Chapter 2 – Breakfast
Chapter 2 – Breakfast
Rose awoke at around dawn, she got up and ready but decided against wearing a glamour charm as it would have been too complicated to keep up everyday, so it would be easier to let everyone see what she really looked like. She had her excuses ready, as she obviously couldn’t tell them what she really was.
Rose made her way quickly to the Great Hall; she was glad that it was early because it meant that there were less people to stare at her. She didn’t think that she could face the whole school just yet.
When Rose finished her breakfast, her timetable appeared on her now magically clean plate. Her first lesson was Care of Magical Creatures, which was going to be interesting.
As more people entered the Great hall, Rose realised how late it was getting so she hurriedly made her way back to her rooms where Firelight was no doubt waiting for her.
Her rooms where quite large and obviously in Griffindor colours. She had a smaller version of the Griffindor common room; it had a large fireplace and comfortable chairs around a coffee table. There was also a desk in the corner of the room so that she could work downstairs rather than in her bedroom.
There was one door other than the exit, and Rose opened it and found that it lead into the actual Griffindor common room. Rose made a hasty retreat back to her rooms and she strongly warded the door just to make sure that no one accidentally found their way in.
She went upstairs and found her new bedroom. It was again quite large with a four-poster bed, a wardrobe, another writing desk and a bookcase that, she could see, had been filled with books.
Through the other door in her bedroom there was a bathroom, it was almost completely marble and in the centre there was a large sunken bathtub that could have easily have fitted for people in it.
Firelight was sitting on the bed looking extremely disgruntled. Firelight was around the size of a unicorn foal, and he looked a lot like one as well, but his fur was back and it was streaked with red and gold, a lot like Rose’s hair. He had a small horn, which was gold, and his eyes were bright blue. He could also talk and was hardly ever quiet.
Firelight was originally a normal unicorn foal. Rose found him when he was near death. She was eight years old and she did the only thing she could to save him. When she healed him both of them changed and the next thing Rose knew they looked the way they did now and Aurors surrounded them.
The Aurors took her and Firelight to the Ministry of Magic. It was then after the questioned her did they realise that she was a muggle and that she knew nothing of the magical world. She remember then trying everything to modify her memory but nothing worked; in the end the Minister of Magic himself had to come down and apologise before sending her home.
She later on received a letter stating that she had to register herself and Firelight as a new breed. He went down to the Ministry and registered Firelight as a new breed called Midnight Fire, however she refused to register herself as she said they would treat her as an animal when she was most definitely human. She even got the Minister to say she didn’t have to register but that was only because she threatened to go to the press about the way she was treated.
Since then Rose had been immersed in the wizarding world and Firelight became her familiar as well as her best friend.
‘You left me,’ Firelight’s annoyed voice interrupted her thoughts, ‘and I’m starving. Let’s go to breakfast.’
‘I’ve already been,’ Rose admitted blushing.
‘Then come again with me,’ Firelight insisted, already on his way out of the door.
Rose entered the Great Hall along with her familiar; it was busy now, with almost everyone chatting noisily.
As the two of them made their way to the Griffindor table, all the chatter stopped and Rose was aware of every single persons’ eyes on her. This didn’t stop Firelight from summoning the food he wanted as soon as he reached the table. Rose laughed at this and she quickly put it on a plate and put it on the floor so that he could reach it more easily.
‘As you can see,’ Dumbledore announced, ‘we have a new student, Rose, please don’t hassle her as she has had a long journey. Now please stop staring and go back to your meals.’
Rose sighed with relief as everyone slowly went back to their conversations and noise began to fill the hall.
‘Hi,’ a girl said as she sat down on Rose’s left, ‘I’m Hermione Granger.’
‘Rose,’ she stated offering her hand out, ‘it’s nice to meet you Hermione.’
The girl gestured to the boys sitting opposite her, ‘this is Ron Weasley,’ she said pointing to the red-haired boy, ‘and this is Harry Potter, but obviously you know who he is.’
Rose nodded, trying not grimace as she remembered that she would have to talk to him as some point and she knew that it wouldn’t be an easy task.
‘Aren’t you going to introduce me?’ Firelight asked indignantly, clambering on the table next to Rose, as he couldn’t fit on the seat.
Rose laughed at her friend, ‘this is Firelight, and he is my somewhat talkative familiar.’
She looked up when she felt someone staring at her. She saw a blonde haired Slytherin staring intently at her.
Puzzled by this she turned to Hermione, ‘who’s that?’
‘That’s Draco Malfoy, he’s a prick but he’s nothing to worry about really.’

When the girl walked into the Great Hall, Draco found himself completely drawn to her and unable to look away. She was unusual looking but he thought she was beautiful.
He thought she must have been part veela or something else obscure and he found himself wanting to get to know her or at least find out what made him so attracted to her.
