Chapter 2: Sorting out Draco

Narcissa Malfoy certainly wasn't one to wait around for anyone, even her own family. Since she had been waiting a whole thirty minutes at platform 9¾ for her son to step out of the Hogwarts Express, her patience was getting thin. As she eyed the other parents around the station at Kings Cross, she felt antsy with every minute. With her nose held imperiously in the air, as if she smelled something foul under it; and most said it was herself she smelled, she scanned the platform for her son and his friends.

"Well I never!" Narcissa exclaimed as she checked her diamond encrusted, ever winding, Vacheron Constantin watch on her pale wrist. Something was wrong, and she just knew it. Her being upset was more due to everyone staring at her as though she was a common criminal while whispers were being passed here and there. Finally, she had had enough.

"NOD"! She bellowed. A small house-elf belonging to Narcissa’s son appeared beside her.

"Can Nod help the Lady Malfoy"? Nod squeaked.

"Yes Nod". She said imperiously. "Go on board that train, before it leaves, and fetch my son along with those two buffoons he calls friends".

"Nod will be doing that for my lady, Nod will be right back". He replied with a bow and popped out of sight.

Nod knew why she had sent him on the train, and he knew well, oh yes. Narcissa Malfoy would not dare sully herself with such a task as always. He popped into the first car and began his search, compartment-to-compartment, and car-to-car. He felt his master close as he opened the final compartment he was to check. There, tied in the luggage racks, were what looked to be three slimy large slugs, though some would have called them maggots.

"Oh master, what have you gotten yourself into, Nod does not know". The little house-elf said as he shook his head. He gently levitated all three from the racks and lowered them to where they were about one foot off the floor. He knew easily which one was his master because not only could he sense him, he was the smallest of the three. With a pop, he appeared back beside Narcissa with the three floating behind him.

Narcissa quickly took a look at the three and exclaimed, "WHAT are those ghastly things"!

Nod bowed his head, shaking it from side to side with worry. "It's Master Malfoy and his two friends. I found them in the last compartment, tied in the luggage rack".

Narcissa Malfoy sniffed a loud sniff, her face screwed up like she had tasted something vile, while saying in a low voice, "Quickly Nod, take them to the house before anyone sees them"!

Nod popped away with the three in tow. Narcissa looked around the platform and found the Weasley’s and Grangers staring at the incident. She turned around swiftly, her robes swirling out similar to Severus Snape's. Walking stiffly in high dudgeon, she disappeared from their view as she left through the portal from the platform.

At Malfoy Manner:

Draco Lucius Malfoy set in his room a week later still remembering what he had went through for two days. 'Two days', he thought to himself. It took two days for the healers to sort them all three out. He shook his head with a sigh, getting up from the divan; he strolled to the high windows of his room. As he looked out over the vast front lawn, watching the white peacocks strut here and there, he thought again how stupid they had been.

Draco mumbled to himself, "We should have known better! They trained vigilantly right under our noses in defense. Well, that's neither here nor there, but damn it all, they're like a group of auror’s as fast as they acted".

Draco was thinking then, and thinking hard about his life. He wondered if just maybe, he had picked the wrong side. "I mean hell, they're just students like me, and if they're that good, along with the auror’s and ex-auror’s mind you, and this secret order I overheard my parents speaking of, they might just wipe the Dark Lord up when Potter finally faces him".

Draco was still reluctant to think that his parents really had anything to do with what he had read in the Daily Prophet. The same Daily Prophet he had to get Nod to steal for him before his mother destroyed it, just so he couldn't read it. Of course, she put it off as just rubbish, and that was why she burned them as quick as she got them. However, he knew his father was in Azkaban. One is not sent there for nothing.

"Maybe it was all a lie, everything they told me", Draco mumbled. "I'll be damned if I let that thing mark me, my skin is too perfect for that".

