2. The Department of Mysteries
At the beginning of summer, Lucius had forced Draco to accompany him to the Ministry of Magic. Ever since Draco was five, he had gone with his father to the Ministry of Magic every now and then, but by the age of seventeen he had grown old of these visits.
His father had told him he “has to learn how to use his power” and that by watching him Draco would learn to use power to the fullest. Basically, this meant he was to learn how to bribe, black mail, and scare people. Draco never took a liking to this, but put on his mask and did everything like his father.
When Lucius and Draco had reached the Ministry of Magic, their presence was immediately known to all. No one dared to look them in the eye and some even quivered in fear.
Lucius had taught Draco at a young age the three four letter words that he was never to forget. The first being fear. Malfoy's do not fear anything, but they enforce it. The second was evil, which was pretty self explanatory. The last one was love. This lesson, Draco learned the hard why.
‘The only thing to really love is power Draco,’ Lucius had told him. ‘Women are just used to make sure the power is passed on to a next generation.’
As Lucius said this, Draco saw at Lucius’ feet was his mother, Narcissa Malfoy, unconscious. It took all of Draco’s strength to not run over to his mother and help her. Instead, he was forced to agree and wait helplessly for his father to leave.
Snapping back to reality, Draco realized that Lucius had left him to find his own ways of entertainment. After walking around aimlessly for half an hour, Draco found the door to the Department of Mysteries.
Draco remembered this door. Every time he came to the Ministry, this door was heavily guarded. No one ever stood in front of it, but you could feel the magic surrounding the door, the ancients spells used to forbid trespassers. He always wondered how Potter got passed it back in fifth year.
As Draco got closer to the door, he could tell that this time was different. When he felt no magic surrounding the door, he lightly touched it. When nothing happened, curiosity got the best of him and he entered the room.
There were endless rows of orbs stack shelves. Under each orb he saw names and he remembered that each of these orbs held a prophecy. Some of the names he knew and others he didn’t. Finally, he approached one with his. He was shocked that there was a prophecy about him, but what shocked him more was the name under it. He broke the orb to hear what it had to say.
Two shall come,
From two different worlds.
The boy is pure of blood,
While the girl pure of heart.
Though both are powerful,
Together they are more.
The lion’s intelligence and eagerness
Will break the dragon reigns,
And the dragon will be free.
Together they will bring an end
And help the boy-who-lived.
Luckily for Draco, he knew exactly what this prophecy meant. Someone will help him be free from his father and together they will help Harry Potter, and that someone is Hermione Granger.
