As Hermione searched through the pile of scrolls and books laid out on her desk. She couldn't help but wonder exactly why she had agreed to not only have lunch with Malfoy but to study with him as well in the library. "What am I thinking?" Hermione shook her head and went over to her closet to choose an outfit. After changing into a white flowing bohemian skirt, navy tank top and silver flip flops, she grabbed her things and headed towards the library.

"God why am I so nervous? It's just Malfoy. Okay as long as I don't do anything stupid everything will be alright" Hermione picked up her pace a bit "ok just breathe Hermione"

As she approached the library she could feel her heart racing, and her hands shaking . "Get a hold of yourself Hermione" she mumbled to herself. After turning the corner she spotted Malfoy waiting for her outside of the library. Hermione noticed he had changed and was now wearing a pair of dark denim jeans with a black collar shirt. Hermione smiled at the fact that he was actually wearing muggle clothes. "Since when have you, Mr. Draco Malfoy, worn muggle clothing?" She asked with a coy smile dancing on her lips. Draco smirked and opened the door of the library "Since I discovered that they're actually pretty comfortable" he said as he followed her inside.

"So where would you like to begin?" Draco looked over at Hermione and tossed his things on the table.

"Well first of all I'm going to go get the books I need"

Draco watched as Hermione walked between the endless aisles of book filled shelves. He found it amusing that when she located a book she was interested in, she would stroke the spine of the book as if she was giving the book affection before she gently pull it out of place. ‘I wonder if she does that with the men she’s interested in too’ Draco smirked and decided it'd be best if he went and assisted Hermione with her growing pile of books before she fell over.

"Hermione if you keep at it we're going to have every book in the library on our table" He said as he took the books out of her hands and went and placed them on the table. She pulled another book from the shelf, handed it to Draco and smirked. After picking up a couple more books they returned to their table and quickly began to flip through the pages.

After a several hours of "intense research" Draco closed his book and looked up at Hermione who was chewing on her bottom lip and scribbling notes. "You know if you chew on your lip any harder you're going to end up with no lip at all" Hermione rolled her eyes, placed her quill in front of her and looked up at Draco. "Do you have to comment on everything I do?"

"Yes"

Hermione glared at Draco "Mind your own business and finish your homework" she said and began reading the book once again.

"Well what if I'm sick of studying?" Draco said as he placed his arms behind his head and reclined his chair so that it balanced on its back legs. "Well then no one is keeping you here, you can leave if you like" for some unknown reason Hermione found herself wishing he would stay. "Granger we've been at it for hours, its time for some fun" he said as he gathered his belongings. "Meet me at the lake in half an hour don't be late" he gave her a final smirk and left.

Hermione looked around the library and noticed that the only people in there were a couple of Ravenclaw students. "Maybe he was right" with that Hermione stood up and left the library.

"Mione! Wait up!" Hermione turned to see Ron running to catch up with her. "Where are you going?" he said as he fell in stride beside her. "I'm going to go leave my books in my room then I'm going to meet Malfoy by the lake"

"Meet Malfoy by the lake? Are you insane! If I didn't know any better I'd say you and Malfoy are becoming, dare I say it, friends!" he said as he grasped his heart and faked a heart attack. "Are you feeling alright? The fact that you even agreed appalls me"

"I've spent the entire afternoon studying with him and you know Ron I actually didn't mind it one bit." Hermione smiled at Ron and began to walk away. "You know if you turn up missing I'm not going to go looking for you!" She turned to see Ron with his hands cupped around his mouth "and don't say I didn't warn you!"

The night was beautiful; the stars seemed to be in a constant battle with one another, constantly trying to out shine the other. As Hermione walked towards the lake the cool night air swirled around her, making her regret not bringing a coat. As she approached the lake she saw Draco sitting on a blanket under a nearby tree, the moon light illuminating his blond hair and pale skin giving him the appearance of an angel. Draco looked up and watched as she approached him, when she was standing beside him he patted the spot on the ground beside him. Hermione took his offer and sat beside him leaning against the tree and looking out at the beautiful sight before her. "It's amazing isn't it? The way the moon's reflection makes the water come alive" he looked over at her, Hermione smiled and looked back at him “Yes it is”

"you know Hermione, I thought today was going to be dreadful, but it actually turned out alright" Hermione felt her cheeks turning red and looked down to hide her face. Draco quickly noticed she blushed; he smiled, reached over and softly touched her face. Hermione placed her hand over his and smiled up at him. Draco placed his arm over her shoulder and pulled her closer. "Don't get too used to this, too often" he whispered into her ear "Don't worry I won't" she whispered back. They knew that this was the beginning to something, something beautiful.

Hermione woke to the buzzing of her wand which had been set to wake her promptly at 8am an hour before class began. She groaned as she pulled herself out of bed, late nights out were something she wasn't accustomed to. Late nights with Draco Malfoy were definitely something she wasn't accustomed to. Hermione pulled her hair back into a messy bun, leaving loose curls hanging around her face, after putting on her robes and gathering her things she headed to class.

"Today class we will be choosing partners" Almost immediately following Snape's announcement students began to partner up "But…each student must be paired with someone who does not reside in the same house, I'll give you 30 seconds to do so, starting….now. Oh and if your not partnered up, I'll choose for you."

Hermione looked around for someone to partner up with; Harry had already partnered up with Pansy, Ron with Zabini, and Neville with Patil...that left….Malfoy.

Draco didn't bother to look around for a partner. He knew that no matter who he partnered up with he'd be getting perfect marks because he was just that outstanding at potions. He continued scribbling with his quill, not bothering to look up. When all of a sudden he was surrounded with the scent of lilac, he looked up to see Hermione taking a seat beside him.

"Hello Malfoy" she said not looking at him and arranging her things the way she liked them. "Granger" he said with a nod. "Looks like we're stuck together for the duration of the year" she said as she looked up at him. "I'm not looking to make chit chat Granger, so I'd appreciate it if you shut your Gryffindor mouth before I change my mind about allowing you to be my partner" Hermione couldn't help but gasp, as much as she didn't want to admit it, she was hurt. She took a deep breath and looked away from Malfoy and quickly started scribbling notes on her parchment as soon as Snape began his lecture.