Then it hit him, what he would need to do as soon as possible. It had to be that day, as his aunt Bellatrix Lestrange would be having supper with them that evening. ‘I mean really’, Draco thought, ‘letting a total nutter into their home, and an Azkaban escapee to boot’! His mothers sister or not, he didn't want anything to do with her after he had heard his friends discussing how vile and sadistic a woman she actually was.

"Nod"! Draco expounded.

"Nod is hear, can I get the young Master anything", Nod replied bowing so low his nose scraped the floor.

"Nod, please stand up, you don't have to bow like that in front of me, only mother and father".

"Thank you Master, Nod does so appreciate the young master. How may Nod help"?

"Nod, you can go anywhere in this house, correct"?

"Yes, Nod can be doing that sir, whatever Master wishes".

"Listen, there's a large wooden chest with a lock on it inside the credenza in my fathers study. Can you get that and bring it here without my mother or the other house-elves knowing"?

Nod trembled at this, wringing his hands, then he said in a shaky voice as he looked up at his master, "Yes, but Lord Malfoy said to never touch that box, or it would be Nods head sir"!

"You needn't worry about him Nod, he will not be back for a long time". 'I hope' Draco added as an afterthought.

"Nod will retrieve it sir, for Master, but please never let Lord Malfoy know it was me". Nod said as he hung his head and trembled again.

"Nod, look at me", Draco said softly with an actual smile. "You are bound to me, not my father, nor my mother. If things work out like they are looking now, we will be leaving here for good, possibly." He added the last word in a whisper.

Nod looked up at Draco, then bowed his head again, but just slightly, and exclaimed, "I'll retrieve it sir, and be back as soon as possible for Master". With that, Nod popped out of his room.

About thirty minutes later, as Draco was looking out the window watching the peacocks again, Nod popped back into view holding a good size wooden chest with a heavy lock on it.

"Nod is sorry sir, I had to wait until the other elves were not around to retrieve the chest. I can punish myself sir for your wait". Nod said as he proceeded to wring his bony hands, looking at the floor.

"Nod, you’re fine, and I do not want you ever harming yourself. You have been with me now for six years, and I am not like my father, you know that". Draco said kindly with a small smirk.

"Can Nod be getting Master anything else"? Nod questioned with a look of pure relief written over his face.

"No thank you Nod, you may go". Draco answered as he took the chest and placed it on the tea table in front of the divan. Nod then popped out of sight as requested. At this, Draco turned around and heavily warded his room with the strongest locking charms he knew. "Probably nothing compared to what those in Dumbledore’s Army knew with that crazy old coot helping them", Draco said to himself.

Draco sat himself on the divan in front of the chest. The chest itself looked ancient, with runes carved into the wood in two bands that encircled the chest where the top parted from the bottom. It had an old iron lock on its face, probably goblin made, Draco thought. He next had to see what types of wards were on it. After casting several spells upon it, he found that it was a blood ward attuned to the Malfoy’s lineage. Draco used his wand to cause a small cut to appear on his index finger, and then placed his bloody finger onto the lock. At once, the lock glowed a soft blue glow, and opened with a loud clack. Draco raised the lid and was astounded at what he saw. Inside was a smaller size pensieve, along with numerous phials of a glittery silver substance floating inside each. 'Memories', Draco thought. With this, Draco began emptying one phial after another, viewing each memory as he came to them.

When Draco was finally through viewing them all, he locked the box back, shrunk it, and hid it in his closet. Afterwards, he sat back on the divan with a sigh and began to think about all he saw. His father was nothing but a petty criminal, a murderer, a rapist, and a boot licker to one of the vilest beasts he had ever laid eyes on. 'Malfoy’s bow to no one' Draco snorted at the thought. After all, that's what his father had said to him wasn't it? Draco just shook his head at all he had seen. His parents were nothing but what the Daily Prophet had said they were. How could he have believed them for this long; it made him sick to his stomach. Finally, he ran to the loo, and properly lost his lunch.

