Hermione's Hell
Chapter 2 Hermione’s Hell
Granger Residence
Hermione had spent most of her summers taking correspondence courses to get a High School Diploma since she got her Hogworts letter. But now that she was in her sixth year at Hogworts she had already finished her High School Diploma and had a Bachelor’s Degree in Law. Everyone at school thought she was a know-it-all and they were right.
She was obsessed with books and learning. But she was not obsessed for the reasons that other people thought she was. Hermione didn’t want to rub her knowledge in everyone’s face she didn’t want to have to be the one who was the teacher’s pet and who’s hand was always up in the air. She had no choice but to be though. Her parents were exacting in what they expected from her and she learned long ago that it was better to always do as Mummy and Daddy said. She certainly had the scars to prove the lessons.
The easiest way to being left alone was to excel scholastically. So she worked hard enough to pass every class with perfect marks and still made sure to pass exams in muggle schooling when she was on break. But it was never good enough. She always got something just wrong enough for them to be upset. This latest set of grades was almost perfect. Almost being the key word. Potions. It was the only class she had gotten less than perfect marks in and yet it was enough.
Enough, that is, to bring her mother’s temper down on her. She had a black eye, bruised face, a split lip, her arm was broken in three places and several ribs were broken. All for one grade that was merely Exceeds Expectations. At least her grades in the muggle world were good enough that her mother had been easily (and she used the term lightly) persuaded to let her be so she could study for her master’s exams. At least her father was away on a business trip… if he wasn’t well she didn’t even want to think about it.
*Tap tap tap * Hermione looked over at her window quickly and saw a raven. She quickly went over and opened the window (albeit a bit awkwardly because her right arm was in a sling) before her mother heard the noise and came to see what her daughter was doing.
Dear Miss Granger,
It is my duty to inform you that the headmaster requires your presence at headquarters this evening, as it is an emergency you should make your way there quickly.
