Author’s Note: Snape will appear out of character a little in the early parts of this story. I am working to the theory that his character were formed by the severe bullying he sustained at Hogwarts and events in the service for Voldemort. Promise though, as this story goes on the sadistic, sharp Slytherin will surface again. Sirius just has to figure out something first and of course, Remus has to appear. Promise his appearance will set things on a more normal level for them. Snape can’t be too soft and romantic for too long!

Chapter Two: A Strange New World

How could a Gryffindor turn out to be such a coward? It was this thought Sirius was completing as he stirred his soup around the bowl, miserably. It was lunchtime now on the day he had woken up in a world turned upside down from his own. It was a confusing place, where life was better in a lot of ways and definitely a hell of a lot worse in others. Stirring the chicken broth for the sixty-millionth time, Sirius thought again over the events of the morning…

After the mirror incident, he had fully intended to give Snape a piece of his mind. May be hexing the bugger to prove the point. Good intentions that never came to flower. Sirius had opened his mouth to say, “Now look here, Snape!” But the Potions Master had pushed himself off the door lintel and moved to stand direct in front of Sirius and did something that had mentally scarred him for life, Sirius was sure!

Snape had across the distance between them with dark concerned eyes studying his lover, then stopped directly in front of Sirius. Sirius was forced to look up at the taller Slytherin, that’s when the soul-scarring event took place. Long-fingered hands reached out and drew him into the warm embrace of the man he was supposed to hate. Every nerve in his body screamed out in terror, Sirius struggled for a moment but gave in as he realised the other man was too strong.

“I HATE YOU.” Sirius gritted out through clenched teeth, as he settled against Snape’s terry cloth dressing gown, enjoying the softness of the material. And though he would never confess it even under torture, he enjoyed the comfort the hug offered too.

“This dream,” Snape murmured softly, “it must have been severely realistic to have you so worked up.”

Sirius blinked. He raised his head to look Snape in the eye again. He felt an inkling of regret for the older Slytherin. Regret which soon turned to anger. As he looked up at Snape, Sirius had placed himself in the right position to be taken advantages of. A twitch of a smile touched Snape’s lips, as he slowly closed the distance between him and Sirius.

“Remember Sirius,” Snape whispered as he leant in and captured Sirius in a kiss.

REMEMBER! Hell he would remember that for the rest of his life, Sirius thought gloomy. Snape had quickly taken advantage of the situation. The kiss had been devastatingly good; he knew that from his own experience. Snape’s clever kiss drove all other thoughts out of his head as he surrendered to warm lips seducing his into a passion driven kiss. It only ended when the burning need for oxygen parted them.

Pulling himself out of Snape’s arms, he stared up at the Potions Master confused as a million thoughts and emotions ran through his mind.

“Sirius…” Snape began. “Oh bloody hell!”

Sirius followed Snape’s gaze to the clock in the hallway that read quarter to eight.

“I must depart,” Snape growled disappointedly. “Dunderheads to teach and my first classes are in just over an hour. We shall continue this later.”

Turning on his heel, Snape hurried out of sight back into the bedroom they had woken up in. He left Sirius leant against the hallway wall fingers touching his bruised lips in disbelief. They were proof that the unbelievable had just happened.

SNAPE HAD KISSED HIM!

A kiss that was devastating…

A kiss, he had enjoyed!

A kiss that stirred feelings in other parts of his body.

“Oh God…” Sirius gulped mentally.

The Potions Master appeared five minutes dresses in his normal black-buttoned robes that he was infamous for. Obviously, fashion taste did not vary too much from reality to reality. Perhaps a dressed Snape would be easier to talk too.

Snape paused in front of Sirius for a moment. “Try putting last night out of your mind; remember, James and Harry are due here at ten. Try not to burn the house down, when you fry the bacon this time.”

With a smile, Snape dropped a kiss on Sirius forehead. Before pulling out his wand and Disapparated with a crack. Glad to be rid of Snape, Sirius pushed himself off the wall. Staring at the space in which Snape had vanished, he wondered what had happened to his parents’ security spells. Glancing down at his attire, he decided to get dressed before wandering down stairs, for he couldn’t be sure who next he was going to bump into. He didn’t really want Molly Weasley just to see him in a pair of black boxers.

The last time he had opened his wardrobe, moths had flown out of it. Nothing much had survived his stay in prison. Even his favourite comfy jeans had vanished. He was amazed to find them hanging up, neatly pressed amongst his other clothes. Pulling them on, Sirius smiled and spun round feeling something in the depths of his heart. An emotion that he could not describe; he could associate the feeling though. It was like seeing Zonko’s or the trays upon trays of sweets and other delights in the Honeydukes's in Hogsmeade. His heart leapt.

Over the jeans, he pulled a simple black T-shirt that had a silver motif across one shoulder and on one corner at the hem of the shirt. Brushing back his hair with one hand, he crossed the hallway to study himself again in the mirror. He barely looked the thirty-eight years, he should be. Twenty-eight was a more accurate assumption to make on his reflection. It felt so good to see the real Sirius inside instead of the reflection that had stared back at him after Azkaban.

Two hours passed very quickly. Sirius spent an hour exploring the upstairs of the house that had never been his true home, like it appeared to be now. There were three other bedrooms beside his and the two smaller rooms served as offices, one for his use and the other he was a little confused about. It seemed both Snape and Remus had documents belonging to them stored there. The attic was the most changed. At some point it has been transformed into an apartment. Moony’s apartment, he discovered when picking the lock.

It made him smile; Moony had lived a tough life after Hogwarts in his reality. Sirius had often let him stay in his spare room in his small flat or Prong’s had insisted on Remus staying with Lily and him.

Laws regarding werewolves owning property and Remus’s disorder preventing him from holding down a job had caused the wolf a lot of heartache and stress. In this place, Remus had been given a break it seemed. But what confused him was surely Remus’s presence bothered Snape. So why did the bloody great bat still hang around his bedroom? Unless…

Sirius stepped back from the apartments front door and locked it with a simple wave of his hand. His brow frowned as he stared at the red door and gold fixtures. Had the whomping willow incident ever occurred in this place?

It was when this thought crossed his mind, a familiar voice called out down below him. A voice that Sirius had believed he would never hear again in his lifetime.

“Sirius?” James Potter called out two floors below him. “Padfoot, where are you hiding?”

Sighing, Sirius pushed the bowl of soup away. Breakfast had been everything he imagined a normal existence would have been without Voldemort. Smiles, laughter and happiness shared over bacon butties and chatter about everything. There had been the odd awkward moments; they had sparked warning bells in Prong’s head. James Potter was a keen observer always had been. He knew his best friend well enough that something was eating Sirius, the man he had known for more than a quarter of his life was very different today. Harry had blissfully carried most of the conversation with talk of his future career plans, about the new girl he had started dating and quizzing his godfather on ideas for birthday presents for a book-worm friend of his. Time passed quickly and Harry had to rush off to meet his
Before leaving, the other marauder cornered him.

“You’re out of sorts today, Padfoot. Something bothering you?” Prongs asked causally.

“Yes… I mean no.”

“Well, which is it?”

“You won’t believe me.” Sirius sighed raising from his seat.

James’s arm snatched out and caught his elbow. He turned to stare at his friend who studied him closely. “Sirius, you know I love you like a brother. Even through the tough times, like when you started seeing Snape, I stuck by you. Why would I turn away from you know?”

“Even if I said that this reality isn’t mine?”

“Yes, Sirius. Even if you said that.”
