The True Heir of Dark
Chapter 1
Hermione found herself once more at 12 Grimmauld Place. Two days after Severus left her home, she had received a letter from Albus, ‘requesting’ she immediately join Harry and the Weasley family at the Order Headquarters.
“You all right Mione?” Harry asked as he joined her in the back yard.
“Yeah. Why do you ask?” Hermione replied.
“You just seemed sad when you arrived yesterday evening,” he answered.
“I just wish I could have said good-bye to my parents is all. They understand though,” she said.
“Can I ask you something?” he asked nervously.
“Of course you can,” she replied.
“There you two are! I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Ron cried out as he stepped out of the house.
Harry and Hermione shared an annoyed look as well as a look that said they would talk later, in private. Ron walked over and draped his arm around Hermione’s shoulder.
“Ron please,” Hermione groaned as she brushed his arm off.
“Well, mum said dinner’s ready,” Ron said, unfazed by Hermione’s reaction.
For the past year, Ron had been trying his hardest to get Hermione to go out with him. Of course, she was pretty sure that Albus was only encouraging his advances. Hermione and Harry followed Ron back into the house.
Dinner was a lively event. Tonks, Kingsley, and Remus were there as well. Remus and Sirius were regaling everyone with tales of when they were teenagers and the scrapes they had got into with James.
“So there James and I were, sitting in Albus’ office, covered head to toe in mud. Of course, being able to see the faces of the Slytherin Quidditch team drenched in mud as well, made it worth that week of detention we had to serve,” Sirius laughed.
Hermione laughed with everyone else. The whole time though, her thoughts dwelled on Severus. She was just glad that she had mastered Occlumency and Legilimency. That way her mind was protected from Dumbledore.
“You all right Hermione?” Remus asked.
“Huh? Yes, I just miss my parents. I didn’t get the chance to tell them bye before Professor Dumbledore called me here,” she answered.
“I’m sure Albus explained and they understood,” Sirius added.
Hermione simply smiled softly back at him, playing her part well. After dinner, Hermione and Harry quickly left the kitchen and headed for the attic. They locked and warded the door. Finally, they could talk freely.
“Okay, earlier you wanted to ask me something. What is it?” she asked as they sat on an old sofa.
“Yeah. Do you ever get the feeling that Dumbledore and the Order are trying to control us? Even down to whom we date?” he replied.
“Yeah I do,” she sighed.
“Then it’s not just my imagination. I notice how Ron has been trying to get you to go out with him,” he said.
“I don’t like Ron that way. Plus, I’m already seeing someone. That and I think that Dumbledore is using Ron to spy on you and me,” she replied with a sigh.
“I agree,” Harry said.
The two sat and talked a while longer before they exited the attic. Harry headed for his room, while Hermione retreated to the solitude of the library. She removed an old potions text and curled up in one of the armchairs.
‘I miss you so much Severus. I wish you were here,’ Hermione thought sadly.

Back at Hogwarts, Albus sat talking with Minerva and Remus, who had just arrived from headquarters. Remus sat in one of the armchairs as he waited for Albus to explain why he was there.
“Remus, on Saturday night, I will be leading a group of my most trusted Order members. I want you to join us,” Albus said.
“Of course Albus. What will we be doing?” Remus asked.
“We will be killing Hermione Granger’s parents and framing the Death Eaters for it,” Albus answered with an evil smile.
Remus was shocked, but kept his face neutral. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “I’m not sure I understand why Albus,”
“Because I need her. I fear she may be trying to rebel against me. I can’t and won’t lose her Remus. She needs to have nowhere to turn, but to the Order and me. This will ensure that,” Albus explained.
Remus just nodded. After Albus explained a few more details, Remus was dismissed. Instead of returning to headquarters, he went straight to the one person he knew he could trust.

