Chapter 2

Hermione didn’t know what to make of it. Draco Malfoy was being- dare she say it- nice.

When she had gotten her head girl letter she’d been ecstatic, she wanted the esteemed position ever since she read “Hogwarts, A History” for the first time. And now it was hers. The only problem was the head boy.

Draco Malfoy.

She had decided that she wasn’t going to let him ruin this for her. She would be civil and demand that he do the same. Surely at seventeen and as legal adults they could be civil!

But she hadn’t needed to demand anything. He was being, she cringed, nice all on his own. The question was- why? Draco Malfoy could not, would not, be nice on his own, without a scheme to motivate him. She had to find out what.

Not now though. Now she was going to bask in the glory of her head girl position and all it’s benefits. Like her own room! She giggled as she fell back on her bed. Life was perfect, absolutely perfect.

With Voldemort gone, and all the known death eaters awaiting the kiss life was already near perfect at the end of her sixth year but now- now everything was exactly as it should be.

She’d spent an amazing last summer with her parents before going to the Burrow for a couple weeks. The three of them had gone to Italy on a family vacation were she’d enjoyed her final moments of adolescence. They talked for hours about everything that had happened in the last six years and about Hermione’s goals for her last year at school and future.

Life was about to begin and her visions of the future were very bright. The only thing more that a girl could possibly want was someone special to share her perfection with. And Hermione knew exactly who her prince charming would be.

Ronald Weasley, she decided, was the man for her.

She had been sending him messages for the past two years and the only thing preventing their relationship, in her mind, had been the threat of Voldemort and the need to put all their efforts into helping Harry. Now that threat was gone. All that was left to do was wait for Ron to sweep her off her feet. And she felt certain that it would happen any day now.

The last two weeks that she, Harry, and Ron had spent together at the Burrow had done nothing to disprove her belief that a relationship was forthcoming either. Even Harry seemed to know what was coming- he would constantly leave them alone with shady excuses, blushing the whole time.

Yes, Hermione was positive that by the end of the month she would have her prince.

But for now she needed to get settled in her new room. Her very own room.
