Ending One

Remus's eyes slowly opened as he barely registered the voice shouting frantically at him.

“Wake up, Remus! Tonks needs you!” He heard the voice say again. He groaned as he tried to sit up, the pain in his temple making him cry out.

“Harry?” Remus moaned out. “Stop the yelling, it's making my head feel worse.” He felt a small vial next to his lips, and Harry held his head while he drank it. “Thank you. What's wrong with Tonks?” He asked, pushing his pain to the back of his mind in worry over his wife.

“She's in early labor-- you're about to be a father!” Harry announced to the shocked werewolf. He held tight to Remus as he side-along apparated them to Hogwarts' gates. With a flick of his wand he had them unwarded, and they entered. He rewarded them with haste and he dragged the still injured Remus to the castle.

“She's okay, you think?” Remus asked, happy to see that the decorations had been restored to the red, green, yellow and blue of all the Houses.

“Witches have babies all the time, she'll do fine. I remember when Ginny had our first. It's definitely something you should not miss. It's a miracle.” Harry smiled in the memory. “Tonks will kill you herself if you aren't there though.”

They made their way to the school's infirmary, Remus leaning on Harry's arm for support. His head still hurt, and his leg pained him from where he had landed heavily on it. He thanked the Gods for this pain, making him feel alive and grateful for the life he had.

Harry held the door open for him as the entered the infirmary. They could hear Tonks' cries and moans and Remus ran to her side.

“You made it.” Ginny said, looking up from the side of the bed where she held Tonks' hand and smiled at Remus. He nodded at her as he took her place and she went to stand at the doorway with Harry.

“Hello, Nymphadora.” He smiled at her with love, his hand gently caressing her hair from her sweaty face.

“I told you,” She grunted with the force of a contraction. “Never to call me that. You did this to me, you-- ugh.”

“I love you too, sweetheart.” Remus bent to kiss her forehead. “Happy Christmas, darling.”

“You are never touching me again.” She shouted out, pushing down as her body made to expel their child. “Never, you hear me?”

“Yes, love.” He whispered with a smile, she was so beautiful in eyes.

“Never!” She screamed out as a baby's cry was heard.

Poppy brought forth a squalling, screaming red-faced baby wrapped in a blue blanket. His legs kicked and his fists brawled at the air as he cried out his anger at being removed from his safe warm cocoon. She placed the bundle into Tonks' arms and stepped back, letting the small family get to know each other.

“It's wonderful, isn't it? A new life on Christmas day.” Ginny said to Harry.

“No ideas, Ginny. I think the three have is enough.” He laughed at her expression, and ducked the hand she playfully swatted at his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her and whispered, “Okay, maybe one more.”

Ginny giggled then asked, “So, what are you two going to name him?”

“His name is Albus James Sirius Lupin. For three of the most important men to influence my life.” Remus grinned, his hand lightly touching his son's now happy face as he suckled from his mum. “If that's all right with you, dear?”

“I think it's fitting,” Tonks tiredly answered, a small yawn forming. He brushed her hair back again and kissed her forehead.

“You have made this the best Christmas ever.” He said, drawing his jacket off to lay on a chair. A gaily wrapped box dropping from it's pocket. He bent down and picked it up.

“To Remus, from Albus.” He read out, amazed by it. The others looked at him in surprise.

“Open it, Remus.” Tonks said.

Remus pulled the ribbon off and ripped the paper, a small note dropping out. Inside the box was the small ring he had looked at in the window. “I think this is really meant for you, Tonks.” He smiled as he slipped it on her finger.

“One day over the rainbow we shall meet again, but for now I leave you with this gift. And yes always remember: It is a Wonderful Life, Remus Lupin. Your old friend, Albus Dumbledore,” Remus read out loud.
