Chapter 2

Harry groaned as he pulled himself up off the floor. Looking around he noticed that he wasn’t in Hogwarts anymore.

He was standing in the middle of a dark room, the only lighting coming from torches on the walls. The room was large with stone floors, walls and ceiling. The only thing in it apart from him was a huge black cauldron with some sort of liquid bubbling away inside. He was alone.

“I wouldn’t say you were alone,” came a joyful chuckle from behind him.

Harry yelped and jumped six feet in the air.

Swinging around Harry found himself looking at a man, who he thought looked rather familiar. Golden brown hair, light brown eyes, and a grin as large as his heart shaped face.

Harry couldn’t help it when he fell on his butt on the floor a dizzy spell washing over him.

“Don’t scare him to death Godric,” another, more mature, voice said.

Harry gulped before tilting his head back and finding the owner of the other voice.

The man standing behind him also looked familiar, blonde hair, blue eyes, long face accentuated by his high cheek bones.

“A bit late for that isn’t it Salazar,” Godric replied.

Suddenly it all clicked.

“Your Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin,” Harry whispered.

“That’s right Harry,” Godric said grinning.

“How did you know my name?” Harry asked frowning.

“Everybody knows your name. Your father and godfather bloody won’t shut up about you.”

“You’ve seen them?” Harry asked excited before frowning, “Am I dead?”

“No,” Salazar stated.

“Then I’m alive,” Harry said.

“I’m afraid not Harry,” Godric said walking over and pulling Harry to his feet.

“But if I’m not dead and I’m not alive what am I?” Harry asked bewildered.
“You are in what muggles like to call Limbo,” Godric explained, “You see it really isn’t your time to pass on but you get a choice you see. That’s why we’re here. We copped Limbo duty this month. Mind you I thought it involved a pole and dancing but hey this isn’t all that bad.”

Harry chuckled at Godric.

“So I can pass on and be with my family if I want?” Harry asked looking at the two men.

“If you want,” Salazar said, “However it is our job to show you both sides of the galleon.”

“You see Harry as great as it may sound to pass over and be with your family we have to make sure you do it with a clear heart otherwise the consequences could be bad,” Godric continued.

“A clear heart?” Harry asked.

“Yes you see there are a lot of people back in the living world that could do with your help and guidance and there are still things that you have to do,” Godric said, “We’re just here to make sure you know you have a bigger roll to play.”

“Okay tell me. Why should I go back down where a mad man is trying to kill me?” Harry whispered, “And not stay here where my family is, the one thing I have always wanted?”

“What about Remus Lupin do you care so little about him that you’d abandon him in his time of need?” Salazar said flatly.

“Of course not,” Harry growled, “But I can’t help him. He’s wasting away slowly and the only thing that can save him is Sirius coming back to life,”

Salazar and Godric looked at each other.

“They’re mated?” Salazar asked.

Harry nodded and said, “Remus didn’t realise it until Sirius died. He’s gone downhill ever since.”

Salazar and Godric looked at each other again before Godric walked close and leaned down by Harry’s ear.

“If you decide that you will go back, and I’m sure you will, you’ll meet three people who will give you guidance before you’re put back in your body ask the second person how to fix your and Remus’s need for family,” Godric whispered.

Harry opened his mouth to ask more but got a shake of the head from Salazar and so closed his mouth.

“Come over here,” Salazar and moved towards the cauldron.

When Harry was beside it Salazar dipped his finger into the liquid.

“I’m going to show you the scene you left behind,” Salazar said before looking into the cauldron.

Harry looked into the cauldron and gasped.

Severus and Dumbledore were crouched behind the Headmaster’s desk throwing spells at the Death Eaters trying to keep them at bay until the cavalry arrived.

Harry looked around trying to find his body. Suddenly the scene changed and there he was.

To say he was shocked was an understatement.

