That’s where I learned it all.”
“That’s amazing…are they your sister and brother, it looks almost real.” She blushed crimson before putting her drawings away.
“Dad was amazing; I just don’t know who would want to kill him.” She quietly sat back into the corner and took a bite of her sandwich.
