The Truth Comes Out
Lily looked up in time to see Potter and Black heading their way.
“Oh god,” she groaned, burying her face into her book, hoping that she had not really seen them, that it was just a figment of her imagination..
Severus looked at her, then looked around to see what she was groaning about. Great, he thought to himself. He began to gather up his books, making ready to leave.
“Don’t go,” Lily said grabbing his arm lightly. “He has no reason to bother us.”
Severus looked at her, and set his bag down again, and watched the two boys approach.
“Hey Lily,” James said as he pushed his way through the branches, a few leaves falling and catching onto his robes. Even with a scowl on her face, she was gorgeous.
“Snivvly,” James said looking over at Snape for a second, his smile disappearing from his face.
Sirius was following behind James, slyly smirking the whole time. Then he made eye contact with Lily, and tapped his mate on the shoulder.
“Maybe we should just go,” Sirius said to James, tilting his head towards Lily. She looked pissed.
“No,” James said looking at Sirius, before back at Snape. He had seen the ways Snape looked at Lily, and how he followed her around. James had tried to warn her, but she always ignored him. James cared for Lily’s safety, not just because he liked her, but because he also considered her a friend.
“What are you doing here Potter?” Severus snipped at James as he glared at him through his hair. “Are you going to ask Lily on another date so she can reject you for the umpteenth time?”
“If she rejected me, she surely would not accept you.” James glared at the boy, his hands gripping his wand hard.
Lily had heard enough:
“Leave him alone James!” Lily snapped as she put her books back into her school bag preparing to leave.
“What in the world has he ever done to you? You are constantly picking on him for no reason at all. What is it? Are you insecure? Or just that big of an idiot?! I am tired of you dictating who I can and cannot be friends with.” Lily said in a shrill voice.
Severus had heard enough, he quickly shot up out of the ground, drawing his wand at the same time. First he pointed at James, then surprisingly at Lily.
Many people who had been walking around had stopped at the sudden commotion and were watching the scene unfolding. Lily quickly scrambled to her feet, her hand reaching for her wand. She had no idea what was happening, and she just wanted to get out of there now.
“I don’t need your help,” he said flatly at Lily. Severus needed to save face now that people were watching, especially in front of Potter.
“You filthy Mudblood.”
Sirius had spun around quickly, his wand out pointed at Snapes throat. “What did you just say?” Sirius spat.
Lily’s eyes opened wide at his last words, she was shocked at what he had just said. It hurt, badly. Her and Severus had been perfectly fine before this. She could feel tears stinging her eyes.
“The whole lot of you are idiots!” Lily cried. She bent down, putting her wand in her pocket, and grabbing her bag before slinging it over her shoulder. Quickly, she pushed through the branches, wiping her eyes as she headed towards the castle, her vision blurry.
“Lily,” James called after her as she rushed off. He felt bad for what he had started but he did not regret it, he hoped that Lily would finally see that Snape was not her friend.
James was angry for what he had just said to Lily, and without warning, he punched Snape right in the face, deciding it would be worse then using a wand. “Don’t you ever call her that again,” James shouted staring down at him
Severus yelped and fell to the ground in pain, holding his face. “You will regret that,” he said glaring at Sirius and James. “Just wait.”
Sirius was looking around to make sure no one was coming to Snapes aid, which no one was. As he turned he saw Lily had stopped at the castle doors to see what was happening. “Hey mate,” he said tapping James on the shoulder, while indicating towards Lily with his head.
Lily had stopped when she heard James shout, and she had turned in time to see James clock Severus in the face. Just then, she felt butterflies erupt in her stomach but she was unsure why. Sure James was attractive, she never denied that to anyone, but his maturity level was ridiculously low. “It it wasn’t for him none of this would of happened,” Lily mumbled. But he stood up for you, her mind reminded her.