“Severus!” Remus called out as he entered Severus’ home at Spinner’s end.
“Remus? What are you doing here?” Severus asked as he came downstairs.
“I just found out some disturbing news. I need your help. Please,” Remus answered.
“What do you mean?” Severus sighed as he sat in an armchair.
“Albus wants me to go with him and some others on Saturday night to kill Hermione’s parents and frame the Death Eaters,” Remus explained.
“Damn it! The old man has no idea what he’s doing! Why did you come to me?” Severus asked furiously.
“Look, I know who’s side you’re really on. I was hoping perhaps you could speak to Voldemort. Maybe, he could protect her parents,” Remus answered.
Severus got to his feet and walked to the window. Using wandless magic, he delved into Remus’ mind. He saw the werewolf was telling the truth. He let out a sigh and faced Remus once more.
“Remus, Miss Granger’s mother and father aren’t the most loving and trusting parents. Dumbledore has them so brainwashed that they are actually a threat to Miss Granger. Trust me, she won’t be too upset about their deaths,” Severus said.
“How do you know how Hermione feels?” Remus asked, as he caught whiff of two distinct scents on Severus. Severus’ scent and the faint scent of Hermione Granger.
“She confided in me when we were working on that research for Albus a year and a half ago,” Severus answered.
“Oh. Still, if Dumbledore is willing to kill her parents just to keep her around, who knows what else he’s willing to do. I also know he’s been telling Ron that he will have her as a girlfriend and later a wife, once this war is over,” Remus replied.
“What?” Severus asked in shock.
“That’s right. I overheard Molly, Arthur, Ron and Albus talking about it last night,” Remus answered.
“I see. I will go to Voldemort. Of course, I can’t guarantee anything,” Severus said.
“Just you speaking to Voldemort is enough for me. All I care about is her protection, and Harry’s too,” Remus replied.
“I will let you know what he says,” Severus said.
Remus nodded. Severus walked him to the door and watched until Remus apparated away. Severus hurried back inside, locked and warded the house, then apparated away. He reappeared a few seconds later in a majestic entryway. He headed down the hall and entered the library.

“Severus. What a surprise. Please, come in and have a seat,” Tom, also known as Lord Voldemort to his enemies, said.
Severus sat down heavily in the armchair across from Tom. Once seated, he immediately explained the reason for his visit.
“I don’t understand something, why protect her? She’s a friend of Harry’s isn’t she?” Tom questioned.
“Because…because I love her Tom. If Dumbledore ever found out, he would either send her away or kill her,” Severus answered.
Tom got to his feet and walked to the window. Severus sat nervously, waiting for Tom’s reaction. After a few moments, Tom spoke, “How much do you love her Severus?”
“I can’t live without her. She has brought hope back into my life,” Severus answered.
Tom turned and faced the younger wizard. Tom’s face broke out in a smile as he spoke,
“Finally! Here I thought you didn’t have a heart. Severus, if you love her and she loves you, perhaps she should meet me. Hermione Granger is the brightest student Hogwarts has probably ever seen. I’m sure she’s levelheaded enough to hear me out. Can you get her here before the attack is to take place?” Tom asked.
“I may be able to get her here tomorrow night,” Severus answered in relief.
“Very well. I will see you two tomorrow night,” Tom replied.
Severus got to his feet, nodded to Tom, and then returned to his home. Once back there, he sat at his desk and began writing a letter to Hermione.
************************************************************************
“Well, I’ll see you in the morning. Night,” Harry said as he stood up from the chair.
“Night Harry. Sweet dreams,” Hermione replied.
Harry had stopped in to check on her about fifteen minutes ago. Once alone, she let out a sigh as she began reading again. A few moments later, a raven flew into the library and landed in front of her.
“Hello Midnight,” Hermione said.
The raven brushed his head against her hand. Hermione and the bird had had a rocky start, but now they got along just fine. She removed the letter and opened it.
Hermione,
Meet me in the front entryway at midnight tomorrow
Hermione quickly wrote ‘yes’ on the parchment, and reattached it to Midnight’s leg. The raven affectionately nibbled her fingers before flying back out the window. She closed her book, turned out the light, and headed upstairs for bed.
