Chapter 1
NO MORE PAIN
Chapter 1
For the whole week that Harry stayed with the Dursleys after his return from Diagon Alley, he was ignored all the time. It was like he did not exist in the household at all. They were afraid to what Harry could do knowing that he finally discovered that he has the power to do magic. The last thing they wanted to happen was a repeat performance of what happened to Dudley.
Harry was left alone with his own devices. The only person he got to talk to was the diary that apparently replies back. The diary was actually previously owned by one Tom Riddle who was a previous student in Hogwarts. It made Harry bubble with excitement because he could ask any question he wanted to know about Hogwarts and the Wizarding World. Tom Riddle never failed to entertain young Harry Potter since he himself was entertained with Harry Potter. Why? That is still an important question that has no answer yet.
I am sick of this place. Harry writes down while huddled in his cupboard.
Why? Are the muggles treating you badly? Words appeared magically.
They are the most despicable muggles alive. I’ve been with them since I was 1 year old and I never felt part of this household. They shout at me. They slave me to death to do all their chores. They do not feed me. They do not cloth me. They do not even bring to the doctor when I got sick with the flu! They are the worst people in the world.
Why don’t you just leave them? Asked Tom.
I don’t know where to go. I have no one out there. And Hagrid told me to stay here and just go to King’s Cross on September 1.
Do you still want to stay here with your relatives?
No. Harry answered after a few minutes of thinking.
I think I can help you get out of this place. We can stay in one of the houses I lived in before. Words from Tom appeared on the pages.
Really? That would be great! But, how? You are a book.
You always state the obvious, Harry, but you are right, what can a book do? So, I need to get my body back.
How is that possible, Tom?
I need to borrow some energy to be able to get a corporeal form. That way, I can help you escape this house.
So you’re gonna get energy from me?
No. I need you to be awake. I was thinking of getting it from your cousin Dudley. For sure he does not need energy at all with him being lazy as hell.
Yes, that is a good idea! Maybe tomorrow, we can plan it out. I am sleepy already and I have to wake up tomorrow to fix their breakfast.
Sleep tight, my dear Harry. Tomorrow, we’ll be free.
Next day, Harry woke up before the sun even rose up. He was already accustomed to waking up really early so he can prepare breakfast for his relatives. He grabbed Tom’s diary and put it in the back pocket of his loose pants hoping he could get talk to Tom while doing his chores. He exited his cupboard – his home since forever – and headed to the kitchen seeing that it was still clean with no trace of life. “It’s another day.” Harry sighed.
After an hour of making the breakfast for the family which consisted, he sat on the dining table and stared at what he cooked up. Hotdogs, omelettes, French toasts, and baked potatoes were placed on the table. Most of them will be consumed by his Uncle Vernon and Dudley. If he was lucky, they’ll set aside some scraps for him.
He brought out Tom’s diary and started to write. Good morning, Tom.
Good morning, Harry. You finished your chores already?
Yes. I made their breakfast already. I am just waiting for them to come downstairs and eat so I can clean up afterwards.
That is great, Harry. I promise you that it will be the last time. After this day, you will be free. You won’t need to serve these muggles again.
I really hope that will happen. I hate it here. Hagrid said that I was placed here to be safe but I do not feel safe at all. I think it’s the most dangerous place in the world.
Even the best wizards can be wrong, Harry. No one is perfect.
I know. For the plan, how will you get energy from Dudley?
He just needs to use me. I’ll do the rest.
I don’t know how I will do that since they are not talking to me.
Find a way, Harry. This is for our freedom.
Harry sat thinking how he can hand the diary to Dudley without making them suspicious that he was trying something. He was running scenarios in his mind when he heard the creaks in the stairs. They’re coming.
Harry stood up and fixed the chair where he sat. Moments later, Dudley and Petunia walked in. “Good morning Aunt Petunia, Dudley.” Harry said softly.
No response but just suspicious looks. Dudley sat on his chair and began piling food on his plate. On the other hand, Harry stood in a corner just looking at them. He rolled Tom’s diary and placed it in his back pocket.
“What’s that?” Dudley asked Harry pointing at him.
“What?” Harry asked back.
“The thing you placed in your back pocket. I want to see it.” Dudley demanded.
“It’s just a notebook that I use.” Harry said pulling it out from his pocket and showing it to Dudley.
“I want it.” Dudley said with a glimmer of malice.
“I need it Dudley. It’s my only notebook.”
“Mum! I want that notebook!” Dudley wailed.
“Come on Dudekins, surely you don’t want something from this freak.”
“Mum! I want it! I want it!”
“Harry, can you just give it to him and end this madness?”
“But Aunt Petunia—”
“Give it now before Vernon comes down and things will get worse.”
Harry reluctantly gave the notebook to Dudley who was sneering at him. He tried to look as dejected to ensure that they wouldn’t guess that it was what he wanted to happen. Dudley opened the notebook and skimmed through the pages. “More pages to draw in! I love you Mum.”
“Anything for my Dudekins.”
The rest of the morning passed by with no problems. Vernon arrived shortly and practically ignored him. Once they were finished they stood up and left the mess; it was already his turn. The three ate up all the food that he cooked leaving him with no breakfast. His stomach could only grumble while he cleaned up the mess.
After his kitchen chores, he proceeded in cleaning up the rooms and bathroom upstairs, throw out the garbage and remove the weeds from the garden. When he finished all his chores, it was already 2:00 in the afternoon. He walked to the kitchen hoping he could get something to eat. All was left on the table was a sandwich with cheese left by his aunt. That was lunch.
He took the sandwich and walked inside his cupboard to finally rest his tired body. Afterall, it was all part of the job. Minutes, turned into hours, and he realized that has already read all the books that he bought with Hagrid.
A part of Harry was hoping that Tom will just open the door and usher him out of his cupboard. In his excitement, he already packed up most of his things in the trunk that he got. If Tom would come, he would just pull It out he could go.
Night fell and still nothing. Harry walked out of his cupboard and walked to the kitchen seeing his Aunt Petunia preparing dinner. He noticed that it was less to what she usually makes. “Uncle Vernon won’t eat dinner here, Aunt Petunia?”
“It’s none of your business, but since you are a little nosy freak, Dudley won’t eat here tonight because he’s staying over at Robby’s for tonight.” Petunia told Harry, which made him a bit disappointed. Maybe Tom has deserted him as well. Just like everyone else.
