Harry awoke once again to voices. He mused that he spent way to much time unconscious. This time though he felt better physically than he had for a long time. He listened intently to the conversation that he was not supposed to hear.

“Albus, I am telling you, this is not the Harry Potter that we know.”

“I understand what you are saying Severus, but I don’t see that as the most likely explanation. He may have a head injury, or some other mental illness.”

“I disagree, but let it be on your head. If you are not careful you will alienate a very powerful wizard. You have allowed this school to fall into prejudice, that caused me and Harry pain, and now you are making an even more grievous error. That person has seen a lot of death and has already lived through our war, do you really think that he will take well to your manipulations?”

Harry tuned out the rest of what they were saying. He was once again struck by hearing a dead man speak. He was under no illusions about the extent that Dumbledore would manipulate those around him, and he found himself strangely worried for the Snape in this world. Things were clearly different, but there was nothing to suggest that this Dumbledore wouldn’t also ask for the ultimate sacrifice, just as his own had. He had loved the old man, but talking to the man after death had certainly been enlightening.

He tightly closed his eyes, as he he heard his mentor approach. This would, he knew be at the least draining, and he suspected that it would be painful. There was a large part of him that thought that he had already done what fate wanted, why couldn’t he just rest? Even as the thought crossed his mind, another part of him acknowledged that he had been spared death at an early age just to be a pawn. He didn’t believe for a moment the his mother had this in mind, but the greater good always seemed to call.

“Harry?”

Reluctantly he opened his eyes, and took in the man that had made his like what it was, both good and bad. “ Headmaster?”

“What happened my boy?” The twinkle was full blown.

Drawing in a deep breath, Harry decided that once again, he didn’t have enough information to try a lie. “I have somehow been transported into your world. I have already faced, and in my world won against Voldemort. I died, at least sort of. I talked to you, and got the real story about your sister, and your ambition. I know that you regret some things about your past, and I know why you had to face Grindelwald. I know that some choices have to be made for the greater good, I also know that you made choices that cost people their lives, and served no real purpose. Please don’t try again to make me into a weapon. I have loved you, but you seem to not be able to really love me back.”

The twinkling, dimmed, and the man seemed to be taken aback. “How have I wronged you?”

“In this world, I don’t know. I gather from what I heard that you still are spreading anti Slytherin propaganda, but other than that I don’t know of any personal slight. I assume that I would be right in believing that I am a Slytherin in this world.”

“Where you not in your own world?”

Harry smiled a bit as he remembered the conversation with the sorting hat. “No. I was a Gryffindor. The hat wanted me to be a Slytherin, but the people that you had introduced me to thought that they were evil, so I argued.”

The older man blanched a bit. “Are you telling me you won an argument with the sorting hat?”

“Yes. I told it anywhere but Slytherin, and it told me that I could be great in there but that I could fit into any house, and finally decided on Gryffindor. In retrospect, I think at that stage of my life, it was a good thing. Now I am not so sure. I could have been useful among the little snakes, maybe some of them wouldn’t have had to die. I don’t really know, and they always say hindsight is 20 20, but I do wonder.” It was always in his mind. What would have happened if he had just let the hat do what it wanted to? Would he have been better or worse off? He didn’t know, but part of him thought that although he may have had a rougher time of it at times, that some of the people that died might not have. It was all fruitless, so he dropped the line of thought.

Albus cleared his throat and looked at the clock. “Perhaps, I should let you sleep.”

“That would probably improve, both our dispositions” Harry pointed out with a yawn.

The twinkle was back as the old man nodded his head. “Until tomorrow then, Harry. I have much to think about.”

“Good night, Headmaster. I will speak to you tomorrow.”

It was with a relieved sigh that he watched the older man leave. This was difficult to say the least and he didn’t want to drive a wedge between them if he could help it. Harry groaned as the hospital wing once again opened and Malfoy walked through. He watched warily as the boy seemed to be looking around. “What do you want, Malfoy?”

The Blond looked up in what could only be called surprise, before he actually grinned. “I think that you know what I want, Potter. I just had to make sure we were alone to get it.”

TBC if you want it to. I can't deny that I am a review whore.
