Chapter 2

Two years later Erika woke up with a start. She had been having a very bad dream. In her dream everyone thought she didn’t existed. How was that possible? She looked around her. Wait, this wasn’t her room. Where was she? Maybe she really was dead.

“Well, finally you’re awake. Everyone’s been so worried about you.”

She turned to look at the owner of the voice and saw a tall red haired guy smiling warmly at her. His smile vanished when he noticed the look of panic on her face. “Where am I? And who are you?”

He sighed and slowly approached the bed. “Mom warned me that you’d be a little disoriented when you wake up but she never mentioned that you wouldn’t be able to recognize me.”

She looked at him in confusion. “Do I know you?”

“I’m Fred Weasley and you are inside my family’s house. We call it The Burrow.”

Erika gazed at him in disbelief. No, this has got to be some kind of joke. She can’t be inside a book!

“Fred, is she awake?” she heard a woman’s high-pitched voice ask from below.

“Yes mom, but I don’t think she’s taking the news well.” Fred shouted back.

Several footsteps could be heard approaching the room and three men, a young woman and a middle-age woman with the same red hair entered the room.

Erika closed her eyes and tried to will the hallucinations away but they were still there when she opened her eyes.

“Are you alright dear?” the middle-aged woman asked, her voice filled with concern.

“I um- could anyone please tell me what’s going on? What am I doing in this world?”

“Oh good, she realizes that she’s not in her own world, that’s a start,” the older man sighed in relief.

“Do you recognize what world you are in dear?”

She nodded her head, “This is Harry Potter’s world.”

One of the boys chuckled, “Bugger, Harry’s really popular in their world.”

“I’ve been here before?!” she asked in an alarmed voice.

The woman shot the boy a warning look that quieted him down in no time at all. She then turned her attention back to Erika and rubbed her back to calm her down. “Now, relax dear. I need you to relax so you can remember what happened to you.”

Erika nodded and slowly closed her eyes.

The Weasley family watched as Erika’s breathing became labored and a look of pain crossed her face. When she opened her eyes tears started to trickle down her face. “Oh Molly, can’t I really go back home?”

“I’m afraid not yet my dear. Not until we find out who put that memory spell on your family, friends and everyone you know in the muggle world.”

“Who would want to do such a thing to me? I mean, I haven’t done anything to anyone.”

Molly Weasley sympathetically nodded her head, “I understand dear. We’re trying the best we can to find out who did this to you.”

“I can’t go back there?”

“I’m afraid that’s not possible Erika. Even the Ministry couldn’t do anything until the culprit is discovered. They also want answers on why someone would do this to you.”

“What am I going to do here? I’m a muggle, I don’t fit here. This is the wizarding world and I am no witch,” she cried.

Molly embraced her tightly, “Ssshhh, don’t worry dear. We’ll take care of you. You know you’re like a daughter to me already.”

Ginny approached the bed and squeezed Erika’s hand, “Everything will be alright Erika.”

Fred Weasley checked the room Erika was staying in to see if she was alright. He got worried when he didn’t find her there.

“Mom, have you seen Erika?” he asked when he reached the kitchen where he found his mother busy with the house chores.

“I think she went out a few hours ago. She said she wanted to think.”

“You let her leave on her own? Mom, she’s a wreck right now. Who knows what she’s thinking.” He rushed out of the Burrow to look for her.

Inside all Molly Weasley could do was smile at the way his son acted.

He found her sitting beneath a tall tree inside the forest near the Burrow. She was so deep in thought that she didn’t notice Fred sit down beside her.

“You really shouldn’t wander off like that on your own around here.”

Slowly she turned to look at him and gave him a weak smile. “I’m sorry if I made you worry. It’s just that I wanted to be alone for a while to think.”

Fred nodded his head and leaned back on the tree.

It was already starting to get dark and still she remained lost in her own thoughts. Finally she sighed and looked at his worried face. “I apologize for behaving so childishly earlier.”

“We understand. What happened to you was really a big deal.”

She nodded her head, “But I have to adjust. Nothing will happen to me if I just cry and sulk in a corner. Besides, it’s not as if my studies were going well either. It can wait and I’m sure my family will eventually remember me when I return.”

Fred smiled encouragingly and placed his hand on Erika’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, I’m here and my family’s here. We’ll make sure that you can go back to your own family.”

“I don’t want to be a burden. There must be something around here I can do which does not require magic.”

“Well, you can be my secretary.”

Erika shook her head, “You already have a secretary Fred and I don’t want you to fire her.”

“But you said you were jealous of her.”

“I never said that.”

“You didn’t but that’s how you acted.”

“Alright, I admit I was jealous of her. She gets to spend so much time with you and she gets to wait on you hand and foot.”

“You have nothing to be jealous about because it’s you that I love and not her.”

“I know, that’s why I don’t want you to fire her. I’ve gotten to know Dana and I like her. Maybe you can hire me as a storekeeper.”

“You want to be a storekeeper like Verity? Are you sure?”

“Well, don’t you think it will be better than me helping Molly with the house chores?”

Fred laughed at the mental image of Erika doing the house chores.

She poked him on the ribs with her elbow and pretended to be angry by giving him a nasty look. “It’s not that funny you know.”

He rubbed the part of his rib where her elbow made contact. Of course he knew that she was only faking her anger. This wasn’t the sort of thing that made her angry or irritated. “Admit it. It is funny to picture you trying to do the house chores.”

Her face was serious but after a while she grinned, “Yeah, you’re right. Molly would probably beg me to stop trying to help her since I’m making an even bigger mess.”

They both laughed for a while.

Fred stood up and held out his hand for her to hold on to. “Come on, it’s already dark. We need to get back to the Burrow.”

Erika took his hand and pulled herself up. Fred didn’t let go of her hand as they walked back home.

“Ok, I’ll hire you as a storekeeper.”

She stopped walking and looked at him. “Really?”

“Yes.”

Erika hugged him and kissed him on the cheek. “Thank you Fred.”

He blushed and took her hand again as they continued walking.