He was hidden behind a chair a few feet away from Severus and Dumbledore but that wasn’t the part he was shocked about. No it was the fact that his body was being cradled in Draco Malfoy’s lap. The blonde was doing his best to help the other two, firing off spells when he could chance it but he couldn’t do much. Taking a closer look he was even more surprised to see Draco was crying.

“Why is he crying?” Harry asked sadly.

“Why don’t you go back and ask him yourself,” Salazar said.

“I…,” Harry looked back at the scene confused.

“He loves you, you know,” Godric said leaning over his shoulder.

“Godric!” Salazar yelled.

“What?” Godric asked pouting, “I was just pointing out the obvious.”

“That’s interfering and you know it,” Salazar hissed.

“So what, it’s about time someone gave the kid a break,” Godric sniffed turning his back on Salazar.

Looking at Harry he noticed that the raven-haired teenager looked stunned.

“Are you alright Harry?” Godric asked.

“He can’t. There’s no way,” Harry mumbled he sunk down to his knees and looked up at the two adults pleadingly, “Please stop lying to me. I can’t take much more.”

“Oh Harry,” Godric said kneeling to comfort the boy, “We aren’t lying, now chin up. Gryffindor’s don’t cry.”

“Oh what a load of croak, you ball like babies when you’re upset,” Salazar snorted.

“And the Slytherins’ turn into big cuddly teddy bears that’ll do anything to make sure their Gryffindor’s aren’t upset,” A female voice said as she appeared in the room.

Harry recognised her immediately.

“MUM!”

Harry was off the floor and into his mother’s arms before Godric could blink.

“Hello Harry dear,” Lily whispered holding him close.

“What are you doing here Lily?” Salazar asked.

“You were taking to long. I was sent to make sure everything was going smoothly,” Lily replied.

“Sorry,” Godric said, “It’s my fault. I said a few things I shouldn’t have.”

“He said that Dra… Malfoy love’s me,” Harry said, “He hates me, he’s said so, many times.”

“Harry dear sometimes people do silly things because they’re in love,” Lily explained softly, “Look I have to go. We’ll speak when Godric and Salazar have finished okay.”

Harry didn’t want to let go but nodded and backed away.

“Don’t take too much longer or his body might not be able to take him back,” Lily said placing a kiss on Harry’s head she disappeared.

Turning to the two adults he said, “What else do we have to do,”

“We’re supposed to give you helpful hints, tell you going back is for the best and so on and so forth,” Godric said, “But I think you’re ready to go back, you are going back aren’t you?”

Harry looked at his feet, “What will happen if I don’t?”

“We can’t tell you that Harry,” Godric said.

“Is it beneficial for others if I go back,” Harry asked.

“Yes,” Salazar replied, “That was very Slytherin of you.”

“The hat was undecided,” Harry said smiling, “Ok I’ll go back but if I live to regret it I’m coming after the both of you.”

A door appeared in one of the walls.

“Ok Harry through that door you’ll meet three people they’ll give you some advice and you’ll be able to ask a few questions,” Godric explained as he led Harry to the door, “Also I set you a challenge. Find my private rooms, in it you’ll find a lot of useful things to help you with that snake-faced runt.”

“Godric that’s my descendant you’re talking about,” Salazar chided, “And as evil as he may be this is how it’s supposed to play out. There needs to be balance you know that.”

“Oh that reminds me,” Harry said turning to Salazar, “I’m sorry about your basilisk. Why did you leave it down there anyway?”

“Godric and I had a fight. I left it down there to deal with the person responsible for our fight, I never went back so it stayed down there,” Salazar replied.

“He thought I was having an affair,” Godric whispered, “Which I would never do. I like my Slytherin.”

Harry grinned at the two before walking through the door. He’d taken about two steps when the floor disappeared and he fell.

“Bye Harry,” was the last thing he heard before darkness took over.

As he continued to fall he noticed that he was fast approaching a light beneath him.

Suddenly the light surged forward, blinding him.