After the dry heaving stopped, and downing a calming draught, Draco stood and ran himself a bath. He didn't have but a couple of hours until his auntie was scheduled to arrive, which he was so looking forward to; he thought to himself and snorted. As he laid back in the huge bath, he began to think what to do next. 'Well', he thought, 'I'm not going to wait much longer after tonight as something is surely up'.

Draco thought on it more when it hit him, and he suddenly exclaimed, "Damn it! She's here to recruit me early; that has to be what's up! After tonight, I'll owl Harry, I have to get out of this some how. They're doing this over my fathers fuck-up at the Ministry, and I’d bet money on it".

Draco proceeded to get dressed and head downstairs to dinner. When he entered the main dining room, he saw his mother sitting there with her arrogant look about her as always. However, beside her was another woman who favored his mother somewhat. She had on a black robe, with black hair that had a touch of gray mixed with it. She looked to be whispering very agitatedly at his mother. When he lightly cleared his throat, they both looked around at him, and then stood to greet him.

Narcissa began, "Draco, let me introduce you to your auntie Bellatrix Lestrange".

Bellatrix held her hand out where Draco took it in his and bowed. Instead of kissing the top of her hand, he used his chin to nudge it slightly.

"My what a charming son you have Cissa, all the proper pureblood etiquette of a proper wizard" Bellatrix cooed.

Draco thought to himself, 'The nutter-bint must have actually thought I kissed her filthy paw'. He then stood with his back straight; shoulders squared and said, "Thank you auntie," Finishing with a small nod.

"Well let's be seated shall we, we have one other guest yet to arrive". Explained Narcissa.

"Mother, I thought you said we were only having auntie Bellatrix over this evening"? Draco questioned.

"I'm sorry darling, but the Dark Lord decided to join us tonight himself. I thought I would surprise you dear."

'Oh, you surprised me alright mother dearest; now we'll not only have a raving nutter for dinner, but an inhuman lunatic with us also', Draco thought while swallowing the bile in his throat.

At that moment, the large paneled doors into the dining room slid open revealing someone in a dark cloak with their hood pulled up over their head. Everyone stood from the table, Narcissa and Bellatrix bowing down on one knee. Draco didn't know what to do then, he just bowed like they did and muttered the same as they did, "My Lord".

Lord Voldemort strolled in the room as if he owned the place, walking over to Bellatrix first, and tilted her chin up with his bony white claw-like hands. Then he started speaking in his high-pitched hissing voice.

"My dear, sweet Bella, and your lovely sister, how nice. Rise Bella, Narcissa, let me see you".

Draco noted he didn't include him, but he did look up to see what was taking place. The Dark Lord had grabbed Bellatrix by the front of her robes and placed what looked to be a kiss on her mouth. It was quite sickening really, thought Draco. The vile form didn't have any lips that he could see now that Voldemort’s hood was pulled back. He had hardly any ears, a reptilian like nose, and his skin was waxy looking. You could see the blue veins running under the skin of his bald scalp. It was enough to gag Draco. It was then Draco noticed Voldemort turn swiftly to see him watching them. Draco swiftly bowed his head back at being caught.

"My, what do we have here"? Voldemort’s high-pitched voice rang out. He swiftly made his way around the table to where Draco was still bowed on the floor. "You would be Draco, I take it, yes"?

"Yes my lord", Draco quickly choked out.

"Rise my young follower, you look much like your father from what I can see". Voldemort purred as he raked his eyes up and down Draco's entire body.

Draco immediately began filling his stomach knot up and twist. He swallowed and quickly replied, "Thank you my lord, it is a pleasure to meet you".

"Yesss", hissed Voldemort, as he reached out his scaly-white bony hand, and gently ran two fingers down Draco’s left cheek. "Ah yes, just like my Lucius. I dare say you will make a better follower than him eh? Seeing as how he botched up his last assignment and landed himself, along with some of my other followers in Azkaban? Now we can't have that can we Draco?"

"No my lord", Draco quickly shot out.

