Part One.
Chapter One: The Memories of Severus Snape.
The calendar on the wall would have seemed off had one not known that this was a pensive memory. It read 1st August 1980.
Lilly Snape Potter was sitting in a chair nursing her newborn, James Potter and Severus Snape were having an argument, as if that were something new.
“I’m telling you for the last time Potter you and Lilly must go to America. Not even the Dark Lord can apperate there and the Ministry certainly is not going to give him a trans-oceanic portkey.” Severus said hotly.
“I am not going anywhere. I owe my parents to fight Him. You know that. It’s the same reason that we are even on the same side Snivelus.” James Potter said arrogantly.
“James Potter you will cease calling your brother-in-law that immediately.” Lilly said walking into the room. “I will not have my brother insulted especially not in my presence.”
“Potter for the last time. My only interest is in the safety of my nephew and if the headmaster is correct about this prophesy and the Dark Lord takes this seriously he will be coming after you as well as the Longbottoms. Who I need to speak to next.” Severus said coldly. “Lilly, I urge you to consider going to America. I will avenge mother without you, but I cannot allow my infant nephew to be wand fodder for either side.” Severus said more warmly.
“Sev, we’ll consider it. James may not be able to set his pride aside long enough to think about the consequences. But I am a mother and I must. Although I do wish that I could play a bigger role in this.” Lilly said her green eyes full of passion.
“Besides Snape…I need to speak on this matter with the Headmaster himself. If anyone can come up with an alternate plan than running to America it would be him.” James said trying to be polite, but sounding more like an arrogant child.
“Very well then. Lilly I must know that you will take every caution that can be taken into account and not going off half-cocked like some Gryffindor.” Severus said.
“Sev. I will do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of my child. I was sorted into the same house you were, you of all people should know that I will not take chances that need not be made.” Lilly said resolutely.
The pensive memory then faded to black.

Harry pulled yet an other strand of thought and placed it into a vial after reliving the memory his uncle had left him.
It was sometime later than the first but in the same room this time the calendar reading 30th July 1981.
“But I’m sure we can trust Peter, Snape.” James said quietly.
“And I do not. I am only not whisking Lilly and Harry off to America because the Headmaster assures me that this is adequate precautions.” Severus said coldly.
“Sev, look I don’t like this anymore than you do. But Dumbledore is certain.” Lilly said. Over the past few months of being only cooped up with Potter, Black and Lupin on occasion due to the nature of her and her son’s situation she had become more trusting of the Light Lord.
“Look. Not that I don’t think that the Headmaster doesn’t know what he is doing. But I just simply cannot trust him. He is a Light Lord and for all I know he may well have set this up as a means to eliminate his primary enemy.” Severus said quietly.
“Sev, you are too suspicious for your own good. Besides Dumbledore and Sirius are right. The Dark Lord would never suspect poor weak Peter being our secret keeper.” Lilly said handing Harry to his father.
“I still would feel better had Black taken this job. At least he is Harry’s godfather.” Severus said before turning to leave.
“Sev, We’ll be fine.” Lilly said resolutely before the memory faded to black.

Harry sat back at his desk in the study in the Manor. He rose and poured himself a glass of fire-whiskey from the crystal decanter that Draco had given him so many years ago. The study which had been redecorated since its last occupant Lucius Malfoy died was done up in fine silvers and emerald green although it had the most beautiful slate blue carpet that Harry could find.
Harry took in the beautiful room that Draco had had decorated for him, the rich mahogany wainscoting the book cases in oak and cherry, filled with books from muggle shilling novels to ancient books written in parsletounge. He wondered for a moment at how long it would be before he left this room for the final time. He sighed and decided to get on with his work and sat back at his desk and removed a sheaf of fine cream parchment, yet an other trace of Draco as Harry would have simply bought the cheapest parchment available. It was the function that mattered to him, not the form, whereas Draco insisted on fine form as well as function.
He began to write after dipping his quill into ink.
“The rest as they say is history. I have no memory of the night that it happened however on 31 October 1981 the Dark Lord Voldemort went after my parents. It seems that Uncle Severus was correct in his estimation that Peter Pettigrew was not an acceptable secret keeper. Although in hindsight neither was my godfather Sirius Black who was killed in battle two days prior. Pettigrew was found to be a Death Eater and had betrayed my parents. Fortunately after he was apprehended by me in the second part of the war he was painfully relieved of his life.
“The only other person who had a memory of that night was Voldemort himself and he certainly isn’t around to give us the details. However, Uncle Severus told me once that after the event he went to check on my mother to see that the Fidelus Charm was still in place. Upon seeing the house and the house in ruins he investigated and found me. He later found out that Dumbledore had planned for me to be sent to some muggle cousins as ‘protection’. I met these muggles later in life. I doubt that there I would have been protected. They were pitiful creatures as muggles are.”
Harry sighed. He didn’t know if it was really necessary to extract all his uncle’s memories of the time before he was seven. There just didn’t seem to be a point to him. So he inked his quill again and then began to write.
“My Uncle Severus Snape took over the raising me, but not without protest from the then Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore.” ‘May Dumbledore rot in hell.’ Harry thought ruefully.
“However, the connection by blood was stronger and more relevant to the Wizengamot than it was to the Headmaster who decided that it would be prudent to bring it there to try and force my Uncle to surrender custody to him. Obviously so he could send me to muggles who could only manage to cower in my presence when I was an adult, but doubtless would have taken to abuse should I had went to them as a defenceless child.
“Severus after winning the right to retain custody of me then promptly resigned as potions master at Hogwarts and then went to work in the apothecary on Knockturn Ally. True the pay was less but Hogwarts was not a place that he wanted me to be at until I had had the opportunity to at least have some semblance of a normal childhood. If that was even possible.
“I grew up as any other Wizarding child would. But I do not remember all that much of it. I wish I could but I doubt anyone really remembers their very young childhood at all.”
Harry finished his writing and took an other sip of fire-whiskey. He was sure that this was the right course of action but the question is which child should he bequeath these memories and notes to? Scorpius would be too busy with a war between himself and James. The day that Scorpius was born and felt the raw power emanating from the child he knew a war was inevitable. It was not good for a country to have more than one Lord Level wizard or witch and almost ended up in civil war unless they both declared for the same force of magic. The Light or the Dark.
That meant that James who had divorced himself from his family was out of the question and he didn’t wish to burden Scorpius. Albus Severus would probably be busy either fighting or trying to maintain their business on Diagon Ally in that case. Lilly seemed to be his only choice.
‘That’s it. I’ll leave these to Lilly, she will know what to do with them.’ Harry thought as he drank the last of his fire-whiskey.
