Chapter 2.
When they reached Hogsmeade they reluctantly let go of each other. It would be unwise to let everybody watch them. Even though they both felt like grabbing the others hand and holding on for dear life they realized it would be rather risky. Instead they kept close when nobody was looking at them.
First stop was Flourish and Blott's. Draco practically dragged Harry there. He went straight for a certain shelf. Harry always got lost in there so he just quickly followed. Draco scanned the shelf hungrily and actually whooped when he found what he was looking for.
Apparently he was almost as big a book lover as Hermione. But somehow the enthusiasm Harry mostly considered an exhausting and annoying trait in Hermione, made Draco seem even cuter. Funny that. He couldn't help the goofy smile gracing his lips, when he looked at Draco excitingly telling him about the book. The smile disappeared when Draco poked him hard in the chest;
- "Oi! Why'd you do that for?"
- "You weren't listening!" Draco crossed his arms over his chest, looking very offended. Harry took a quick look around, and seeing that nobody was nearby, he leaned close and whispered in Draco's ear;
- "You looked so cute. I couldn't concentrate." He placed a gentle kiss on the soft cheek of the now speechless boy. "Sorry?"
Draco wasn't upset anymore. Instead a becoming blush swept over his face. He had not expected Harry to say that;
- "Oh...well." Harry's devouring gaze made him turn his head down in embarrassment.
When Harry lifted his chin, he looked him straight in the eye, with big and insecure eyes. He didn’t know how to react to anybody looking at him like he was good enough to eat. That was normally not a good sign. But everything was different with Harry. That confused look completely melted Harry’s heart and with a sound which was a mixture of a groan and a chuckle he leaned in and captured Draco’s lips in a loving kiss. Draco put his arms around Harry’s neck and kissed back with all he could muster. They jumped apart when they heard footsteps coming in their direction.
Hermione couldn’t help laughing when she walked around a corner and came upon Draco and Harry looking flushed and flustered with guilt in their eyes, both panting like they had run a marathon. But she did find it absolutely endearing the way Harry had stepped in front of Draco and fisted his hands threatening before he even knew who was coming. He visibly relaxed when he saw her, and she smiled at him;
- “Hello. I didn’t think I’d find you in the bookstore. I guess it must be your influence, Mr. Malfoy. Congratulations. You managed what I’ve tried for years.”
Draco was a bit confused when she spoke to him, but he remembered what Harry had said, and her smile seemed genuine;
- “Please, call me Draco. I don’t think you could say that I did, because he didn’t appear to hear a single word I said about this fantastic book.”
That had been the right thing to do; show Hermione a book. Soon they were discussing the book and, it seemed to Harry, agreeing that it was wonderful. After a very short while he was bored and feeling neglected. He cleared his throat and they both looked at him as if they had forgotten he was even there. But Hermione took the hint and begged off, explaining that Ron was outside waiting.
When they were once again alone Draco smiled at Harry and offered that they could leave now. He just had to pay for the book. The line was rather long and since Harry had to go into the quidditch shop next door to buy a pair of new gloves, they decided to meet outside.
Unfortunately the queue in there was just as long. Even though he quickly managed to find the wanted gloves, the line was endless and unbelievably slow. He had a hard time not hexing the poor saleswoman behind the desk who was obviously new. He didn't want Draco to have to wait for him. When he was finally able to pay and get out of the shop he spotted Draco immediately in front of the book store. He was sitting on a bench, reading and looking like he had completely forgotten where he was. He didn't see Harry until he was right next to him, which caused him to jump up, startled. When he realized that it was only Harry he looked rather embarrassed, so Harry decided to let it slide.
They continued down to Honeydukes where they were both relieved to see that it was almost empty. They took their time strolling through the shop, and while Draco was talking engagingly with one of the salesmen about something or other Harry managed to purchase an item without Draco found out, and he quickly hid it in his pocket.
When they left Harry remembered a little hidden-away alley which the Weasley twins once showed him and told him it was great for snogging. If he ever needed a place great for snogging, now would be it. He could hardly contain his excitement. He practically dragged Draco along. Draco wondered about Harry’s queer behavior but laughed nonetheless;
- “Wherever are you taking me Harry? “ Harry smiled at him and proudly showed him the quiet cozy corner he had found. Draco just looked at him wonderingly and Harry had to explain;
- “It’s a place Fred and George showed. Great for snogging they said” He beamed at Draco, who in turn looked incredulously at him;
- “Why would they tell you that?”
- “Well, at that time I dated Ginny.”
Harry missed the swift look of jealousy that swept over Draco’s beautiful features and it disappeared quickly enough when Harry reached out for him, grasped him firmly in his arms and promptly pressed his soft lips against his. He melted against him and all thoughts of any Weasley left him and the only thought running through his head was;
- “Why does this always happen in public?” Unfortunately they didn’t make it as far as they had at the lake, because they suddenly were interrupted by a very unwelcome scream. They turned their heads just in time to see Ginny Weasley fall backwards and be caught by Dean Thomas who looked as if he didn’t knew what to make of what he saw.
