Hermione

A/N: The potion is of my own creation, as is the plant.

Chapter One: Hermione.

It took me half an hour after the battle to remember I’d cast a stasis spell over the almost Dead Professor Snape! That’s the second time I’ve hexed the Potion’s teacher! As technically, the stasis spell (totus subsisto) was used against the goblins in the goblin wars; therefore it is considered a hex, rather than a charm. It’s a nice little bit of magic, stopping all bodily function for twelve hours; unfortunately, if the hex is not lifted after that time, the victim dies, as body function ceases to re-start.

I know of a potion that will remove the venom from his system – but I can’t remember all of the ingredients or its method! And if I don’t, Professor Snape will be definitely dead – either through poisoning or stasis.

I dragged Harry and a reluctant Ron to help me move him; I don’t know how other charms will react with the stasis spell, so I won’t risk levitating him back to the castle. Ron complained the whole way back from the Shrieking Shack – why should he have to carry the snarky git? why should he have to waste his energy for the man who took the most points from Gryffindor?

Harry pointed out that if we didn’t get him back to Hogwarts that he’d die. I was mortified to hear Ron mutter ‘Good Riddance’ under his breath. If Ron weren’t one of my best friends (and carrying Professor Snape), I’d have hexed him right there. After everything Professor Snape has done for the wizarding world and Hogwarts – all at his own expense – he doesn’t deserve such horrible words!

It took too long to get him into the hospital wing; I have twelve hours to (a) remember what book I read the potion in; (b) gather all the ingredients – hoping all are available; (c) produce the potion, not knowing how long it will take; and (d) administer it to Professor Snape – bearing in mind he is in stasis and therefore unable to swallow; and that the stasis cannot be ended until the potion is within his body.

After settling the frozen Professor into a bed, giving Madam Pomfrey strict instructions to cast no spells near him, or allow visitors; I ran for the library, hoping it had escaped the carnage of the battle. It hadn’t, but the book I wanted was still intact under a pile of rubble… The potion I had been thinking of would take six hours to brew – and I hadn’t a chance of getting hold of one of the ingredients required, who has vampire blood in their potions stores? It is one of the most volatile chemicals known to wizard-kind! Should sunlight hit it, it would spontaneously combust!

Another, more simpler antidote to the venom caught my eye:

aufero spurcamen paste for removing toxins from wounds and blood.

Ingrediants:

1 bezoar.

25 drops pure water.

9 drops of freshly gathered Decorus dentibus nectar.

6 drops unicorn blood.

Method:

1)Grind bezoar into a fine powder.

2)Add powder to a gold cauldron, on the lowest heat.

3)Spell wand sterile.

4)Add water dropwise, stirring once clockwise after each drop is added.

5)Add nectar dropwise, stirring anti-clockwise five times after each drop.

6)Add two drops of unicorn blood, stirring seven times clockwise after their addition.

7)Add one drop of unicorn blood, stirring clockwise three times.

8)Add one drop of unicorn blood, stirring clockwise six times.

9)Add two drops of unicorn blood, stirring anticlockwise seventeen times

10)Leave to simmer until paste turns lilac.

11)Apply all caldron contents to wound while still warm using a sterile gold spreader; only patient’s skin should touch the paste.

My only problem – getting hold of unicorn blood; until a footnote pointed out that there was a substitute available… what was the lesser of two evils? Attacking a unicorn, or self-mutilation?

With my mind made up, I went to find Neville – I’d need his help with the Decorus dentibus plant.