"All right then, shall we have our seats and begin our dinner?" Voldemort said with his eyes still clearly raking up and down Draco.

Lord Voldemort quickly ordered Narcissa to have the house elf serving them to bring in two bottles of Bollinger Vieille Vignes Françaises. Some of the most expensive champagne the Malfoy’s kept on hand. Draco couldn't believe the arrogance of this thing to ask for something this expensive to be drink like swill at a minor dinner occasion.

Draco could tell that the Dark Lord had tried legilimancy on him too. Luckily, he was very good at occlumency himself. He would probably be dead by now if he had seen what he had planned, Draco thought. He also knew that look. There was nothing but sick perverted lust coming from those two red snake-like eyes gazing at him like a rack of lamb. Draco felt naked from where he now set as if the Dark Lord was devouring him. He looked over at his mother and his auntie Bella. His mother, he could tell, didn't like this at all, while his auntie looked as if she could kill him at the drop of a hat.

'God damn it, I've got to get out of this', Draco thought worriedly.

At this time a small explosion happened somewhere upstairs, and Nod popped into view beside Draco.

'Young Master Malfoy sir, that potion you was brewing exploded, and you is needed quickly to take care of it. I is not knowing how sir". Nod whimpered out, and looked at Draco as if he were begging with those two large protuberant eyes.

Draco thought, 'That's funny, I wasn't brewing any potion', then it hit him. Nod was trying to save him and get him out of here. The small house elf had concocted him an excuse so he could escape.

Draco cleared his throat and looked at everyone at the table. "If it is all right with my lord, I must take my leave, and clean this up before there is any damage done to the house"? Draco wisely stated this as a question.

"Yessss young Malfoy, I wouldn't want any damage done to this fine manner as I fully plan on moving in here within two weeks time, along with Bella that is". Voldemort hissed out, clearly annoyed that his supper was interrupted.

Draco looked at his mother who had stiffened at the piece of news. "Please excuse me, this may take some time as I was brewing the Dragons Breath potion. It is a volatile solution, so it takes time to clean up an accident". With this Draco quickly stood, and with a swirl of his robes that Severus Snape would have been proud of, he exited the dining room as quickly as possible, sliding the two huge doors shut behind him. He then hurried upstairs to his room, shutting and warding the door behind him.

When Draco finally sat down on his divan, he shouted out "Nod!" The tiny house elf appeared in front of him.

"Nod, there was no potion was there?" Draco asked with a smirk.

Nod bowed his head, shaking it right and left; "No master Draco, there was no potion. I made the air crack with elf magic so it sounded like something had blown up".

"Nod, I'm very proud of you! If you could have went to school at Hogwarts, I'm sure you would have been a Slytherin!" Draco said with a laugh.

Nod looked up and smiled, a whole mouth full of teeth, which caused Draco to loose some of his excitement at the sight. After all, a house elf was not the best looking creature on the planet. "Does master Draco need anything else sir"?

"Yes Nod I do. I need you to keep a watch on my aunt, along with that thing that calls himself a lord, and let me know when they have left". Draco asked seriously.

"I can be doing that master, I'll let you know when they is gone". Nod said then snapped his fingers, again popping out of sight.

Draco then stood and marched to his desk. He immediately started writing a letter to his arch nemesis, and long time school enemy, Harry Potter. They had a lot to talk about.

When he finished writing the letter, Draco placed it inside a hidden compartment in his desk. He then stood, walked over to the divan, and set down to watch the fire in the hearth while trying to think. He hadn’t sat that long when he heard a light knock on his door.

“Must be mother”, Draco mumbled out, getting up to let her in.

Draco strolled across the floor, and paused at the door to set his face in an indifferent mask. He then reached out, taking hold of the crystal knob, and opened the door. To his surprise, it wasn’t his mother, but his aunt. Yes, it was his aunt, and she stood there with her wand pointed at his chest.

“Hello my ickle Drakie, I've come to have a word with you. CRUCIO”!
