Shadows

Chapter One: Life's but a walking shadow; a poor player, That struts and frets his hour upon the stage. :Shakespeare, Macbeth

Demon red eyes flashed venomously at the milling throng. One singled out lay on the ground before him, curled into a foetal ball. Black cape shroud hugging its body, white mask lying at its feet motionless, lifeless like a discarded question mark.

“Let this be a WARNING to YOU ALL, betray me at YOUR PERIL” howled the creature **He has served me well enough in the past, a good and loyal puppet. All this time he thought he was serving Dumbledore. Ha ! Fool ! I am not so easily deceived. Still Severus you had your moments, but they like you are empty and long gone.** “Nemo me impune lacessit” **Now the cold earth will embrace your twisted soul and victory shall be my bedfellow**

A cold breeze dared to insult the silence, toying with the hoods and hems of the carbon copy minions. None dared to move. Their Lords current frame of mind made even breathing dicier than usual. Casually Voldemort bent down to the communal centrepiece so that his foul breath danced across the Potion Masters face, and cupped his chin in one taloned hand.

Gazing intently into the glazed obsidian eyes that no longer focused, he lent forward and kissed the lifeless lips. Gently, almost reverently he closed the vacant eyes. “Aeternum vale” he whispered. Abruptly Voldemort straightened up allowing the head unsupported to fall back to the blood stained ground.

“VICTORY THY NAME IS VOLDEMORT” He cackled to the faithful. Punctuating each syllable with malicious kicks to the catatonic body “BEGONE and throw out the rubbish” He snarled, pointing at the prone form. Turning away in dismissal.

**This shall be a grand day indeed. When the carcass is found they shall know themselves to be without eyes and ears. I will truly have the element of surprise, this time and forever** “Ask for him tomorrow and you shall find him a grave man” He sniggered, the sound particularly disconcerting in the chastised silence.

Across the miles, cosseted in a warm bed safe within the bastions of Hogwarts, a young man was privy to the said same scene and woke screaming in the dark of night. Painfully clasping his head in clammy hands. Blood oozed between his fingers.