Harry and Draco looked sheepishly at them and didn’t seem to realize that they still stood with their arms locked around each other. Ginny who had finally composed herself looked questioningly at them;
- “Harry? Malfoy?” Harry opened his mouth to answer when she let out a roar of laughter. The three boys looked at each other alarmed. Neither of them would know what to do if she lost it. Harry was starting to get seriously nervous when she managed to choke out;
- “That explains it.” And even though it was followed by another stream of laughter Harry thought it sounded mostly intelligible and he started to get a bit offended;
- “Do you care to explain why you’re standing there laughing at us?” He managed to get across that she wasn’t very popular and she sobered a bit and tried to explain;
- “It’s just that, well, if you’re gay that explains why you didn’t want to date me. I just thought you needed an extra push, but obviously you needed something completely different.” After that she burst out in another laughing fit.
Harry was still rather miffed that she was laughing like a madman just by seeing them kissing and asked her in the same tone;
- “How come you’re here? How did you know about this place?” She finally calmed and explained that the twins had told her about it. It made sense and when she open-mindedly suggested that they all stayed and just kept to different corners he couldn’t stop a small laugh escaping him.
He looked down at Draco and was surprised to see a look of confusion and, it seemed, terror on his face. He gently nudged the other boy’s cheek with his nose and whispered;
- “Hey, what’s wrong?” Draco looked up at him and seemed to be shaken out of his thoughts. He smiled at Harry and reassured him with a small peck on the cheek;
- “I’m fine. I just got an idea about what lies ahead. And I’m a bit scared.”
- “Don’t worry. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. And look at them,” He pointed at Ginny and Dean who were now standing in the other corner, kissing passionately. “They don’t seem to mind too much.” He chuckled and placed several light kisses on Draco’s nose and cheeks before reaching his mouth and tried to resume the heavy kissing from earlier. But after just a couple of seconds Draco ended it and sighed heavily;
- “I can’t.” He said apologetically and hinted at Dean and Ginny with his head. He looked at Harry searchingly and was relieved when Harry’s answer was a small giggle and a;
- “I understand. Let’s go.”
They left with an encouraging shout to the others and a wave. There was a bit of an awkward silence and Harry could tell that Draco was a bit embarrassed. He tried to lighten the mood and said;
- “Well, I don‘t know about you, but I could certainly use a butterbeer by know.” Draco latched unto an excuse to talk about something else;
- “Yeah, me too.”
They quickly walked into the Three Broomsticks and upon placing their orders at the bar continued to find a free table. Once they got seated Harry could see that Draco still felt slightly bad and he decided to lighten the mood. He took out the small item in his pocket and silently thanked Honeydukes for the non-melting charm on their products. He grabbed Draco’s hand under the table and Draco, who had had his eyes trained on the table, lifted his face to look at Harry and he melted completely at the adoring look in Harry’s eyes. Harry whispered;
- “I have something for you.”
When Draco looked at him curiously he placed the small heart-shaped box on the table in front of Draco. It was bright red and on top was written in black letters ”I Think You Are Cute” Harry blushed and stuttered;
- “I know it’s a bit sappy, but I just thought...well...I mean...I think you are cute. And...and I...ehm...well.” He averted his eyes, but relaxed when Draco whispered;
- “I love it.” Harry looked at him and after a short while said;
- “Well...aren’t you going to open it?”
Draco who had thought the box was the present curiously opened it and was awed when he saw the very small chocolate hearts in both dark and milk chocolate with the writing on top in white chocolate. He picked one up and when looking closer he realized that it said “H+D” on some of them and “D+H” on the rest. His heart felt like it was swelling. He looked at Harry with unadulterated adoration and popped one of the little chocolates in his mouth. The taste was incredible and it went straight for his groin. Apparently it had some magical side effects which he didn‘t mind much. The powerful aromatic flavor was sparkling in his mouth and he couldn’t stop a small moan of appreciation leaving him.
He opened his eyes to stare into Harry’s big eyes practically devouring him. He picked another chocolate up and held it to Harry’s lips in a silent offering. Harry opened his mouth and Draco placed the chocolate on his tongue. Harry closed his mouth around Draco’s fingers and sucked them provocatively while tasting the chocolate. Now it was Draco’s turn to blush. When Harry finally released the now soaked fingers they looked each other in the eye and, both sporting a healthy erection partly due to the chocolate, couldn’t stop the kiss that was coming. Their hands were clutching under the table and their mouths were locked in a tender kiss.
When they finally broke apart, they were shocked to see two butterbeers on the table. Harry whipped his head around to look at the bar and he caught Madam Rosmerta's eyes and she had the audacity to wink at him. He quickly looked around the cafe. Some quickly averted their eyes but most seemed to have not even noticed it. Nobody was openly staring at them. Draco groaned in embarrassment, but still felt like he could fly without the aid of a broom. Harry cleared his throat and picked the bottle up;
- “Well, cheers.” A nervous laughter left him and he took a big swig of the beer. So much for keeping a low profile. At least none of their class mates were there. They stayed and enjoyed the beer before continuing. And even though they felt a bit public they couldn't help the hot looks shooting across the table and the smouldering gazes. One thought flitted through both their heads;
- "Why does this always happen in public?"
