The exchange of blood

The first thing Harry realized when he came to was that he wasn't on the ground anymore, he was in a large, comfy four post bed.

"He is awake, Aiden," a woman's voice announced.

He turned his head, surprised that it didn't hurt. Standing in the doorway was a beautiful woman with blond hair, she was smiling kindly at Harry.

"Thank you, Alexandria," a man said, walking in from the room behind her.

The man was tall and had a rather large build. His eyes were gold and they seemed to move as he stared down at Harry.

"I am Aiden Savage, you were bleeding on my property."

"Aiden, don't be a brute!" the woman in the doorway reprimanded. "I'm Alex, macho man here is my husband."

Harry smiled at her, she seemed sweet, while her husband seemed like he could rip Harry in two without breaking a sweat.

"You are a wizard," Aiden stated, causing Harry to jerk around and stare at him.

"You didn't respond to basic human first-aid, so we tried magic and it worked," he explained.

"Oh, yeah, I am a wizard," Harry replied, slightly confused. If they were wizards, they would know who he is. He wasn't trying to sound suck-up, but everyone in the magical world knew who he was, in every country. "What are you?"

Savage smirked and Alex gave him a shocked look.

"We are Carpathian," Aiden replied casually, sitting in a high back chair and leaning back to pull his wife over to him.

"So you are vampires?"

"No," Aiden chuckled as he seated his wife on his lap. "It is a common misconception. We are race of people, who do drink blood, but never kill the humans we feed from. They never ever know we are feeding off them."

"Then what is a vampire?"

"When a Carpathian male is born, we have emotions like humans do, but after we have lived for around 150 years, all color and emotion leave us and we are thrown into a world of darkness and emptiness. The only time we feel anything is during the hunt or when we find our life mates." Aiden gently caressed Alex on the cheek as he continued, "Some males kill a human they are feeding from and turn. They become the undead, the diseased. The lucky ones, find their life mate, the woman made for them, she balances out their darkness, brings color and emotion back to them."

"So, you are life mates?" Harry asked, nodding to the two of them.

"Oh, I put up with him." Alex smiled, giving the harsh looking man a kiss on the bridge of his nose.

"So, can you go into the sun?"

"Yes, we can, but bright light hurts us and can kill us. Vampires can't be in any sunlight, even the weak light," Alex explained, playing with the signet ring on Aiden's hand.

"Am I allowed to leave or are you going kill me?" Harry had to ask.

Aiden smiled at this and Alex fell into a fit of laughter.

"Of course you can leave. Carpathians and wizards did have a war between them long ago, but that has past now," Aiden explained. "We just ask that you don't go telling everyone where we are. We don't mind people knowing about us, but we do mind them coming to kill us because they think we are vampires."

"But you aren't vampires," Harry said, confused.

"To vampire hunters, we are the same. That is why there are so few of us left. We are immortal... to time, but not to wooden stakes and shotguns."

"That sucks."

"Thanks... I think," Aiden answered. "There is something you should know about though. You may feel some physical changes."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you had a curse on you that we didn't know, well, Aiden didn't know, and he had to drink your blood to figure it out. Then, because none of the treatments were working, Aiden gave you some of his blood, to flush out the curse."

Harry stared at Alex while she spoke with wide eyes.

"You turned me into a Carpathian?"

"No," Alex laughed. "You need to exchange blood three times for that. You may have some increased senses. Like increased sense of smell or hearing. You won't want to drink blood or anything."

"Oh," was all Harry could say as he let out a breath.

"I think you should rest some more, then we can talk about getting you home," Aiden said, standing and setting Alex on her feet. "We will return in the evening to check on you."

"Okay, and thank you for saving me," Harry said, giving the two a small, slightly embarrassed smile.

Aiden gave him a nod, then turned to leave, pulling Alex with him.

"You're welcome... wait what is your name? Let go of me, Brutus, I'm talking!" Alex turned out of Aiden's grasp to hear Harry's reply.

"I'm Harry, Harry Potter," he replied, giving her another smile.

"Oh! Nice to meet you! Sleep well," she said, turning to give her life mate a glare, that would have been a little scary had she not been smiling.

Harry laid back against the pillows as they left.

He looked around to get a good view of the room. The rooms main color was brown with hints of deep red and forest green. His bed was covered with brown sheets and a brown comforter.

Snuggling into them he thought about his friends and the Weasley's, they were probably beside themselves. 'I will contact them when I wake up, I am terribly tired.'

With that thought, Harry feel asleep, dreaming of Carpathians and vampires... and a woman with sparkling blue eyes.
