Chapter 2

The day dawned bright and early, and outside the birds were chirping. Harry rolled over, and groaned as the sunlight filtered in through the eastern facing window and stabbed him violently in the eyes. Blinking away the remnants of a strange dream, Harry kicked his blankets to the foot of his bed, and stood up. Stretching, he realized that the dorm was so quiet not because his room-mates were still sleeping, as he'd assumed at first, but because they'd gotten up before him and left him there.

"Bloody wankers," he muttered, and looked at the small owl-shaped clock Ginny had given him for Christmas. "Damn!" The owl happily informed him that it was eleven fourty five in the morning, cooing softly. When Harry had asked Ginny about the cooing, all she'd said was that she never claimed to be any good with charms, but it made the clock unique. After all, no one else had a cooing owl for a clock, and Harry had thought himself very much in love with her at the time, and couldn't argue.

Ripping off his pajama pants, he struggled into the cleanest pair of jeans he could find with minimal effort, and tugged on a muggle-teeshirt he'd bought on a shopping trip with Hermione, Ron, and Ginny in Muggle London. It said "My Chemical Romance" on it in neat red letters, under a picture of a bloodied couple about to kiss. He'd bought it because Hermione and Ginny insisted that it looked good on him, and Ginny even backed it up with the statement that, 'the band was good, for a muggle group.'

Following the familiar path down to the Great Hall, he stopped suddenly, and glowered. Coming the other way was Draco Malfoy.
