Chapter 2
“Now Severus let’s not fight. Miss Granger and Ruthie are going to be staying with us for the rest of the summer.” Albus said.
“And when the school year starts….what then? Send the child away?” Severus replied
“I think that she’ll stay here.”
“In this school with all these children? Are you crazy?”
“I should think that it won’t be a problem. We’ll have Miss Granger sit her NEWTS at the end of summer and stay through the year doing an independent study.” Albus replied
“What? You want me to sit my NEWTs in two months? That’s not near enough time to prepare.” Hermione shouted.
“Sure it will be dear. And you’ll have help from all of the staff.” Minerva said emphasizing all.
“Well Minerva, why don’t you show Miss Granger her quarters that she’ll be using this summer and we’ll let the two of them settle in. Severus it looks like you should go with them. It seems you have a calming presence to some.” Albus said.
Snape looked down and saw that Ruthie had fallen asleep in his lap.
“Come on you two, follow me.” Minerva said.
They walked down from the headmaster’s office through the hallway and stopped in front of a painting of a library.
“This is the entrance to your chambers Miss Granger. Through the summer we don’t use passwords just touch the painting and you can go through.”
Hermione touched the painting and they walked through.
“This is your sitting room. Through there (left) is a small kitchen and dining area, and through here, she said walking forward, are your bedrooms and the bathroom.”
“Thank you Prof-er- Minerva, please Professor Snape bring Ruthie through here.”
Hermione led Snape into the room that would be Ruthie’s. He started to lay her down and as soon as he let go she started to cry.
“No no….No go….Stay” she said.
“I’m sorry Professor; it must be all the changes.” Hermione said picking her up.
“Sh baby sh. Go back to sleep sweetie.” She crooned in Ruthie’s ear.
“No not mummy, want Sverus.”
“Give me the child; it’s obvious she doesn’t want you.” Snape said softly.
Hermione handed Ruthie to Snape and he sat down in the chair.
“Sverus stay.” Ruthie said falling back to sleep.
Snape laid her back down on the bed and turned to look at Hermione.
“I’m sorry Professor she’s usually not like this.”
“And how would you know what she’s like Miss Granger? You spent all of last term here, with the exception of Christmas break. So you don’t actually know much about your own daughter.”
“Excuse me sir, but you have know idea what my situation is so I’d appriciate it if you’d shut your mouth. You know the way out I assume.” Hermione said and walked away.
July 10th
Dear Diary,
So much has happened since I last wrote. Albus has invited Ruthie and I to stay here at Hogwarts. He wants me to sit my NEWTs at the end of summer. He wants me to do an independent study during the term.
Ruthie has taken such a liking to Professor Snape it’s amazing. The first day we were here she made him put her to bed. Every time she sees him she runs to him yelling Sverus. He tolerates her like no one I’ve ever seen. Eh seems to like her, and she thinks the world of him. No one, others than those who’ve actually seen it, will ever believe me. I’ve had study sessions with a couple of the teachers so far, I’m just worried that I’m not ready yet. They all assure me that I’ll ace them. Well everyone but Snape. He basically ignores me. Ruthie’s waking from her nap so it’s time to go.
“Come on Ruthie let’s go to dinner.”
“Sverus?”
“Yes, honey he’ll probably be there.”
”NO! No Sverus eat. Sverus bad man.”
“Honey Severus isn’t a bad man.”
“No bad Sverus….bad man hurt Sverus…”
She can’t be saying what I think she’s saying can she?
“Is Severus with the bad man honey?”
Ruthie nodded her head yes.
Hermione and Ruthie walked to the Great hall and Severus wasn’t there.
“Albus he can’t go on much longer like this. Who knows what will happen this time. It’s the third day in a row he’s been called.” Minerva said
“He won’t stop. I’ve tried, I really have. He won’t listen to reason.” Albus replied.
Dinner was served and everyone started eating. A half and hour later dinner was finished and Hermione and Ruthie went to their rooms. Ruthie played quietly while Hermione studied. About nine Hermione stated getting Ruthie ready for bed. She gave her a bath and put on her pajamas. They sat down and read a story.
“Mummy Sverus hurt bad.”
“What sweetie?”
“Sverus hurt….bad man boo boo.”
“Alright let’s go see if we can find him.”
They walked into the hall and started down towards the dungeons, but Ruthie started pulling her the other way.
“Hosptal mummy.”
“Okay let’s check the Hospital wing.”
Hermione picked her up so they could get there faster.
“I’m sorry to bother you Poppy, but is Professor Snape here? Ruthie won’t go to sleep until she sees him.”
“Yes dear, Hagrid brought him up a few minutes ago. I don’t know if she should see him like this though. He’s pretty bad, the worst I’ve seen since your fourth year.”
“We’ll just be a minute.”
“Okay I’ll be right over here if you need me.”
“Thank you Poppy.”
Hermione and Ruthie walked over the curtained are that Severus laid behind. Ruthie started squirming to get down, so Hermione set her down and grabbed for her hand but before she could Ruthie ran to the bed.
“Sverus.” She cried and flung herself at him.
“Professor I’m so sorry. She just wouldn’t go to sleep until she saw you.” Hermione said walking up to the bed. Her heart melted at the sight of the potions master hugging her daughter.
“She knew didn’t she?” He asked.
“Yes she did. I’m not quite sure how but she insisted on seeing you.”
“It’s alright little one.” He whispered to Ruthie, and then to Hermione he said. “She knew that first day too. That’s why she came over to me. It’s the innocent who help clear the evil. Most people don’t realize it.”
“Sverus better now?”
“I’m getting there little one.”
”We really didn’t mean to disturb you sir. Come on Ruthie let’s get to bed now.”
“No!”
“Honey he needs his sleep, so he can get better.”
“Me sleep here, make it better”
“Honey we need to get to bed too.”
”NO NO NO! Sleep here!”
“It’s alright Miss Granger she can stay here; I won’t maim her in her sleep.” Severus said
“I wasn’t worried about that sir. I just know that you need rest.”
Hermione looked down and saw that they were both asleep.
“I guess we’re sleeping here for the night” Hermione said to herself. Hermione curled up on the chair and also fell asleep.
(Hours Later)
“Does Snape have a kid we don’t know about?” A voice whispered.
“Who knew he had a heart?” another one replied.
