Chapter 2
Children began to be called up in alphabetical order. Adora was one of the first to be called up, right after Cristianson, who was a small, pudgy little boy that waddled an awful lot like a penguin. He had gotten into Hufflepuff.
"Crenshaw, Adora." Professor McGonagall called her up. She walked past the other students looking out at the sea of faces. Sitting down on a creaky three-legged stool, the Professor placed a dirty, raggy hat on her head. It slipped down to the tip of her nose and proceeded to talk.
"Ah, Crenshaw. It's been a long time since I've heard this name. Hm... Very feisty, quick to fight, but extremely loyal, almost to a fault. You would fit in well in Slytherin, but also in Ravenclaw. The choice is yours, fate is in your hands," Shocked by what the hat said, she flashed one word in her head.
"SLYTHERIN!" One particular table, over to the far right, cheered emphatically. Adora quickly slipped off the chair and headed to the table that was cheering. She had assumed correctly that this was the Slytherin table. The green helped give it away. It seemed like tens of thousands of more children were called up, each one assigned a house. As each child made their way to their table, their robes magicked a patch to match their house, a snake for Slytherin, a lion for Gryffindor, a badger for Hufflepuff, and an eagle for Ravenclaw. Along with the patches, they received ties in their specified house colors. Slytherins received green and silver, Gryffindors received red and gold, Hufflepuffs received yellow and black, and Ravenclaws received yellow and blue.
As Dumbledore's said his last remarks, Adora looked down her table, surveying the many people that managed to fit onto a table that seemed much smaller when she had first entered the Great Hall. The tables instantaneously filled with food as the hall filled with the loud echoing that was Albus Dumbledore's hands clapping together. Her eyes had never seen so much food. She quickly grabbed for potatoes, turkey, corn and gravy, while also helping herself to a goblet of pumpkin juice. She didn't recognize anyone at her table and was feeling very weary from the ride, so ate in silence.
When everyone was finished, the table cleared itself and the Head Girl, who was thankfully a Slytherin, led them to the passageway to the Slytherin common room.
"Or a blank wall? Well, this is bloody dandy. Now, I don't know where I'm going and neither does the Head Girl. Way to be a big help, I really appreciate it." As she was thinking, the Head Girl looked around to the sea of questioning faces.
"The password this year is "Putus Cruor". If the password is to change, there will be a notice on the notice board, along with announcement of feasts and Hogsmeade trips." With that, everyone filed into the Common Room. Everyone rushed to their rooms, looking for the door that said their name, along with five other students. Each filled with hope that they would not get stuck with someone like Pansy Parkinson.
Adora's room was the first door on the right, along with five other girls, who Adora didn't know and didn't care to.
"Great, if anyone has a killing spree, I'll be the first to die, unless they're left handed." Adora tried to forget about her paranoia and entered the room. Dark oak bed frames, each with a firm mattress with dark, green silk sheets and black pillow cases. The floor was covered in green plush carpet, which black wardrobes. The six beds and wardrobes created a circle around the middle, even with most of the space taken up; it still seemed like a huge room. The window panes were framed in silver, a magicked scene playing out to show the night sky. Adora basked in the elegance and beauty of her room before lying down. She was beat and if they expected her to get up at 7:30 to go eat breakfast. Adora slipped on her "jim-jams" as her grandmother so fondly called them, and tucked herself into the cool blankets.
