Chapter One

As it always turns out, talent is found in the most unlikely of places at a time when you least expect it. It was a completely accidental stumble and then, there it was. Sitting right there, humming to a tune never heard of before.

Draco stared curiously from his hiding place behind the bookshelf. He had been heading to his favourite spot in the library for some good study time, when he stumbled across the most beautiful song he had ever heard. Where he would normal get angry at someone sitting in his spot, he found he didn't care. As long as she kept singing.

He knew he would have to make his presence known. It wasn't right to hide in the shadows and spy on someone while they were having, what he assumed was, a private moment.

He had never heard the song before, but he didn't care. The voice was perfect for his unknown band.

Then, she stood up and turned around. He nearly groaned at his rotten luck. How he hadn't realized it was her from the beginning, he would never know. She had managed to mesmerize him with her voice and this made him angry.

Like the snake he was, he slithered from behind the bookcase. "Merlin, Granger, do you always occupy other peoples' study spots?" he growled as he approached her.

She threw him a dirty look. "I wasn't aware these seats had names on them," she spat back. "I will have to speak with Madam Pince to find out which is my seat."

"Don't bother," he snapped. "I wouldn't sit at that table if you paid me."

He turned on his heel to leave, but she stopped him. "You know, I'm not contagious," she told him.

He glanced at her, gearing up to return fire, but thought better of it. He didn't want to anger her too much. As much as he hated to admit it, she was a killer singer and would be perfect for the band.

He waited outside the Divination Room for the bell to ring. It wasn't that he had class. He was waiting for someone there. Once the bell rang, he stood up straight. Students began filing out and it took everything in him not to give a scathing remark to Brown and Patil.

"Bones," he said, startling the girl into dropping her books. He rushed to help her pick them up.

She smiled at him. "Thank you, Draco," she said as he handed her a small stack of papers and her Divination book.

He returned her smile. "I need a favour of you," he said, in a low voice so only she would hear. "I found us a singer."

Her eyes lit up with excitement. She nearly squealed and dropped her books again as she threw her arms around his neck. "Oh, Draco! That's wonderful! Anthony will be so pleased!"

She did squeal. Right. In. His. Ear.

He gently pried her arms from around his neck and pulled her within an arms length from his person. He fought not to rub his ears. "There's only one problem," he told her. "The person I found would never agree to sing in a band that I am a member of."

She looked at him curiously. "Who is it?"

"Granger," he answered, not expecting the laughter that spilled from her mouth.

She was laughing so hard, tears were falling from her eyes. As she calmed down and wiped the tears away, she said, "I never knew Hermione could sing. How interesting is that!"

He shrugged. "It doesn't matter. She'll never agree to sing with us. Especially, with me being in the band. And you know, while I don't want to be lead singer, I do have plans to be backup and maybe do a few duets. She'll never sing with me."

The girl rolled her eyes. "Never say never, Draco, because you never know what's going to happen next," she replied. "Let me guess. You don't believe she'll talk to you or even consider your proposal if you try to ask her to join. Because of this, you want me to talk to her while cleverly leaving out the part that you are a member of the band."

He brightened and smiled charmingly. "Yes!"

"Neverminding the fact that I am terrible when it comes to manipulation and deception and that I couldn't lie to save my life," she continued as though he hadn't spoken.

His face fell. "You don't have to lie," he said, thinking quickly. "Just don't tell her anything."

She raised an eyebrow. "You expect me to approach her with the idea of joining our band and not to tell her everything? Have you forgotten that she is the brightest and most inquisitive witch of our age? She'll have questions, Draco. And I'll have to answer them," she pointed out.

He sighed, "Well, break it to her easily. Let her know that this is the opportunity of a lifetime and we would be... honoured if she would join us. I'll even be... nice to her."

Never in a million years did Draco think he'll be standing in the Divination tower begging Susan Bones to talk Hermione Granger into joining their band. The situation would have been laughable if Draco wasn't so hellbent. "You should've heard her, Susan," he said, with another sigh. "I haven't heard a voice as beautiful as hers since my mother sang me to sleep when I was a toddler. In fact, I can almost say that she's even better than my mother."

The girl finally sighed in defeat. "I'll talk to her. But, I can't make any promises, Draco. Be prepared for her to turn us down."
