chp. 2
Upon entering the Great Hall Harry made his way to the teachers table at the head of the hall and took his seat. Harry watched as Dumbledore took his seat before turning to him with a smile. "Good evening Harry. I hope your classes have been going well?" Plastering what he hoped was an answering smile Harry faced the Headmaster. "Good evening sir. My classes are going very well thank you." "Good, Harry. Very Good."
With that he he sighed a quiet sigh of relief as he watched Dumbledore turn and begin talking to Madam Pomphrey. Picking up his fork he began to pick at his food as questions and accusations began running through his mind. 'How could he sit there and smile at me knowing full well that I had other living family members that could have taken care of me all this time! How could he lie to me about something like this?!" Shaking his head he pushed his untouched plate away from him and stood up. Turning to go he was surprised when he felt someone grab his wrist. "Harry are you alright?" He heard the headmaster ask him in a voice that sounded concerned but that Harry suspected wasn't. Facing the old man again he gave him a slight smile. "I'm fine sir just not hungry is all. I thought that I would go and lie down for a little while." "Are you sure Harry because Madam Pomphrey can check you over if you'd like." "I'm sure sir, I'm fine, just a little tired you know how hyper students can be expecially first years." A feeling of relief settled over him as Dumbledore slowly released his wrist and let him go. "Alright Harry. I hope you have a nice nap." "Thank you sir." Harry told the headmaster before quickly turning and leaving the Great Hall.
'Phew that was close.' he thought to himself as he made his way through the corridors of the school to the front entrance where he gave one last look around him to make sure no one was around and quickly slipped outside pulling the door closed behind him. As he made his way down the steps of the school he briefly though about where he should go from here. There were so many choices to be made. Where to go from here? How to get to St. Louis? Giving himself a mental shake he made his way quietly to the boundary of the school where apparition was possible and with a last glance back toward the school he disappeared, only to reappear moments latter just minutes outside of Hogsmead.
"I wonder if the night bus runs out here? Only one way to find out." He whispered to himself as he raised his wand to summon the bus. He was pleasantly surprised a few seconds later as the bus pulled to a stop in front of him, and the conductor appeared at the door. "Welcome to the night bus sir. Where would you like to go and do you need any help with your luggage?" "No, I only have this bag thank you. As to where to go, I would like to go the Leaky Cauldron. "Very well sir, please take a seat and here is your ticket." Excepting the ticket Harry took a seat toward the center of the bus and held on as the bus quickly sped away.
As the bus made its way to his destination Harry barely noticed the scenery as he was deep in thought. He had made it away from Hogwarts but there was no guarantee that Dumbledore would just let him walk away. Since the battle with Voldemort he had kept a very close eye on the wizarding worlds hero. He had just been to oblivious to notice. But now that he did notice he began to see other aspects of the old wizard that he couldn't believe he hadn't seen before.
It was as if he was just a pawn. A means to an end, and since that end had been met it was as if Dumbledore wanted to keep an even closer eye on him for some reason. But why would he have kept something like that from me?' He wondered as the bus pulled to a stop and the conductor called out his stop.
Stepping off the bus Harry watched for a moment as the bus disappeared around the bend before he turned and saw a cab coming his way. Making sure that his wand was nowhere to be seen he hailed the cab as it came near. Letting out a small sigh as it slowed to a stop in front of him. Walking over to the cab Harry opened the door and climbed inside. Settling himself in the back seat as the driver asked, "Where to?" "To the closest airport." He told the driver. Hoping against hope that his luck would hold out and no one would try to stop him as he made his way to the airport.
Luckily no one did try to stop them and the trip was made in relative silence. The only sounds that could be heard were that of the tires as they whined across the pavement carrying him to his destination. Which was reached in what seemed to be a relatively short amount of time. Thanking the driver Harry asked the man to wait a moment as he walked to an atm machine just inside the airports doors and withdrew some money from his account. Heading back to the car he paid the driver and walked back into the building weaving in and out through the crowds of people hurrying to catch their plans or see people off. Finally making it to the counter he asked the clerk for a ticket on the earliest flight to St. Louis. As the women typed his information into her computer and printed him a ticket she told him, "That would be $400 please." Pulling the money out of his wallet he handed it to the clerk as she handed him his ticket. "Now sir the plane leaves in an hour from gate 4. Thank you and have a nice day." 'A nice day ha!' Harry thought as he took a seat and waited for his flight to be called.
